Handful of Oats (8)

Description

Poor Old Blanchy! Such a tired beast after all the work we put her through. I fed her before we left the farm, but we weren't expecting the wagon to break on us. If you could bring her a few handfuls of oats from the fields, I'd be grateful.

I bet you could find some around all of the farms in Westfall, if you can steer clear of those horrific machines that have taken over. There are several farms southwest of here.

It takes fairly more than 5 minutes for a handful to respawn. For me it took over 10 minutes and I just moved out to find other spots.

As he said, there are 3 around Saldean's Farm, at (56,31) (52,34) (52,32)

There are more all around the map, on farms and camps. Here are some more coords.

The Molsen Farm
(46,38) (45,35)

Fullbrow's Pumpking Farm
(49,21) (50,18)

There is a sack of oats on the SW side of the Alexton homestead behind a burnt up house at location 36, 54. And a spawn point just a tad SE of the previous one at the tower on the alexton homestead next to the anvil at the base at location 36, 56

There is a sack of oats on the Molsen farm that is guarded by a Watcher. Its in a little bin/trough int he middle of the field at location 43,35

There is an oatsack inbetween the barn and the house of the pocketwatch quest at location 49, 20

There is an oat sack next to a shed on the SW side of Saldean's farm at location 52, 34

There is a gnoll camp at 33, 26 that has a spawn of 2 oat sacks. The camp is at approx loc 34, 26. I split the camp as a level 15 warrior but it was very tough. Have to like, run in, burn a mob and run out before you die. The 3 spawn in the camp spawns at the exact same time, so ist not practical to try to hold the camp. Go in there and get the two sacks then go do something else. Maybe come back later when the oats are there again

The oats are found on the farms in Westfall Saldean's, Furlbrow's and Molsen's Farm.

Some are on the fields and some are inside (farm)houses.

Note: This quest requires no killing.

Treat this quest as "the old man is too old to go pick up oats", and want you to collect them for him.

Run around Saldean's Farm (54,32). Those bags of Oats spawn around buildings, fence, or even right next to the NPC. So just circle around.

Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. Killing those Watchers just allows you to cut corners, that's all.

Quest given to me as a Level 10 Hunter. Not sure why it's listed as a level 14 Quest...

It's an easy one to do, and should be done first as you scout the zone. Just make sure you're in 3rd person view, pulled back, for the widest range of view. If you get aggro, run. The feed bags are scattered around any of the farms in northern Westfall, and can be anywhere near the building, in a copse of trees, etc. There are sometimes more than 1 per farm. Move your cursor across items as you get near them, and look for the gear icon.

Did this at level 12... Gained 1250XP which pushed me into 13 (woo!) as well as an increase in Stormwind faction.

For a NE with no tailored item, these are pretty good items to get. No twinking, thus glad to have some extra space until I can upgrade. Four slot might be stingy, but when you have no extra slots, four is better than none. Just like in EQ2... Having a bag of some form is better than none at all.

Bag of oats is pretty easy to obtain near the Saldean farm, or the fields if you go in while someone is hunting the harvesters, or if you are hunting them yourselves.

Go to the farm with the tree windmills. You will find several oatbags. Just wait until they pop when you got them. (look in the burned house for the compass quest. Its in the chest.

Having herbalism does not make the oats show up on the map. By chance there is an herb next to the bag of oats in from of the farmhouse.

The oats spawn rather quickly after one lap around the field the first bag was ready to be opened.

This quest is a &*!@#. I died 8 times trying to complete it tonight, ended up with 3 oats.

Tomorrow, I'm going back to the only "safe" spawn I found, and I'm camping it. Just gonna wait it out.

I'm only a Rogue 12, so maybe that's why I'm having problems, but damn, this one shouldn't be this hard.

At least the bags spawn in the same spot though - go 'open' one, get your oats, go kill a few monsters, then go back and do it again. For example, there's one that spawns beside a small shed between a barn and a tiny house used in the pocketwatch quest. (the barn is used in some other followup quest I believe)

Yes, definitely a slow quest, but no slower than the tiem spent on some of the 'runner' quests.

