Vulture Gizzard (2)

Description

These wastelands are riddled with redstone basilisk, <name>. These basilisk have adapted and flourished, more so than any of the other wildlife within the region.

I have watched from afar as they hunt and go about their daily activities - the beasts exhibit a thought process more complex than even some humanoids.

I must study their brains!

Retrieve ten of their brains for me, <name>. The compound cannot be complete, however, without two vulture gizzards to form the base of the solution.

This is one of a group of quests you can get from two druids at a campfire just inside the border of the Blasted Lands. They are not difficult but I had a few problems:

- You need to kill a few boars, a few Snickerfangs, a lot of basilisks, some vultures and (in my case) a whole bunch of scorpions. The boars were easy, but the drop rate on the others is about 6 to 1 or higher. I never was able to get any of the scorpions to drop anything and only completed one quest because someone else had spares. She was having no problem with the scorpions but hadn't been able to get anything from the vultures.

- In the beginning (the first day), all animals but the scorpions dropped lots of junk which was nonetheless worth 3-15S at the vendor in the Keep. But there was a lot of junk, so be prepared with at least one empty 12-slot bag or you'll be commuting to the vendor every ten minutes.&nbsp Later on (the second day), most of the animals started dropping nothing. That's right - nothing niente, nada. My 47 Druid is a skinner, so it was not a total loss but those with other trades better be prepared to be disappointed.

- The second day, the basilisks (there were initially about 9-10), which had been respawning almost faster than you would like (on top of you, for example), slowed down and then stopped. When you need 60 to get 10 quest items, this is a problem. When I left (I fortunately got my last quest item from the last basilisk), there were none left and none had respawned. A glitch? Maybe. Overfishing? Maybe, but I almost didn't get that quest done after 2 days.

- The boars, snickerfangs, basilisks and vultures are 47-49. The scorpions are 50-52. For my 47 Druid, the scorpions were not difficult (druids can regenerate health of course) but certainly time-consuming, taking about 2-3 times as long to kill. Then they would drop nothing. Again and again. The only consolation was the scorpid scale, but if you're not a skinner, get ready for a plateful of frustration.

The rewards are approximately 4400XP (not bad) and a few buffs. I abandoned two of the four quests when I just couldn't face another scorpion with no quest item.

These are not awful quests but pack a bag and be prepared to spend the weekend with these mobs.

It took me 4-5 hours to do all 5 of these quests, about an hour of that was trying to get the last few brains.
You can find 1-2 lvl52's around 48,50 and 1-4 lvl47/8's around 60,28.
All together i made over 10g in vendor trash, found 2 greens, skinned a few stacks of leather, and found 4 imperfect draenethyst fragments, which got me 4 nice greens too.
+With all five quests and the fragment hand in got around 30k XP and i worked of 3/4 of a weeks worth of 200%xp.
Not bad really.

Edit:Unless you want more of the potions, don't bother doing the quests you get after.Even though the quests have a different name they are essentially repeat quests and give no xp.just the potions.

you can't carry more than one of the same potions at once and you also get no xp or rep from repeating any of the quests. Recommended you do them all once though, although it does take some time, you get 4700 xp each.

I'm not completely sure, but I believe that the Basilisks and Boars have interchanging spawns. That is, if a Basilisk OR Boar is killed, then there's a chance that either of the two will spawn in its place. So if you're having trouble finding basilisks (like me), then kill some boars and hope that basilisks will spawn.

EDIT: Yes, I'm damn sure that some of them have interchanging spawns, so make sure to kill some boars too!

The Basilisk are few and far between and the freakin drop rate is terrible.

quest repeatable. can only have 1 of each potion at a time since it says "unique". the basilisk brains drop rate were awful to me. took me at least 1hour only in the basilisks. scorps drop rate was pretty high, around 85%.

i got a 100% drop rate, but it took a while because the basilisks are spread out and hard to find also the boars and the basilisks do have interchanging spawns so u just have to be patient and wait for them. the vultures are also around there the lvls are about 47-49

I have to say the quest is annoying and does take a day, if not two.
But in my case, the quest isn't too bad. A lot of work, yes, since its asking for a lot and the drop rates aren't too well. I managed to complete 3 of 5 quests in no time, with both my chars. The problem with me lies within buzzard gizzards, and basilisk brains. Those brains hardly ever seem to drop. Been on this quest for around 1-2 hours and yet I only have 2 gizzards left and 1 brain left. Annoying, but if you're prepared to work for it - good. The xp is quite good, and some of the potions might be very handy in instances =)

These quests are not that great if you are trying to level off of questing.&nbsp They take a long time and you need a lot of bag space to hold everything that drops.&nbsp Just return and farm for the Mats when you're 60.&nbsp If you get a lot of Brains and gizzards, then you can just farm once or twice and just come back and turn them in later when you need more.

on these quests the basilisk brains and vulture gizzards are the rarest drops, everything else isn't that bad.&nbsp be prepared to spend some time killing these things, but i suggest doing it, becuase even at lvl 53 im getting good XP from all of it.

The Vulture Gizzard's are extremely rare. Only about 10-15 birds spawn in the entire area, that plus the area is crowded. Droprate is said to be 30%. Mine was alot lower, possible 10% droprate. Skip the two quests involving these, if you not plan to grind the area for 3-4 hours.

Drop rate on brain must be around 20%, Gizzard is even worst, i would say 10%. In fact, most quests in Blasted Land are gathering quest and ALL of them have terrible drop rate.

I did all 5 quests while leveling up herbalism and it wasn't all that bad and the experience was really good too. The drop rate is kind of low but I think its worth doing.

A good "mindless grind" quest.
