Darkshore Grouper (6)

Description

I love fishing. The Blump family is known for fishing. My name is Gubber Blump; I fish.

There's a kind of fish I like to catch around these parts called Darkshore grouper. I used to go out on a boat to fish for grouper, but no boats have been going out since them mean ol' murlocs moved in. I bet they been eating up all the grouper too.

Say, you wanna help me catch Darkshore grouper? I'd give you a bona fide Blump Family Fishing Pole if you did! It's a real good pole to catch fish with.

Why was this harder for me to figure out than some other skills? Just an idiot, I guess.

Anyway, if you do the quest, Gubber will lend you a pole. If not, you need to buy one (fishing trainer and supplies in Darnassus and Lakeshire), the bait (shiny bauble to start) and get trained.

Find a body of water, equip the pole (replace your main hand weapon with the pole), "bait" the pole (with the bauble or better bait), then (I didn't realize this was necessary) find the Fishing icon in your spellbook and drag it to an icon bar. Click on the fishing icon and you will cast. You'll see the green fishing "progress" bar on your screen. You need to recast when the progress bar disappears. Just keep recasting until you get the fish you want.

When the bobber moves and you put the cursor over it, you get a gear icon. Right-click the gear icon and you will get a fish, something else or the message that "your fish got away" (same thing as an empty loot box). I left the cursor on the icon most of the time but you don't need to do that.

I did the Bubber Glump quest and got to lvl 14 in about 18 minutes, with the 6 required fish and about 8 others. XP was only 100 but after all, my 54 Druid was late to the game.

Why start now? Look up Deviate Fish and you'll understand. I stole the recipe from the Gadget AH. Why not? Everyone should be a fisherman.

A very easy quest. Gubber Blump will even lend you a fishing pole for the task. You can start fishing directly next to Bubber Blump. The quest can easily be completed with a very low fishing skill.

There are a few fish that you can pull in. Oily Blackmouth can normally be sold in the auction house for quite a few silver each.

The quest should take less than fifteen minutes and will also raise you fishing skill while your doing it.

Just Fish beside the quest giver, and the grouper will turn up.

Although the Quest-giver mentions that the murlocks have probably been eating the Grouper, they will not drop it. They must be fished with the Fishing Skill.

The name is probably a reference to a Peter Gabriel song called the family and the fishing net

You could also buy the Darkshore groupers in the Auction House, if you want (not sure why'd you do it though, since you could raise your fishing skill here).

An interesting note is that after you complete this quest, you get a mail from Gubber Blump, thanking you once more and giving you a Shiny Bauble as an extra reward (http://classicdb.ch/?item=6529).

WARNING:

If you've just done this quest, you cannot do a character migration for that character. Their mailbox will appear empty but because of the way mail works (mailbox contents include items that haven't arrived yet) your mailbox will not be 'empty' and char migration will fail.

I just got snared by this, nasty :(

It is actually a reference to Bubba Gump. The fish company Lt. Dan and Forest Gump start up in the movie Forest Gump.

Easy quest,

I love fishing anyway and already had some fish before taking the quest, caught a few of the pier and the rest beside the fisherman.

There was another player there aswell who offered to sell me the fish, so you may get lucky if you don't have/want the fishing skill.

It took me an entire 4 minutes to catch 5 groups, 1 rainbow fin albacore, then a final grouper.

I had 21 fishing skill to start, bought some bait so I had 46 to start off with.&nbsp I took the advice of a poster some posts up by stepping right in front of Blumper in the water and started fishing.

Hope this helps anyone,&nbsp it was either Grouper Time of the day 5am EST!&nbsp Or somethin..&nbsp But a whole 4 minutes for a pole and exp.

Don't under estimate fishing,&nbsp once you get high enough and find some floating wreckage and some nice schools of fish, you can make some good money.

13/1/07. I'm a lvl 13 NE Hunter. I went to the spot near the quest giver but didn't know what to do. I didn't have a fishing rod so wasn't sure. Came on here and read that you need to have the fishing profession which I didn't have and a fishing rod. It also said to go to Darnassus if you don't have either and get them. I went to Darnassus, went to bank and asked Sentinel where to go, went there, got profession than bought rod. Went back to spot but didn't know how to fish, someone told me.

I spent probly 20-30 minutes on it. Got 5 of them, than caught 4 other fish and lost a tonne. Finally was about to give up so took one more shot and got it. :D

14/1/07. I recieved the letter and ball in the mail this morning.

Ok Took Me About 4 Minutes To Complete This Quest, However It Took A Further 2 Minutes Trying To Figure Out Where I Get The POle From Plus Were To Start Fishing.

Use Faandrel's 36,49, For those of you who dont know how to do this download cosmos then when in game type /tloc 36,49. Her eyou now have a brownish circle on your big map (Press M) move to that location when you have the pole and stuff then go to your skills drag fishing apprentice to a action bar and then when standing at those co-ordinates right click and wait till the bobby jumps slightly then right click on it.

Good Look

Email me if you have any further issues with this quest.

I've been fishing for 30 min and caught only 4 fish, none are the grouper! Most of the fish run away after I click the bobber when it jumps. Is there a trick to this? Or would a better pole fix this problem?

I'm using the Strong Fishing Pole (+5 fishing) but it's taking ages to get them! I'm getting every other fish but Darkshore Groupers, annoying.
Very annoying seeing as i'm right by the Darkshore Grouper School! Does it help if you're not standing by the fisherman who gives you the quest? (Gubber Blump)

I happened to be leveling up my fishing skill so I already had the grouper when I came across Gubber. So when I accepted the quest I immediately completed it and received the pole, then a day or so later I received a letter from him thanking me with an Aquadynamic Fish Attractor. It was quite nice and unexpected.

You will defintely want this Fishing Pole. It works so much better than the generic one you buy from the fish vendor. And you can simply fish right off the beach where the quest Originates.

Takes about 10-20 mins to do, but worh it.
