Creature of the Void

Retrieve the Tablet of Verga for Gan'rul Bloodeye in Orgrimmar.
Tablet of Verga

Description

So few warlocks remain... We risk much, but the risks are warranted. You must quickly reach maturity in your ability if you are to be of use to the Horde and to the Warchief.

It is time that you learned a new summoning spell.

First, you must recover the Tablet of Verga, which was stolen by warlocks of the Burning Blade and is now kept at their lair in Skull Rock to the east of the city. With the tablet, I will show you the runes necessary to summoning a voidwalker.

There are 2 quests with the same name here. Both do exactly the same thing but in different places.
One starts in Orgrimmar, lvl 11, and the quest takes place in a cave on skull rock approx co-ords for entrance are 55,10.
The other starts in undercity, lvl 10, and the quest takes place in a tower as described in some of the posts here.

From what I have read, the one which starts in Undercity is easier compaired to the one which starts in Ogrimmar.

This quest here is for the cave in Skull Rock, not the tower. So please dont use the co-ords for the tower, it will lead you in the wrong direction.

And thanks Bigsucculenta, your post was very useful.

this quest is easy at lvl 10... all you gotta do when you get down to the boss is fear him then send your imp at his voidwalker and take the chest while they are both preoccupied :P

If you go into the cave and follow the path leading up to the right, the tablet is in a box all the way up at the top of the path.

I found this pretty darn hard with the mobs respawning at level 10, =( every 'lock with a voidwalker was a knockdown, drag-out fight...rest was easy...just too much agro in a cave. It is possible, though.

I've done this twice now and have found a pretty simple way to do it. Bring plenty of food and drink, 10 each should do.

On the lower level lock/VW pairs, open with a corruption on the lock and have your imp start attacking about a half second after you start casting. Followup up with an immolate, then 1-2 shadowbolts. You'll be tanking the VW during this, and even in grays/whites you should be around half health or so when the lock drops. Now have your imp attack the VW and pull it off of you, then drop a CoA, corruption, immolate on the VW and followup with a shadowbolt. You can melee it down from there provided you get no resists, and you and your imp should both survive the fight, albeit low on health. Eat/drink and move on.

If you don't mind dying (and it's much faster to), then when you get to the 14s get close, but not too close. Have the imp attack the lock, and as soon as the firebolt lands, run over and loot the chest. This takes a little bit of timing, because you need to start running over to the chest as soon as the lock starts casting and the VW aggros on your imp. This is why you don't want to get as close as possible, because the imp is going to die before the chest is open and you need enough distance from the VW to finish looting. It helps if you autoloot. Then start running out along the southernmost path and hug the wall, you should be able to rez from outside the cave if you do so.

You could probably fear the VW as soon as the lock aggros on your imp and buy yourself more time, but I haven't tried that.

Tablet is NOT in chest by elite boss, if u are facing boss, it's directly behind you down the path, just round the corner. So when you come towards boss, instead of turning left towards him, turn right and follow path down....fight him if you like, but not neccessary :)

These quests now appear to be race-specific.&nbsp You can't go to Undercity and do the one there if you're an orc, for example.
Rating: +3 [-] [+]
By Anonymous on 03/02/2007 (Patch 2.0.8)
And I can confirm they fixed the bug - sort of.&nbsp I tried to do the quest in Undercity as an orc, but could not open the chest behind Perrine.&nbsp I was able to get the quest, both in Brill and the Undercity, but after killing Perrine five times and nothing different happening, I noticed the quest was not in my log as the Undercity version, it was the Skull Rock version.&nbsp I abandoned the quest at that point and was not able to pick it up again until I went back to Orgrimmar.

So I went back a second time at level 13, and following the wonderful advice in this section was just as spectacularly unsuccessful as my first attempt at level 11.&nbsp I went around left, but could not jump up on the ledge where the chest was - though a troll who was after a lieutenant's emblem was able to get up and open the chest.&nbsp

So, on one of my many corpse runs I found the alternate route, which is to go right at the entrance and follow the path to the right all the way around the edge until you get around the ledge.&nbsp The monsters are evenly spaced, so you can pull at most two at a time until the level 14 and level 11 elite at the end (yes he was there and yes he and his voidwalker were on top of the chest). If you go&nbsp left you get a big concentration of mobs in the pit of the cave and probably can't jump up to the ledge from there before they respawn anyway, so don't waste your time.

By the way, you can't fear the caster (they were 5-5 in resisting), and if you fear the minions down there they just pull more mobs.

So I fought my way around the right side, kicking myself in RL for not doing this three levels ago, and when I got to the level 14 I was able to pull just those two at max range without pulling the elites.&nbsp At level 16 it was easy kill by siccing my imp on the caster while I sticky glued the voidwalker to the floor and pummelled them to a pulp.&nbsp At this point I was really tired, and didn't want to flop on the elite and have to corpse run past a newly spawned pair of 14s, so I slumber sanded the caster and then sicced my imp on the minion.&nbsp I had plenty of time to open the chest and then hearth back to Orgrimmar before the caster woke up and helped beat my imp into a powder.&nbsp I'd bought a fire shield grimoire for my imp when I turned 16 and didn't even lose him.

