Ok... so here's the deal:

get the mage quest from mage trainer in org.

find tabetha. 46,57 dustwallaoroo (i fergit the name, fly to camp taj then book it southeast)

get new quests.

go to shimmering flats, talk to dude by the race track (read yer quests!). find the chicken, he's by the race tower. go back to tabetha.

go to arathi highlands. go to the far east side by the lake, kill the trolls and git yer stix! (read the letter she gives you)

go to circle of outer binding (bring a friend if yer low 30 like me) use the sticks in the center rock, open the rod, get the thingy inside of it.

buy a Jade. borrow a jade. steal a jade. just git yer hands on a jade.

go to SM (trisfal glades, northeast of undercity.)
get a crew together and rox the library. in the long hall before the boss there is a book you can open on the wall. do it. git yer book fer tabetha.

go to tabetha. git yer wand.
you have a choice. frost, arcane, fire...

these are VERY similar to your talent trees... maybe you should choose the one that you have the MOST POINTS IN your talent tree...

mages pwn. so did this quest. challenging is good. the wand is good. all you other losers are ebay wow's and don't know jack about the l33tness that is a mage.

This quest gives 3 great wands for its level, and they will serve you well for quite a few levels. They either boost your +fire, +frost or +arcane damage.

The quest is not hard to do, but finding the quest giver can be quite difficult, who is located in the middle of Dustwallow Marsh, a level 45 zone. If you keep frostnovaing, popping up mana shield, blinking etc, however, you should be fine.

The quest series start at your mage trainer at level 30, so go speak to him/her. Don't miss this quest, I see lots of mages at level 40 who use worse wands because of this.

I got the quest, A Journey to the Marsh, from the Mage trainer in Stormwind at level 30. The quest is to basically talk to Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh.&nbsp She is only a short distance due north from the "E" in Stonemaul Ruins on the map.&nbsp Once there, she gives you two quests, Hidden Secrets and Items of Power.&nbsp Both are fairly easy to complete solo if you so choose. Hidden Secrets is the first of three quest you must do.&nbsp The second is Get the Scoop and the third and last one is Rituals of Power.&nbsp The last one, Rituals of Power is the hardest of them all requiring you to find a group to go into Scarlet Monastary, which is extremely hard for a level 30 mage!&nbsp However, thanks to my guild, this was possible.&nbsp Once all the quests are done, head back to Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh and turn in the quests "Rituals of Power" and "Items of Power".&nbsp She will then give you a final quest, Mage's Wand, which you can immediately turn in to Tabetha for you wand.&nbsp

I was confused by this chain and the one that leads to 'Celestial Power', so I posted here and under that quest to differentiate which quests go with which chain. Thotbot helps a little, if you were as confused as I was. This quest chain gets you a choice of one of 3 wands at the end - see above.

First, there's a quest that leads you to Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh - it starts with the mage trainer in Ogrimmar for Horde, and is just like the Alliance-side 'Journey to the Marsh' listed here. Tabetha is on an island southeast of Brackenwall Village in Dustwallow, almost to the coastline. For Alliance, Tabetha is almost due west of the docks in Theramore, but it's tough to get to her from the bay because of the low- to mid-40's mobs in the water. It's easier to go up and around (partway on the road) because the mobs are lower level (high 30's). Tabetha's hut is due north of the 'EM' in Stonemaul Ruins on the Dustwallow map.
2. Tabetha gives you 'Hidden Secrets' quest to go get a book by talking to Magus Tirth at the racetrack in 1000 Needles Shimmering Flats.
3. Tirth gives you 'Get the Scoop' quest to talk to his 'assistant', Plucky Johnston, who is a chicken. As posted here in that thread, /beckon the chicken and he will become a human, talk to you and send you back to Tirth. Tirth will tell you to get the book Tabetha wants from Scarlet Monastery Library ('Rituals of Power' quest). See the thread here for location of book in SM. Take the book back to Tabetha.
4. Tabetha gives you 'Items of Power' quest - if I remember correctly, you can get this quest together with 'Hidden Secrets' and the 'Infernal Orb' one. For 'Items', kill Witherbark trolls in SE Arathi til you collect 10 Troll Sticks - these drop off any 31-35 troll there. The quest doesn't tell you to get 10 but that's what you need. Take them to the Circle of Outer Binding, with the air elementals, and clear to the center stone. Right-click the sticks in your bag while you are next to the stone, and a lightning rod pops up on the stone. Pretty soon you get the gear-wheel icon, so open the rod and get your Bramble, then take it back to Tabetha with a jade.
5. After you have done both 'Items of Power' and 'Rituals of Power', Tabetha gives you the 'Mage's Wand' quest, where you pick one of the 3 wands above.

This quest chain is separate from the chain that leads to 'Celestial Power', where you get a nice off-hand item or a staff. In that chain, you have to kill the Obsidian Sentinel in Uldaman - see my other post under that quest for a summary.

I did these quests with help from a 70 friend, achieving the wand at lvl 30. I was also able to make it fairly easy to Tabetha's location both times.

Like Calminaion said, just need to follow these quests:

http://classicdb.ch/?quest=1947 (Obtained at your Trainer at level 30)
http://classicdb.ch/?quest=1948
http://classicdb.ch/?quest=1949 (3-Quest Chain)

Brought the quest's back completed, she said some stuff then bam I got the wand quest. She did some more stuff then I turned in the quest for a badass wand at level 30.

The moral of this story is, YOU CAN GET THIS WAND AT LEVEL 30.

