I did it as a lvl 35. Obviously you have to walk there the first time. Picked up 1300xp and a new flight path. Worth it!

I got the quest at level 32 and got 1300 exp..
Not bad for a simple quest, had my HS there so I could go to IF and then HS back

ok, being a nightelf I already knew exactly how to get to Desolace, but for those of you who don't here are some directions:

From Astranaar in Ashenvale, follow the road East. You will pass a small lake on the left (north), then a small group of ruins (3 broken colums, a bench, and a glowing bird bath thingy) also on the left. Just after this on the Right (south) side of the road, look for a few more broken colums and two lanterns slightly off the main road, in between them is a path (51,58). Follow this path (lighted by lanterns). It heads south to Silverwind Refuge on Mystral Lake and then west to The Talondeep Path. Talondeep Path is a tunnel that leads to Windshear Craig in Stontalon Mountains. Once through head south, first through spiders, then the Venture Co. Loggers, more spiders, and finally the road. At the crossroads follow the road north toward Stonetalon Peak. Along the road you will see a sign pointing to The Charred Vale, take this path. I recomend following the mountain base on the left through the Charred Vale (lot's of Harpies, dragons, fire elementals). Then finally the road to Desolace.

Once in Desolace follow the road south/southeast. At a big skeleton on the right of the road (61,17), turn left (east). You should be running along the base of the mountains. Very soon after leaving the road you will see some ruins ahead, this is the entrance to Nigel's Point 68,17. From there just turn left and run up the hill.

The hardest part about this quest is the travel time. Well worth it though. There are a lot of quests available from Nigel's Point, an Inn, and a flight path.

How do I get here from IF?

The quest sounds like you enter from the east, but actually you have to go southeast of nijel's point, where you'll see some alliance guards.

You don't even have to find any path up any hill...just find the guard standing there at the base of the hill just southeast of nijel's point on the main map.

I spent so much time trying to get up some "secret" path, but nooooo...there's no such thing!

Anyone have any coordinates (metamap or cosmos) for the path after Ashenvale going towards the mountains to The Stonetalon tunnel?

There is a "secret path" but its not a secret path. I'ts stonetalon pass, it takes yo out of ashenvale, into a horde area, cant remember the name, and then you head to desolace from there.
