Crystalized Scales (8)

Description

Travelers keep asking me about the Stonetalon Mountains. It seems to be a popular place for adventure--it doesn't matter if you're seeking wyvern, elementals, or you have business with the Venture Co.

Within the Charred Vale, deep in Stonetalon, there used to be a species of basilisks whose scales, when ground to dust, made a wonderful reagent for some spells I've created.

If those basilisks still live, I would love to have a few of their scales.

Take your time, it is no rush, but I can pay well.

Got Quest for Collin Mauren in Stormwind.
1.) Stonetalon Mountains are in Kalimdor.
2.) Make your way to The CHarred Vale (sw on map)
3.) starting from (36.46) there are Basilisk's (they drop the Cristalized Scales...)
4.) get CScales return to Mauren in Srotmwind.

not sure if Basilisk's drop this items in other areas.... but above worked for me..

:)

btw... seems like Basilisk's are in this areas the most.. (36.46) and (30.74).... kinda at he entances/exits to Charred Vale...

this definately should help... :))

loc 33.73... around Charred Vale.
Very poor drop rate, and a very frustrating quest.

Drops from all types of Basilisks... but drops are rare.

I got Crystalized Scales drops from all the different kinds of basilisks in the Charred Vale. about 1/3 dropped, and it took me about an hour to an hour and a half to get t hem all.

While you're there make sure to do Reclaiming the charred Vale

Do it with 3 quests:
- Enraged Spirits (special quest)
- Reclaiming the Charred Vale
- Wounded Ancients

That saves playtime more and you can almost kill all what you see for 3 quests.
It seems low level basilisks drops better.

you can also find the basilisks in shimmering flats 80,62 in and around a giant crater. Shimmering flats also has a bunch of quests for you to try 2 ding with.&nbsp Shimmering flats is located in the thousand needles area in kalimdor.&nbsp It is to the FAR south east region.&nbsp For alliance, the boat to the left in wetlands (if you r in town facing docks) will to you to theomore in Kalimdor, go to the barrens (which is to the west), when in the barrens go south.&nbsp That's where you'll find thousand needles. F.W.I. I noticed that the basilisks drop rate sucked monkey balls. Hope this helps some1.

The Flats might be an interesting alternative but maybe a little high for my 25 Druid. I killed about 18 in the Vale (while doing 3 other quests, so it wasn't a waste of time) and got 2. Excuse me but I think that is too low a drop rate at this level. If we were trying to farm Elemental Air in Silithus, fine, but this is just too low at this level, particularly for a BoP wand which is useless to many. If it was BoE, that would be a different story.

You might as well do this in conjunction with Reclaiming the Vale, Enraged Spirits and Wounded Ancients but as a standalone quest, you'll find it very frustrating.

They can be a #$%^& if there are lots of others around, but if you want to stay in the Charred Vale, there are around 5-7 of them that spawn in the back area (near the road to Desolace).&nbsp

Just hang out, get extra xp from killing other badies in the area and you should have it done within an hour.&nbsp Do the harpies quest(s) at the same time.&nbsp No sweat.&nbsp Just be patient

Okay, the drop rate *is* very low. If you do the quest, I suggest you also do Smoldering Embers, Reclaiming the Charred Vale and Wounded Ancients at the same time just so you don't get too frustrated :p. I did those quests at once and finished the other 3 (even the one that involves killing 28 harpies) much faster than this basilik quest. All kinds of basiliks drop the scale and they don't have any special abilities that I encountered, so they are easy to kill, but aside from the low drop rate you also have the problem that you can pretty much only fight along the walls, otherwise you end up drawing adds to no end. If you do decide to set up in the middle of the Vale, I suggest you choose one of the small hills (like the one at 32,63) so you can at least see what's going to aggro you a second later. Even setting up along the wall is difficult cause there are harpy nests all over the place.

These scales are hard to come by. Drops are not frequent. Spent 2 levels kill and questing in the area and I only got 5/8 scales. And since I have a better wand, I deleted the quest.

