Dragonmaw War Banner (8)

Description

The Dragonmaw orc clan was all but destroyed by the end of the Second War, after they lost control of their red dragon pets. The dragons were not very happy with their old masters, and fiercely hunted the Dragonmaws. What few remained fled from Grim Batol and into the Mountains east of Whelgar's Excavation.

Now they've gained strength, and have an encampment northeast of Menethil.

We want you to attack that encampment. Gather and bring me their war banners as proof.

The banners are dropped by the Dragonmaw Orcs at Angerfang Encampment, due east of Whelgar's Excavation Site. The entrance to the camp is around 42, 41. Be cautious while fighting there, because, although the mobs are reasonably spaced out, the Raiders have a tendency to net you and then run for help when they get low on health. Overall, not a bad quest. Good drop rate, nothing too tough to solo.

These dragonmaw orcs are a PITA to kill. They are levels 26-27, they spawn like rabbits in heat, there are a lot of roamers, they root you with their "Net" spell, they dual wield like dervishes (i.e., fast), they run early (like at 20% life) and they run FAST. Worst of all is the drop rate on the banners - I killed 45-plus orcs to get the 8 banners.

My experience is from doing the quest as a 27 druid, your experience may be different I saw a 25 hunter and a 32 paladin doing pretty well here. A druid can break their roots by shapechanging, but that takes mana, and they will root you 2-3 times a fight in the worst case. Its good to have a ranged attack like spells, a bow, a gun or a pet to kill them fast when they run.

Soloed as a 26 Pally. I used Exorcism on the skeles to pull, which killed them very quickly. There is also another entrance at 41,30

I found the drop rate on the War Banners to be about 33%, so you'll have to kill a few Dragonmaw to get them.

On the positive side, I also got 3 greens and a nice blue drop (Thunderwood) while grinding on these guys, a much higher than average rate, but I'll chalk that up to luck.

This quest has been nerfed massively in 2.3. All the mobs are three levels lower now, and for some reason the tougher orcs (swamprunners and bonewarders) are all clumped up in a weird way, leaving the bulk of the area filled with single raiders that are easily picked off.

Watch out for a Rare Lvl 29 orc named Garneg Charskull (http://classicdb.ch/?npc=2108). When I saw him he was standing around 37,45 guarded by two Dragonmaw Swamprunners.

Also, druids do not forget you can shapeshift out of the Raiders' nets to catch them as they run!

i agree with the guy talking about the drops being so off and crazy 40 min without results is just a waste of even the most lifeless gamers :)

While doing this quest, you could go to the ords that Roshata told, 37.45. He dropd two different items, and the helm is very good. Sell it for alot of money or use it yourslef. I got it from killling him, just killed one of the guards, died ran back killed the other and same thing again. Then only Garneg Charskull were left :)

WEll, i had to kill 25 of them which was quite annoying, however it wasent very diffycult at all, i did it as a lvl 24 rogue. And i got a Buccaneer's Orb Of The Eagle from it as well, so it was quite an easy quest.

I probably spent 15 min. killing maybe 20 to get the 8 banners.&nbsp That's really not that bad of a drop rate.

The entrance to the camp is 42,42. I experienced a fairly poor drop rate, but I guess that's how the system works. All the 'Dragonmaws' will drop the banners, hope this helps.

43, 43 is correct.&nbsp you can see a few dragonmaw orcs off the path.&nbsp there is a path thru the mountains and the orcs are all around.&nbsp there are camps of them and some just along the mountain paths.&nbsp there is an elite lvl 29 mob at loc 38, 45.&nbsp he had two orcs around him, but only one came when i pulled him.&nbsp as a warlock i feared the add away and focused on the named orc.&nbsp he resisted all of my fire so i died the first time.&nbsp second time i used all shadow dmg and he fell like a rock.&nbsp then his add came back but was an easy kill.&nbsp the named orc dropped good loot:&nbsp
~ over 2 silver

~Ringed Helm, head, leather, lvl 25, binds when&nbsp equiped.
76 armor
+8 stamina
+7 spirit

~Jacinth Circle of Arcane Resistance, Finger, lvl 24, binds when equiped.
+8 arcane resistance

the banners droped at a decent rate for me, bout every 3rd kill.&nbsp good luck to you =)

His name is Garneg Charskull He's a rare mob that stands on the edge between the Dragonmaw base to the digging site. he's kinda a mage/shaman and is tough.

abilities: flamestrike, fire shock and fire shield.
He doesn't have high fire resistance, he's IMMUNE to fire spells /bonk.

dropped Garneg's War Belt for me twice.

Seems like an aberration on your drop rate. I just completed this quest (again) with my 23 lvl Paladin - solo. Got the 8 banners in about 15 kills. This is the 5th or 6th character I've done this quest with, and drop rate usually holds about 50%.

Tip for Paladins:
Use Retribution Aura and Consecrate the Raiders, the 'DoT' is kinda big and he will run away in a few seconds :p

I'm going to disagree. Did this last night with a Lvl 24 Hunter. Killed about 20 Orcs to get the 8 banners. Got some decent drops and a good amount of XP. Not every Orc drops a banner so you have about a 1/3 chance of getting one.

The key is once again to be patient and strategize. Don't go too far into the camp. Pick off the strays one by one by pulling them down to the road and then once all the strays are clear, wait for the re-spawn. Usually a single arrow will pull one down without attracting the attention of the others.

Be aware as the ones close to the road re-spawn quickly and you can find yourself getting an add when you really don't need it.

I found the drops to be great, almost a 2 to 3 ratio.
43:43 is the correct coor. i just made my way up the hill and got them in about 12 kills. Only took 10 min with a lvl26 lock.

I killed 20-25 mobs before getting all 8. I was alone and so did not go inside the camp. Instead I killed 5 at a time on the outskirts. Not bad if you want the experience.

The orcs near the encampment have a pretty large aggro radius, so try to either pull or kite the ones grouped together.

I agree with the previous post. I'm a 26 priest and all they do is just net you and keep on attacking you their dual-weild. I shield but they take it down fast. Then they just run and agro more
