Well, he sends you a whisper whenever you use the trinket, and that essentially means he's a real mob, since that's the way Blizzard likes to code things. The most logical place for him would be invisible at a green dragon-dominated location, but putting him near any of the 4 mega-dragon spawns would make him easy enough to stumble on with tracking, and they couldn't insert him in the Emerald Dream since it's isntanced and not existant yet. I've heard rumors of the real embodiment of him (a very pissed-off one) appearing in Moonglade on the test realm for whatever reason, and saw a screenshot of it, but it could have been doctored, and I think it was since he's not a drake like the screenshot showed. Again, Moonglade would bring up the "easily stumbled upon" issue. Thusly, they would need a place totally secluded that there is no chance to really see him. Out in the ocean surrounding the tram seems like a logical place to me. However, considering how long ago people saw him in the tram, I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow made him undetectable by now.

Final conclusion: More than likely he actually does exist as a being somewhere, but Blizzard is gonna make it hell to find him.

I had this guy talking to me in the cave in wpl, just text in my chatbox saying some weird crap about freeing him.
I also found a Timolain's Phylactery in the cave. I might go try find him in the trams, see if that does anything.

Eranikus speaks to you from the trinket every time you use it and the things he is saying to you are cluse as to what to "really" do with the trinket. One of the things that made me start to think about it was the part where he said a name as hes old friend and the time after that he said something about the swamp of sorrow, so i check up the name here at allakhazam and it turns out there is one npc with the same name as Eranikus used (cant remember it at the moment) and he takes the trinket from you as the start of a quest chain that is as far as i know still broken.

for what i know it might be a great quest chain but utill its fixed keep the trinket.

I heard him talking to me, while I was hunting in Winterspring. Before I heard him, I used "Chained Essence of Eranikus" out of the Sunken Temple.

i fell of the train today going to stormwind and with track dragonkin on i found this guy on the map he is in the deeprun tram and i see his icon but i cannot find him any further info would be nice