Since this wand is attainable at level 17, it is a better twink wand than the more common http://classicdb.ch/?item=11288. At least if you plan on doing damage with your wand. If you want stats, look elsewhere.

i got this quest with my lvl 17 warlock in stormwind and decided to take her to complete the quest and get the gryphon route up at stonetalon peak...big huge mistake! all the basilisks that i encountered were lvl 23/24, even though they run the range of 19-24. i must have died at least a dozen times before i did some research on wands and found that there are equal or better wands to obtain elsewhere. there is a vendor to repair gear at stonetalon peak and an inn, but they are so far away from the mobs as well as the graveyard - way too much running around. even stocked up on potions, etc. it's not worth the time or frustration, unless you bring a crew.

It was a waste of my time to go back to Stonetalon just for this quest, but I still had it in my log when I was in Shimmering Flats. The scales quickly dropped from the basilisks there while I was doing "A Bump in the Road". The quest is green to me now though, but at least I'll get something for it without having wasted any time.

From Ashenvale - along the border with Stonetalon Mts you'll see a map location called TalonDeep path. There is a tunnel there through the mountains.

Low drop rate, be prepared to kill a lot of these. There are a few in the entrance canyon that are level 23ish (approx 37,43 to 37,53) and more all along the southern edge of the Charred Vale that are levels 24-26 (approx 27,70 to 37,70)

Got drops from all versions of this basilisk.

These go hand in hand with the fire elementals (Enraged Spirits)

I would do this quest with Enraged Spirits (fire elementals), Reclaiming the Charred Vale (harpies),and Wounded Ancients (corroded shrapnel)

I am a level 29 Dwarf Paladin - not too much trouble solo but only 2 at a time at most...

I had this quest in my log for long when I was in the Shimmering Flats the other day. There are basilisks, too, and they even drop the scales! So don't abandon it if you don't want to return to Stonetalon, just wait until you want to Gadgetzan or the Shimmering Flats (nice place to do some quick quests, anyway).

don't bother with this quest unless you have a lot of time to waste on it, and a high level friend to run you through. The beasts aren't the problem, it's the asshat hordes running their friends through (which is totally unnecessary considering this is a low level beast area). solo'd as a 29 mage and was ganked 3 times in 25 min. graveyards are few and far between, and considering the gank-rate, it's not worth it. all areas on the way are horde controlled, so if you needed your armour repaired (like me) do it in theramore. there are almost no flight points, and the one that is is not a gryphon path, which makes it totally useless to get back to theramore. so if you like walking, and not playing, have fun doing this. otherwise the xp earned for finding things is the amount you could get killing a few things your level elsewhere. i won't be going back to kalimdor until i'm a much higher level.

I went up there with my lvl 26 lock, and I was doing okay until I was ganged up on by a harpy, a basalisk and a fire elemental. I ended up dying AND getting lost. The graveyard is so far away, that this quest is NOT worth the headaches. I was running all over the place trying to get to my body. There are so many mountains and peaks that you have to go way out of your way to get around. Once I found my body, a hearthstoned out of that place.

The harpy and the elemental must have just respawned, I killed one of each just before I attacked that basalisk. I'll keep this quest, but I'm taking friends next time.

Did this as a level 24 Warlock. What a chore! The drop rate from killing 23-26 Blackened Basilisks was like 12-15%, which doesn't sound too bad until you realize that there are about 8 Basilisk spawns in the area of the Charred Vale that you can safely negotiate @ lvl 24 (i.e. before you're dealing with multiple 27-29 mobs), and they're spread over a 2.5 minute run area that's heavily interspersed with non-target mobs of equal level.

So this ends up being a HUGE grind... a very disappointing farming experience for me. Sure, the reward is good for that level, but it's nothing I can't get at AH for 30+ sp. :-S

MAde it to the zone with little to no prob with my lock at 27. The canyon leading down into the area where they say the basilisks are.. Is the safest place to get them. If you like swimming through harpies, elementals and evil trees that eat you, then go ahead. But if you stay in the canyon it is quite safe. I agrrod like 4 mobs out of stupidity and easily took them. But not getting links is simple as long as you dont space out like I did XD
