Arugal Must Die

Kill Arugal and bring his head to Dalar Dawnweaver at the Sepulcher.
Head of Arugal

Description

Arugal still resides in Shadowfang Keep. We cannot claim Silverpine as a strategic stronghold for the Dark Lady until Arugal is slain.

I shall see to it that his magic is eradicated, <name>. But I leave it in your hands to see that Arugal meets the death he so deserves.

Travel to Shadowfang Keep and put an end to Arugal's foul spells once and for all. Bring to me the vile wizard's head!

This is one of the first difficult instances of the game.&nbsp You have packs of 3-4 20-22nd level elites to contend with and serious challenges to face before you can get to Arugal.&nbsp An experienced party can do this with care and attention to aggro range, focusing their attacks precisely.&nbsp Inexperienced groups (unless way overlevelled) will wipe again and again.

Arugal himself is quite dangerous and teleports continuously during the fight within a two leveled environment that makes it difficult for melee characters to reacquire him as a target.

Anyone telling you this is an easy instance is either lying, bragging or carried through by other more sensible players and blindly confusing their competence with ease.

There is an easy way to kill Arugal. Tag him and run back to the main chamber, where you killed Fenrus. The person who has aggro stays in the Fenrus room. Everyone else goes to Arugal's room. What will happen is Arugal charges towards the Fenrus room and then whacks one or two times (at most, sometimes none at all) and teleports back to his main room. This allows the other members of the group to smack Arugal around until his aggro changes to someone else. This new person can then go to Fenrus' room and repeat as before. Everytime he teleports, he'll erase any dots on him, but he will not reset his health (as of 4/3/06). This most likely will be patched, however.

A few other tips. Do not go into the room to kill Fenrus. Kill him in the hallway. Have the tank stand in the hallway to attract the mobs that spawn afterwards. If you kill a named, sometimes a new wolf-man spawns in a place that you may have cleared. For example, when you kill the Baron, a wearwolf spawns in the room adjacent to the courtyard and adjacent to the Baron's room. This can complicate pulling, so go back and kill this. The tricky pull spot is the Knight's room (up the stairs past the Baron's room). Here is a way to pull this room. Have a warlock cast Eye of Kelrog and have a priest cast the spell-shield on it. The eye can get aggro, but the mobs ignore it unless it gets too close. As a result, you can pull fewer mobs and sometimes even singles from clusters of mobs. (This works in general.) In the Knight's room, have the tank grab the ghost in the hallway. Then send the eye all the way to the right (upon entering) and grab the attention of the Knight's in the back (the side opposite of the named mob). You can clear the room in this way so that when you pull the named you only get 2 adds. Of course, you can also just send in the puller.

All in all this is a challenge. Did this with 4 26s. (Mage, Warlock, Warrior, Priest.)

As Obaa, said above, it requires level 18 to take the quests, but also, it is NOT part of the Arugal's Folly quest chain, so if you are interested in making a twink character with the Seal of Sylvanas, you don't have to go through the chain getting a lot of exp.

A fairly difficult Elite quest. Brought a full group --
31 hunter
29 hunter
27 warlock
18 warlock
18 mage

We had some difficulty clearing some parts of the quest, and it's a long way back to arugal, who's up and down through the castle, in a far-away tower.

When pulling Fenis, stay to the bottom of the circular room. His guards will make a lap around the balcony, and hunters/casters can chew their hp up before even getting to your party.

We lost to Arugal. We'll be back with a healer. He's tough without one.

Just did the quest as a lvl 22 priest, with a lvl 22 rogue, lvl 23 shaman, lvl 25 warlock and lvl 27 hunter. It was a pickup group. I don't know how we pulled it off, but we took down arugal on our second try. Before Arugal we had another wipe in a room where we somehow got around 20 adds.
Fenis didn't seem like a problem at all, hits hard but goes down fast. Arugal was a pain, we had both me and the shaman constantly spam our heals at the hunter (who was tanking :P) while the rest just threw all their damage on him. Both me and the shaman were out of mana and the hunter at 100 or so hp when arugal went down.

As a 30 Hunter, spec'd mostly in Beastmastery, I could not solo this instance.&nbsp One trick I used over and over again, was to pick a mob in a group, send my pet to it, and concentrate on that one mob with my ranged attacks. my pet would of course die since there were usually 3-4 mobs beating on him, but not before we took down that ONE.&nbsp Soon as pet was about to die, I'd FD, let the mobs go back to sleep, wake up, revive my pet, feed him and tackle the next mob.&nbsp This way, we were able to wean down larger groups one mob at a time, painfully slow though.

Note that in ANY place I could, I would naturally pull them one at a time, and that went quite fast.

At 30, I can safely tackle 2 level 24 Elites, 3 is troublesome especially if they summon.

I guess, eventually, I could have got through the entire instance this way, but the amount of time involved became not worth it.&nbsp Over 3 hours and I still had quite a ways to go.

I agree that you need +10 levels to take on an instance solo. And, of course, by then there is almost no point to do it, unless you're farming stuff for guildies or your alts.

In some ways, it would be nice if instances spawned based on group size (similar to CoH), to give solo classes like Hunters a chance to do them. Not everyone wants all the drama of being in a group, arguing over loot, people not paying attention and aggroing adds, quite a pain if you ask me.

You continue after the bat boss guy... go out that room's back door, follow rampart to the large building...

Kill sons of arugal and those ghost wolves (pita)...

Reach room with giant wolf... hill him...&nbsp locked door behind that wolf

Arugal yells at you and summons 5? demons, kill them and door opens...

Work your way up to final room, has 3 wolf guys on bottom floor, he stays on upper doing ranged attacks, teleports to other ledges during combat...

Pet helps, ranged attacks help, mana drain helps...

We went 3: Lvl 27 Warrior, Lvl 28 Warlock and me, lvl 26 Priest.

We did the whole instance pretty easy except for Arugal. We tried 3 times and got wiped.

I guess I'll wait to lvl 30 and use my Shadow Protection spell. Maybe then we'll resist most of his devastating shadow bolts and werewolf polymorph.

This might be self serving in that I am a healer: but we brought the following group and cruised:

lvl 28 priest
lvl 26 priest
lvl 25 hunter
lvl 29 Shaman
lvl 26 rogue

I was worried that w/o warrior we'd struggle. Shadow priest attacked and healed when necessary other priest was primary healer. Arugal was killed 1st attempt and was able to take out 1 priest only who was ressed by other.

My Blood Elf group did this instance yesterday :

(At the start of the instance)
Rogue Lv24
Paladin Lv24
Hunter Lv23
Mage Lv22
Priest Lv22

A well balanced group. We wiped everything from the start to Nandos rather easily. The battle with Nandos was tough, but nothing we couldn't handle. We each got one level by the time we got to Arugal. we were pretty confident facing the archmage, but he wiped us all. We were sitting downstairs while he was upstairs, and by the time we got up the stairs, the battle was already over since our mage was dead (crit) and our paladin was transformed into a werewolf. He wiped us one by one after that.

We tried a second time. The priest, mage and hunter stayed on the platform when you enter the room, while the pet of the hunter, the rogue and the paladin attacked Arugal directly. A tough battle, especially for the priest (which was me), since each hit we took was devastating to our health, and each heal had to come fast. He also teleported twice, which was very annoying for our attack group. The battle lasted between 90-120 seconds. But what do you know... At the end, we beat the guy, nobody died (amazingly) and he dropped the blue belt, which I lost with an horrible roll.

It's the toughest boss I had to face until know with my blood elf.
Oh and at Level 23 turning the quest in, I got 3300XP
