Mazen's Behest

Retrieve Khadgar's Essays on Dimensional Convergence and deliver them to Watcher Mahar Ba in Nethergarde Keep.
Khadgar's Essays on Dimensional Convergence

Description

Master Mazen's directions were quite clear: Deliver a very important essay to Watcher Mahar Ba in Nethergarde Keep.

But I had never been to the Blasted Lands before! The journey was frightening!

When I got to the Swamp of Sorrows, I made a wrong turn and ended up surrounded by horrible plant-like swamp creatures. They lurched as if to attack me so I ran. But in my haste I dropped the essay. One of the beasts took it I am sure.

Could you please try to retrieve it and deliver it to Mahar Ba?

Be prepared for a LONG grind. I was level 45 when I did this. I got just over 5 bars before the book dropped. At 145 exp per kill, that means I killed more than 200 of them. Suffice it to say, I was very happy to finally get the damned thing.

Try the Misty Valley in the northwest corner of the Swamp of Sorrows, as most drops occur here.

I am going to make a shirt that says I killed 200 swampwalkers and all I got was this stupid green axe drop.&nbsp Simply terrible. Giving up after 1 1/2 hours will try this quest when I have absolutly nothing else to do.

I suggest skipping this qst if it doesnt drop within 10 mobs.
It really isn't worth the time or experience you get.
Especially not when there are more people fighting here. It can take a long long time before it finally drops.
Lucky people may get it at the 1st or 2nd drop.

Misty Valley is at Cood:13,35
Watcher Mahar Ba is at Coor:67,18 at the top of the tower, nethergaurd

I received 3300 exp at lvl 46 ally shaman

There are no tricks to quickly doing this quest - it is all based on how lucky you are. I started at halfway through level 41, and ended with the mob that I dinged 42 on. I did the math, and I killed roughly 150-200 mobs for it. If you do not enjoy grinding, kill 10-20 mobs and if you do not get the drop, abandon all hope!

This quest item has an old style WoW drop rate. If you're levelling an alt character through grinding xp, you will thrive on this quest. I cleared the valley on my 40 shaman no less than six times before the quest item finally dropped. Nice herb action at least, as uglybot said above but, if you're power-levelling, good luck with the drop rate!

I cannot express strongly enough how horrid the drop rate for this is. Your luck may vary, but I spent over an hour and half before finally giving up on this terrible waste of time. Avoid this quest unless you are a complete masochist.

I took this quest before the timed quest from darkshire-nethergarde and thought "sure I can get it on the way." I made it, but with 2 minutes to spare, and I really don't reccomend it, the drop rate is still terrible.

So to make this comment purposeful, don't take the timed quest and this quest at the same time,

However, if you're a levelling priest alchemist, these mobbs are perfect to grind on - easy to kill (dispelling their regenration) and occasionally drop herbs.

I got it on my 6th, either you have been killing the wrong guys, or you were extremely unlucky (I may have been lucky too), got it off a Swampwalker Elder

Edit: You can find these elementals all over Swamp., but there are just lots here

It took me and my hubby 1 1/2 hours to find this thing ..... must admit we got 15k xp each [before hand in of quest] and a few herbs in the process so wasn't too bad. We got it off one of the swamp creatures in the area everyone is mentioning..... cant remember which one as they all became a blur after 30 mins. Got the enchant gloves - herbalism as well as 5 other greens.

Might not have been too lucky in getting the quest done but it saved me 10g+ on the recipe for my priest :o)

Whew. For a moment I thought this quest was broken, that the GMs were leading me on, and that I had been Sonied. (SONIED: so' need (v). To be screwed without the potential for pleasure that screwing implies.) And while I'm generally the one who reminds people about statistics, this was a clear case of statistical outliers.

I had accepted the quest (which I seem to recall was given in the wake of the Stockade quests) and started killing the two creatures that match the "horrible plant-like swamp creature" description, of which there are three kinds in the Swamp of Sorrows. (Yes, three. Read on.) I killed dozens but didn't think to count. Fearing a broken quest, I abandoned, reaccepted, and this time kept track.

SWAMPWALKERS: 26
TANGLED HORRORS: 28
MOLT THORNS: 1 (he's a rare, dropped an OK green for me)

55 kills. The one it dropped from was a Tangled Horror, in case you want to concentrate your efforts there.

55 kills for one paper is way too much, especially since the reward is so craptacular. But, and this is a big but, at least it's not broken!

This quest is easy. I did it by:
1) Taking griffon flight to duskwood area.
2) Riding east to Deadwood area.
3) Riding quickly through the deadwood area.
4) Immediately upon entering the swamp of sorrow, go northwards to find an area that has no path, a kind hidden cove area. There you should kill every swamp elemental creature you see until the document drops, it's totally random. Don't worry about any chests or crates you see here, they just have common items in them and are just a distraction.

I killed everything in that area just north of the zone entrance from Deadwind Pass... the Tangled Horrors, the Mire Lord, the Swampwalker Elders, and the Swampwalker. It was a Swampwalker Elder that dropped it.

It seems like this is either really easy or really hard.

I've killed all of the swamp creatures in Misty Valley twice, and no drop. But I note that I visited Mahar first, before I started killing them. I wonder if the other people who had trouble started by seeing the Mahar and that somehow eliminates the drop, whereas people who start with the killing get it pretty easily.

I did NOT visit Mahar Ba before killing the swamp things, but it still took 3 hrs. of constant grinding. I kept that misty vale devoid of creatures the whole time. Fortunately, my lvl40 Lock had no trouble with these mobs.

I earned about 10 bars of xp, but only picked up 2 low greens.
