The Lost Tools

Foreman Oslow of Lakeshire wants you to retrieve his toolbox from the bottom of Lake Everstill.
Oslow's Toolbox

Description

I could really use a hand here, <name>. With the town under siege, it's been hard to get supplies. My tools were being delivered from Goldshire by wagon but the bridge was blown out. We put the tools in a boat but the orcs hit it with a catapult. Just my luck, my toolbox sank right to the bottom of the lake.

Retrieve my toolbox, <name>, and I'll make it worth your while.

If you open up your world map, the chest is located at the top of the letter "L" in the word Lake.&nbsp There are no murlocs if you access it from the south shore of the lake by the bridge guards.

Here's the best way to find the toolbox. First, stand on the bridge leading into Lakeshire. You'll see a patched, wooden part of the bridge*- stand on that and jump off into Lake Everstill below - jumping off the east side of the bridge into the water. Swim east and look underwater - beware of level 18 and 19 murlocs. As you swim east underwater, you'll come to a sunken rowboat. Keep swimming past it to the second sunken rowboat, and you'll see the chest on the bottom of the lake by the second sunken rowboat. So basically, jump east off the Lakeshire bridge and swim east, watching underwater for murlocs and the first then second sunken rowboat, and you'll find the sunken chest that contains Oslow's tools there on the bottom near the second sunken rowboat. Good luck!

*note - the wooden patched section of the Lake Everstill/Lakeshire bridge I am talking about is the small patch that's closest to the south end of the bridge & the Redridge Mountains- not the wide wooden section of the bridge closest to Lakeshire. Right when you're first starting to enter Lakeshire, coming in from Redridge Mountains, that southern end of the bridge has a small little wooden patch on its east side. That's where I'm talking about.

To find the tools, jump straight off the end of the single dock on the east side of the bridge by town. Swim east underwater and you will see the wreckage of a small boat on the bottom of the lake. Continue east to another small boat wreckage by some rocks, the tools will be there inside a Sunken Chest.

This quest was easy. I'm L18 Mage. I found the chest at the bottom of the lake near where the letter "L" is on the map.

Yes, there are Murloc's around but I found that approaching from the south side of the lake was the easiest way in. There are a few Murloc's around the chest but they are patroling so if you time your entry right you can get in and get the tools and be out before the Murlocs come back into agro range.

It's decent experience for the "work" involved.. IE: 3mins for 8-10 kills worth of reasonable mobs.

If your a pet class,.. Just avoid best you can, and let the pet keep the attention of the murlocks you can't avoid.&nbsp Shift-click the box, so it's all one step and swim out.

Otherwise,.. The die and rez on top of the toolchest isn't a bad idea.&nbsp

At 15 I was able to do this without a problem, had one agro that I could have avoided,.. but pet occupied the Murloc.&nbsp (Could have killed it as well, but decided to "run" for it.

Good luck you guys.

Also, if you haven't gone to the dock, with the kids, the necklace quest is about the easiest experience in the zone.&nbsp 2-3minutes for 1350xp :)

Nah, no way. And whoever said the Murlocs don't follow you to the top of the water is WRONG. Three times dead, just not worth it.

Don't go in from the north bank as that is where the murlocs live. Cross the bridge and walk down to the broken boat on the shore that you can see from the bridge. Then swim out to the L, locate the chest, dive down and bingo. If you take care and watch out for the mobs, you should be OK. I did it easily with a 15th lvl mage as soon as I tried the south bank.

this quest is all about timing. tools are at 41, 54 and if you plan it right, you can avoid the murloc on the bottom of the lake (i was 15- didnt want to fight an 18 murloc) and you can avoid the lake thrasher on the other side too (he was elite skull to me). i slipped in and out in under a minute. didnt have to kill anything. i also started swimming from the other end of the lake, the side closest to duskwood.

If you'd like a map, the object you're looking for is the (Object #32).

I recommend doing (Quest #3741) at the same time as this one. Neither require fighting, and the quest items for both are recovered from objects on the lake's floor. You might also want to do (Quest #150) if you're high enough level.

It IS at 41,54, approach from southern shore if you want to avoid aggro (as stated before).

I don't see how a level 18 Druid (or a Rogue, as stated earlier) couldn't handle the mobs in Lake Everstill.

I had no problems doing this with my level 17 Druid, with my partying equips on. I even fought some Murlocs down there (it's no problem for me as long as it's lvl 18-19, one mob and I'm in Druid form :P).

I'm in the same situation as Erinne. Jumping off of a bridge or pier gets you under water but there seems to be no depth control. I have seen other characters much deeper than mine goes.

How long can you stay under water? I don't want to kill my character experimenting.

To swim, press down both mouse buttons and use your mouse to control the direction. I know there are some players that prefer to use the arrow keys instead of the mouse. Use the mouse when you swim.

Dont jump fropm thje bridge.
From town go past the bridge then make a left after the bridge then go into the water from there.
Swim out to the "L" in lake and dive directly down form there.
Open the box get the goody and go directly back up!
Swim in where you entered.
That's it.
No aggression nothing.
I went with my pet and we had no aggression from nothing.
Don't even look under the water until you get to the "L" in lake!
Happy Hunting!

The actual box is at 40,54 - I know I just went got it! There is an elite Thresher swimming around, just let it get outta the way. The box is rectangular and is near a sunken boat hull. The "L" of Lake is an accurate hint (see below)
There are a lot of murlocs on the lake floor but just swim down to the bottom in between them make sure you are standing (not swimming) and click on the golden cogwheel - facile mes amis!

This is a piece of cake for any level, but you have to do what is advised below in earlier posts:

1. Approach from southern side of lake, on east side of Bridge. If the lvl 25 Elite Thresher is too much to handle, wait for him to swim east and you'll have plenty of time before he returns. If you approach from the north bank you'll swim directly over a phalanx of lvl 19+ Murlocs.

2. Pull up the map and go to where you see the "L" (in "Lake Everstill"). Use your cursor to scan the bottom of the lake on the left. There are two chests, the other one (almost directly under you) says "Locked". That's for another quest (I guess), but the one you want will open... just swim to it and stand still.

3. Just swim back to the south bank, stay close to the bridge... do not engage Murlocs or they'll likely swarm you.

The 2 Armor Kits reward is well worth it.

I've found that the easiest way to do this quest that even works for a low level character is to get yourself attacked and swim to the chest... making sure to die next to the chest. Then you can reserect yourself right next to the chest so that no murlocs attack you.
