Cannibalistic Cousins

Mystic Yayo'jin at Revantusk Village in the Hinterlands wants you to kill 15 Vilebranch Scalpers and 10 Vilebranch Soothsayers. Return to her when this task is complete.

Yayo'jin indicated that these trolls could be found near the Shaol'watha and Agol'watha temples in the north by northeastern region of the Hinterlands.
  •
Vilebranch Scalper slain (15)
  •
Vilebranch Soothsayer slain (10)

Description

Three different tribes of trolls inhabit the Hinterlands, <name>. That is about as far as the similarities between the tribes extends: We are all trolls and we live in the Hinterlands.

The Vilebranch - aptly named - are a depraved lot; feeding on other trolls and humanoids.

If Zul'jin were here, he would have destroyed the whole lot of them with a flick of his wrist - alas, Zul'jin has not yet returned and we are left to our own devices.

It is up to you to destroy the filth of the region!

The soothsayers spawn in groups of two inside the wooden forts at 65,44 and 70, 49.&nbsp The rest of the Vilebranch that you need are positioned around these two areas.&nbsp Watch out for the walkers, there is a pair of them at each site.

There are two areas where these mobs spawn. The first (and most popular) are the three enclosed camps near the river, east of Skulk Rock. The camps have two Soothsayers inside them, and are guarded by about six Scalpers, two of which patrol all the way around the camp. As there are only three camps, one run through all three will only net you a little over half the mobs you need.

The other area is the Altar of Zuul. This is the same place where you get the sacred mallet needed in Zul'Farrak. All around the altar (without going up the steps) you can find scalpers and soothsayers. There are also axe-throwers and wolf pups though, so watch for wandering mobs.

If you clean out the three camps first, then kill all the soothsayers/scalpers near the altar, you can go back to the camps to get the last few kills you need. Things should have respawned by then.

While you're going through the camps, be sure to grab the quest from the blacksmith in Revantusk Village. You'll likely find his tools in one of the camps.

There are A LOT of soothsayers in the Altar of Zul area, 48,66, a few scattered scalpers too, just be careful going to the top of the temple, there are two lvl 50 elites up there. :D

The best place to find them, that I have found, is around the small forts around Shaol'watha. Loc 69, 47. Between the two of them, you will find all the scalpers you need in no time.

This is one of those quests where you need to kill more of one mob than another. In either of these areas, there are spawn "points" where one of up to 3 kinds of mobs will spawn. Obviously you're going to kill the lower needed mobs before you finish the higher (especially if you're doing this quest at The Altar).

The trick:
Just kill everything.

With the exception of the main path up the Altar, the spawn points will birth Axe Throwers (a big pain cuz you need zero of them) Soothsayers (the lower number needed) and Scalpers.

People make the mistake of skipping what they don't need and going around the others. Here's the problem: Let's say there are 30 spawn points for the area. 15 of them are soothsayer and 10 are axe throwers and 5 are scalpers. If you kill the 5 scalpers, chances are only 2 of them will be scalpers next time. This explains why you sometimes see areas with all the same mobs.

Sooner or later (when no one is in the area) the game will reset makeing the area "even steven" but that's too long to wait. Also, walking around for 20 min trying to find the mob you need is killing your xp per hour. Also, more spawn points means a better chance of a rare showing up. The altar area has one.

This is why it's better to just kill them all. If you go ahead and kill axe trowers or extra soothsayers, there is a chance they may birth a scalper (for instance) next time. Plus you gain xp and chances are you'll not agro as many adds when they try to "run in fear".

I call this Blizzard game quest tactic "area killing quests" if you don't like grinding, I suggest you stear clear of this type of quest. But, be aware, 80% of the games quests are like this.

Very simple to do, just find the 3 camps and kill everything you find on these coords (there are only 2 Soothsayers at each camp though, but the XP per mob while grinding them are good):
70,49
65,44
52,39

Its a pretty simple quest. All the mobs are around the Altar of Zul, you can find a few a bit north, but the fast respawns here make it a great place for this quest. I soloed this one easy with my 49 Rogue.

I just ran back and forth between the two camps on either side of Skulk Rock, at about 66,44 and 52,39 (cosmos). There's only two Soothsayers at each of the camps, but by the time you kill off one camp, the other has respawned. Got a chest from one of the camps as well.

Soloed as a 44 shadow priest (undead). Used Shadow Form all the time, so couldn't heal myself, but had no need of it. The Soothsayers are a bit more difficult than the others, just be sure to use Shield at the beginning of combat and Silence when the mob starts to heal itself. You'll kill them fast.

Received 4400 xp points a 1g 40 s. A cool reward :D

P.S.: These mobs are a cool source of wildvines and mageweave cloth (almost 2 or 3 per mob, but not always).

Hope it helps!

Just FYI, these mobs like to run at low health, which can aggro more. So if you're a pally like I am, just use Judgement of Justice first.

Also, the Soothsayers like to use healing wave when they get low, which heals them to almost full health. The Soothsayers also drop wildvine, which can be used for enchanting.

Above is correct, At the Altar of Zul there are a great deal of soothsayers, it is the easiest spot to get them. The Scalpers are easier at the outposts near the rive.
Altar of Zul 44,65

If you are struggling to kill the Soothsayers (they heal each other), here's a suggestion: Pull the one on the right with a ranged attack and run around the corner of the enclosure, they'll run out of the entrance, and will be far away enough from the other one not to aggro it as well.

Both mobs can be found at 4 different locations:http://classicdb.ch/?npc=4467
70,48
65,44
52,39
47,66 [Contains more Soothsayers then Scalpers]
Their level 46-47 mobs
Soothsayers are usually found inside the camps, Scalpers are found outside the camp

I would suggest going to the first 3 locations is mentioned for the scalpers then 47,66 for soothers

Do it with Vilebranch Hoolagins, the tools should be found in one of the first 3 locations above
