Older players might recall the Firemane dragonkin as being elites. However a patch changed them to standard mobs making this quest quite a bit easier.

Scalebanes can be found in the Wyrmbog between 48,75 and 51,80

I am a lvl 49 Shadow Priest- this is one very difficult quest.&nbsp The Elites are like lvl 51-52 regular creatures.&nbsp Bring a group.&nbsp I finally was able to complete solo at this lvl with alot of Buffs esp to absorb fire.

42,66 for the other elites

Don't know where you guys are getting all this talk of elites....

The scouts and the ash-tails can be found in Stonemaul Ruins(42,67 and 39,68), while the Scalebanes are on the edge of Wyrmbog(48,75)

The Scalebanes over there are around lvl 44 and NOT elite. Cleared this with no deaths as a lvl 42 Mage

Just watch out for the patrols...

This quest is NOT elite - and VERY easy to solo (42 warrior, did it without any problems. could tank 2 of them and didnt go past 1/2 health)

Go with these Quests:
Identifying the Brood
Overlord Mok'Morrok's Concern

they are all in the same zone

.. especially as a hunter, since you can solo it, though I highly recommend having at least a few points in BM. Also, a couple of Pet Talent Points in Fire Resistance is a good thing. Auto-shot, auto-shot, auto-shot, auto-shot, mend pet, mend pet, rinse & repeat. The XP you get from the mobs seems to be geared toward two players duo'ing this quest, as I was getting around 520-540 pr mob, and if two players were doing it it would be 260-270 xp pr mob which is what you usually get for normal mobs at the same level.

And for those who must know, the shield sells for the most.

There's a really easy way to kill a ton of these dragons if you're a ranged character. On the south side of the Stonemaul Ruins, at about 44, 66, there's a fallen tree that's laying over the remnants of the spiked fence. If you jump onto the tree and run up to the roots, you can hit almost everything in the big, ruined courtyard area. If you cast/shoot from up there, the dragonkin have to run all the way around to a certain point, where they can path up to your location. Usually you can get off 6-8 spells (as a mage) before they even get to you as a result of this pathing. Very easy, painless kills.

Soloed this as a 47 druid, but wasn't super easy- a few times I had to warstomp and haul ass in cheetah form to survive. It's easy to take these guys one at a time as they are spread out pretty good. The problems arise when the patrols come around. It's impossible for a mid 40's to take on three of these at once. I'm starting to think Warstomp is the best ability in the game. The Scalebane's I only saw inside the cave but the other two types were all over outside. These things are slow to die, takes a while. Do these quests at the same time:

As a firemage, do the following:
1. Frostbolt from the max range
2. Arcane Missiles while it comes over
3. When its close, cast Cone Of Cold immidiately, then turn around and start running away.
4. When youre 2-4 yards away, cast Frost Nova and run away 10-20 more yards.
5. Cast Arcane Missiles again.

If its still alive, try to slow it by using Forstbolt, Frost Nova, or Cone Of Cold, then run away and cst arcane missiles and repeat this until it dies. Yes, it does eat lots of mana. But it worked just fine for me when I was doing all those "dragon" quests.

in the past, this quest used to be elite, and all those mobs were elite, but it has since been changed, thats why many older comments mention the mobs being elite and this quest being hard to solo.. now this is just your simple 'slay x by yourself' quest that you can do fairly simply.

Warlocks, if you're having trouble with these mobs (I was drain tanking with a succubus [pre 40] and feeling useless) pull out your Felhound. With it's high fire resist it's practically immune to these mobs and it eats their fire shield buff making fights (even 2 or 3 at once) cake.

It took me a while to figure this one out, but there is an easy way to kill these dragons. They put on a fire shield that apparently does most of the damage to you. They will all turn sideways to cast this (I don't know why), and when they do, disrupt their casting (rogue's kick, shaman's earth shock...). THey are a lot easier this way. If you can't disrupt them, then maybe you can dispel it after they put it on (shaman's purge does it nicely). I couldn't believe how much easier they were without that shield.