So in short...don't read any other "advice" in this section, fight your way around the right side, pull the 14s, pull the elites with your imp and sacrifice him while you grab the goodies and hearth back.&nbsp Total time: 20 minutes, total deaths: 0.

Do the UC one its much less hassle, although you do have to go back inside skull rock later for a quest, so if you could find someone doing the insignia quest you could team up.

either that or wait till lvl 12 i managed to solo it then but feared the elite and the 14

As of the latest patch you cannot get this quest from the Undercity. If you attempt to grab it from the Mage quarter it will direct you back to Orgimmar (and inform you that you are not the right race for the UC quest) where you will be redirected back to the original Orc lock quest in Skull Rock.

For those of you that can solo this at 10 I truly give you kudos, I personally was not able to do so and I am an experienced warlock player, my fear would be resisted by the level 14 elite, Gazz, and with his bolts doing somewhere between 30-60 damage it made quick work of me. You couple this with the area respawning super duper fast (he respawned 3 times when I was in there alone) this quest is nearly impossible for us mortals at level 10. My advice is to find someone higher level to help you out, otherwise you could get rather frustrated trying to solo this because the machismo factor of some of the posters seems endless.

On a side note Blizzard really needs to balance lock quests out if they are going to disable the ability to get them from other factions, this in no way compares to the Undead version (which is significantly easier) and race shouldn't determine how easy or hard the quest is for the same exact minion.

Fear the woidwalkers and don't loot the mobs to keep respawns at a minimum.
Once you reach the chest with the lvl14 humanoid and woidwalker keep fearing the ww and dot the humanoid. Run around the corners of the passage to cancels his casts, only stay in sight long enough to put up more dots.
Once the humanoid is dead, either kill the ww or just loot the chest while it's feared and rezz at the spirit healer.
Defently possible at lvl10.
Be sure to pick up the quest "Skull Rock" While you're there.

At level 10 this quest sucks. I died over and over. There was a level 14 Warlock in there right by the chest and he kept killing me, even when I rezed right by the chest. You also need to go to the right like you are going to get the Medalion in the other quest. You can't get up to the ledge from the lower level. I finally got it when another player was below me killing stuff.

I just soloed this quest as a lvl 10 Orc Warlock... All you have to do is stay to the right through all the arching paths and use the right strategy for the Apprentices. Don't expect to get through the cave quickly, but this is what I did:

Send Imp after the Apprentice's minion and cast your DoTs on it (Curse of Agony, Corruption, and Immolate) before turning your attention to the Apprentice. Cast your DoTs on him/her while your Imp finishes off the Minion, then switch to using a wand on it (generally not that costly to buy, Lesser Magic Wands are the best - crafted so low-cost on AH and give 11.3 DPS) and you ought to be able to just sit back and wait. Sometimes I'd have to use a healthstone, but that was all. After battle your health will be low and your imp might be dead, re-summon and sit and eat... The respawn rate isn't very fast here so you'll be fine. Make your way to the back chamber, grab the chest, then go back the way you came.

Did this with the wand bought off the AH and everything else I had was what a tailor could craft (that was my tradeskill) so no really uber armor required, just patience.

I was leveling in Eversong, and they wouldn't give me a voidy quest (gave a quest to go talk to warlock trainer in Org). So I tried Brill -- I got a quest to talk to UC warlock trainer, but when he offered me the next stage (going to the Scarlet Crusade tower to get the book) I got a message, "this quest is not available to your race." I once did that version on an undead lock and agree, it is much easier. Oh well. So, just so you don't all waste your time going to UC to try this quest, you can't do that version any more.

I agree... I salute anyone who really completed this quest solo.

I tried solo and got frustrated. I asked for help and a level 12 Tauren hunter came and helped long enough for us to both die well into the cave and then he left me there. I couldn't find anyone else to help so I logged out in a back corner of the cave.

Since there weren't any other Horde available to help me, and since I have a rather high-level Alliance warlock... I brought my Alliance character over and cleared the cave, logged him out, logged in as the level 10 orc warlock and completed the quest. It was so gratifying to see my gnome kill those mobs with one hit after struggling with my orc.

I am sure this can be done solo as a level 10 but it would require lots of time and patience... more than I cared to invest. I remember my gnome's voidwalker quest and it was a challenge but nothing like that cave.

Props to those of you who soloed this quest. I died 3 times before I came to the web looking for tips. :/

I tried the tips on how to fight my way in but after that warlock and her voidwalker spawned next to me while I was fighting one of the warriors, I decided to follow another of the suggestions and log in a higher level character to clear a path before trying. Not what I would call the purest way to do the quest, but it worked. The few warriors that re-spawned while logging my warlock back in were easy to kill. The way out had started to re-populate after I found the tablet, so I hearthed out rather than take the Graveyard Express.