The bags of oats are ground spawn. Look for a burlap sack on the ground all over the Westfall area, but often right near a building and/or mob spawn point. Right click to open like most ground spawn, loot.

I've seen them near the gnoll tents, next to farmer houses, and even near sheds and trees.

anyone else think that having a 4 slot bag and 9 armor back for a reward at the level you have to be to safely get the oats is idiotic? I mean, come on, make it worth our while for doing and make the bag 8 slot at least! Maybe have to choose between a back with more armor and the bag......but 4 slots? I just use it as vendor trash.

These oat bags are everywhere, but if you just enter Westfall as a lowly level 11 or 12 or so, you can just run around that first farm and grind mechanical scarecrows, Defias, and vultures and such and you'll grab them as they spawn on the farm or near that first house just off of the road.

and didn't have to omuch trouble with this quest. I actually enjoyed it really. I got some good exp out of it, though I do not remember what it was. I did it with the pocketwatch quest as well as the deed quest that I got killing bandits next to the Stormwind City Gates.

Had all 3 done in less then 15 minutes.

I don't remember which farm is it, but it's the one that you get the quest to kill 20 Gardener Mechanical thingies, and that farm had like at least 5-6 sacks of oats spawns, and during finishing the quest of 20 slays I bagged out 8 sacks of oats with no trouble at all, and I was killing the mechanicals at about the same rate they spawned, so it took me about 20 minutes or so for BOTH quests. I was a level 14 Rouge at the time and had no trouble whatsever and never got beyond 30% of my health while pawning the mecahnical thingies almost without any rest in between (The oats gathering was actually done while resting a bit before attacking the next one, so I planned the attacks based on the oats spawning in the field as I go).

I did it only for the exp, since the sack was vendor trash to me eversince I first got to Westfall at about 10, since I knew I won't waste a bag slot on a 4 slot bag, what am I, 5? the back wasn't really appealing at 10, and of course it was rightforward useless at 14.

But then again, I don't really think Blizzard likes to give container quests at logical levels.
This is a level 9 quest that gives a 4 slot container, there's one like it that gives 4 slot at the 7th level (barelly usefull), and the horde get a 6 slot KODO HIDE BAG recepie via a quest at LeatherWorking 40! that's about level 12-15 as I see it, and you don't even get the ingredients then, since the Mobs you need to kill for the hides are even higher.
In Auberdine it takes a 13(!) level quest, and only on the 4th end of it (4 induvidual quests) to get a measlly 6 slot bag, and the next I saw for a poor NightElf goes at Menethil Harbor, a 10 slot at a level 25 quest.
No Blizzard could care less about actually letting us use quest earned containers, they rather MAKE us use the game economy. Well guess what, 6 slot Linen Bags cost about 1Silver to make (If you count the cloth in a logical rateforcoin) for tailors, and they sell to the merchant for 2. That's right, MORE then this one sold to the merchant and more then the brown one sells. So tailors CAN
make a profit out of just making them and selling them to the merchant, and players SHOULD buy those from them, since It's the most sure investment they get in the game, you can always resell it to a player and worse case, the merchant variant isn't that bad.

Now why did I ever get to this point? Ahh, who knows...

If there was an award for "Most Stupid Quest of the Game", this quest would probably be the winner. So poor old Blanchy is hungry and needs eight handfuls of oats? Fine, why not get them out of the first sack you find and be done with it? No, you have to go and collect the eight handfuls from eight different sacks. Absolutely idiotic! Blizzard should come up with a better story why one has to find eight different sacks. Suggestion from me: Add a sentence like "Don't take more than one handful of oats from each sack you find, else the farmers will notice they have been robbed" to the speech of Verna Furlbrow.

This one is a real pain in the butt because the sacks of oats don't make sense at all.

When they do spawn in an area that makes sense (near a farm house), they only spawn 1 or 2 at a time... It takes make many tries to get all the required oats.