I don't remember the Stormwind human/gnome warlock test being that hard.

It helped that there are only like 3 cave layouts in the game and this cave layout is exactly the same as the one in the Valley of Trials and the goal is in the same location. ( Unfortunately, the layout is also the same as the one in the dwarf starting area and I actually spent time looking for the pick with my dwarf. )

This is how I figured it should be done after dying loads of times:

First to reach the location of the chest go right in the first intersection of the cave and keep going through that way until you see a ~14lvl named with a voidwalker minion. Since character creation is kinda low atm (prolly will change at the beginning of TBC for a few weeks at least) chances are that there will be another silver elite named of 11lvl. I found that killing the 14 lvl guy is much easier. You will have only one shot at it before a partial respawn occurs. Pull the guy with a shadow bolt and put dots on him. Then fear his minion only when it comes close so that it wont aggro the silver elite. Keep shadow bolting and corrupting until he dies. Don't loot so if the voidwalker kills you the guy wont respawn fast. Now that there is only one named left put your imp to tank his void and fear the named, loot the quest item and get the hell out of there with hs or a suicide run. :P

Unless you're the hardcore roleplayer type, most people wouldn't mind sacrificing themselves for the sake of this spell. After spending a couple of hours down here and finally figuring a tactic to defeat the summoners and the voidwalkers, i decided just to explore and figure out just where i needed to fight to..

The tablet is in a chest. So to make it easy, just find the chest, and drop a body on the 1st level as close as can be. When you run in and come to the passages take the one of the left and follow the stream down running past the apprentices and others. The chest is on the raised platform by the pool at the end. Should be pretty easy with the health you heave by this level.

Now, the trick is, while a ghost, make your way up to that platform and res at the edge of it next to the chest. You'll be far enough away from the guards to do it safely, and the guys on the level below don't seem to notice you. Open the chest and get your tablet. Then make a beeline for the exit. If you die on the way, just rez at the graveyard.

I've got an Orc Warlock.

Its much much easier if you do the Undercity version of this quest. I did it easily at lvl 10.

Its a bit of a journey but you're gonna have to go to U/C eventually anyway.
The guy you need to speak to is in the Magic quarter which is the North/East section. He's standing on the right as you enter with a ! over his head.

(NPC #5675) you need to go to 51,68 and get the book from the box in the tower. Had to kill a couple mobs to get to the tower, then 2 more inside. easy. Then back to U/C to kill the VW.

Gazz'uz (Level 14 Orc, with 14 voidwalker pet) sometimes spawns on the chest and sometimes below ledge with the chest that is needed for the warlock quest. It was poor planning on Blizzard's part to put them both there, but he isn't intentionally part of the warlock quest. He drops his own quest item which is worth some XP.

As was stated above, his voidwalker doesn't swim and will hover at the edge of the water until Gazz'uz dies. At that point, he teleports into the water to fight you too. If you step back out of the water, he should evade and then despawn. I dotted up Gazz'uz and then jumped to the pool of water to the right to LOS pull him around the corner while the dots ticked. I then dotted him up and feared him again. If you keep fear/dotting him, this is doable, though might be difficult depending on how (un)lucky you get on resists.

Felweaver Scornn (Level 11 Orc elite with level 11 non-elite voidwalker pet) is a rare spawn and only sometimes spawns beside the chest.
You can follow the same tactic as with Gazz'uz.

I'm quite an experienced lock player over at the alliance side.
But even that didn't make much difference, the casters with Voidwalkers are extremely hard to solo this way at lvl 10.
You have nothing to tank it up with besides your own body.
The 2 mobs spamming shadowbolts and melee hits really interupts your own casting a lot.
The first couple of fights were really really close, about 2%hp left or so.

After a couple of wipes I decided to use Really sticky glue (http://classicdb.ch/?item=4941) from the quest I did before: http://classicdb.ch/?quest=818
That did the trick a bit to avoid many more wipes.I randomly used it on the Void as well as the caster. Then ran back to a corner so the caster can't hit me. It only lasts 10 seconds so the voidwalker better be dead, or almost dead in my case, before the caster frees himself.
Also make use of the minor pots of health that probably dropped a couple of levels ago, back then it wasn't that much needed as now.

All but the Warlock - Voidwalker mobs were very easy, so get stones from them so you can make Healthstones as well.
(pots and stones are on another timer, so you can use both in 1 fight).

If you happen to be very unlucky that the mob keeps resisting your spell, there's not much you can do about it besides dying.

It's adviced to get 100% mana / hp after each fight

The imp pulling trick to loot the chest really turned out well, who isn't strong, should be wise, right.

I wouldn't recommend fear in here, mobs will 99% of the time run right into another add, so that only messes up the fight.

I suggest doing http://classicdb.ch/?quest=5726 on the same run, so you don't have to come back there, or at least, not untill you have mr Void. :]