If you haven't done the quest stop lying and making this longer!&nbsp To get the wand there are 2(yes, TWO) parts: Visiting Magus Tirth and getting his book from the Scarlet Monastery AND getting jade and charged bramble (from Witherbark Trolls in Arathi Highlands).&nbsp After you turn in BOTH quests, Tabetha will have a new quest, which solely involves waiting 2 seconds for her to make the wand then you pick which you want.&nbsp There is no fighting involved after turning in the quests, fighting the elite demon from the orb is a different mage quest, and yes, it is a mage quest, though there is a similiar warlock quest.

There are a few key elements that people are overlooking here..&nbsp Like anyone, I have done a quest and thought, "now why the hell did I waste my time doing this?"&nbsp But a bit later on down the line, I have discovered that doing some of those *seems like you wasted time quests* ended up beneficial in the end...&nbsp This quest essentially broadens your known territories, flight paths etc.&nbsp Reveals some truly quick and fast leveling quests on the way, and of course makes you depend on other classes at some points to help you complete it...&nbsp It is essentially a way to improve your character as a mage...&nbsp For those of you who don't care about that, well -- "It is a waste of YOUR precious time..."

FIRST OF ALL
u get 2 quests from Tabetha after u hand in the quest u got from a mage trainer.
FOR 1 quest u have to goto arathi highlands and kill witherbark trolls around boulder gor, after awhile (2hours -_-) u get 10 totem sticks, which u take to the circle of outer binding, where u go to the stone, and u have to use the sticks in the inventory! dont click the stone over and over again saying why this doesnt work.&nbsp
AND THEN goto an auction house and purchase a jade if u dont have one!
NOW GOTO desolace, there is a place where there are&nbsp a buncha demons, infernals, and then these shadowcasters, im not sure how much they drop but U NEED TO GET THE INFERNAL ORB, just one of them.
NOW head back to Tabetha, and then she will goto her beautiful garder then summon a lvl 40 elite demon, so u probably need help in that! THANK GOD

I just finished the quest at lvl 33 and got my wand.&nbsp She then gives you a quest to kill a demon in desolace to get an orb.&nbsp This is a mage quest, for some of you that keep saying warlock.&nbsp However, it is after getting the nice little wand reward.&nbsp You dont have to kill an "elite demon" to get the wand.&nbsp Just do as mike above wrote out.

OH btw, you HAVE to do the SM part where you get the ritual book before you can get your wand.&nbsp As stated in her quest text, she needs that to know how to make it. :) Good luck :)

The "up to x" language takes into consideration the fact that most spells don't get full +damage bonus from gear (or talents).&nbsp Fireball gets a full 100% it's big and slow Scorch and Fireblast get about half because they're really fast spells Frostbolt gets 82% because it's reasonably fast and snares CoC, Arcane Explosion, and so on get less than that because they're AoE...anyway, you can find this information somewhere else.&nbsp The point is, the bonus is always the same - for each spell.&nbsp

&nbsp now i did this quest a little late cause i already had an awesome wand (which i rarely use anyway) and just wanted to sell wand to vendor for mount money. but i noticed that these guys also drop items needed for other quests. so combine them with those and go to the camps outside the cave. work ur way into the cave for the dagger drop for another quest, the sticks dropped better near the cave. the jade dropped no problem, maybe i was lucky, plus there is a third quest that can be combined here as well.
&nbsp the other two quests i dont remember the name of but one was picked up at the refugee camp for sure. they clearly involved killing witherbank trolls. horde camping kept me from doing these on time over the holidays so i lvld and came back, combined all then did grinding in the cave. till i was done i hit 35.
&nbsp i took a feral druid at lvl46 with me to the circle and we only took out the elementals nec. to make a path to the circle then cleared inside the circle. i figured this way i dont have to worry if horde showed up, the wand does take a while to finish but when done, it was retrieved by ur normal loot window. elementals do respawn fast.
&nbsp so take a group if u do this on time and wipe out several quests at once. hope someone else can post the other quests after me for ya. combining saved alot of time on this and took care of the xp problem everyone worried about.

Guys.. I have a lvl40 mage alt atm and i didn't bother doing mages quests cause I heard rewards sux.. However, when I've seen this reward, i immediatly wanted to do it.

The dmg of the wand is bonus, as a mage, you don't wand often, you want to kill fast, you want to lvlup. I have almost only +dmg equipement right now, +100ish~, my rank 7 fire ball does 430-490 and crits for 680-720~ + 250 ignite dmg.

Every stats are the same, if you don't focus on it, it sux.

Of course their are wands that do better dps.. so what ? if you face me, you gonna wand me to death ? lol No, you want stats~

Is this a case of if you are:

Fire mage: Pick Nether or Ice
Frost mage: Pick Fire or Nether
Arcane mage: Pick Fire or Ice

To complement the fact that certain mobs will resist your preferred spell types?

Like a fire mage farming Essence of Fire in Un'Goro is gimped because the Elementals are immune to the heavy hitting fire based spells?

The only thing arguing against that is the plus to damage for that school of magic per wand.

What are your thoughts?

If you are a fire mage, why would you pick the one that adds frost spell damage? You clearly have no idea, so i rated you 1 for being dumb.
Very simple. Like the earlier poster said. If you are a fire mage and farming fire elementals or a mob with high fire resistance, you are pretty screwed. When choosing a wand, I prefer to pick a damage type that is different from my main stuff. For a mage tbh I'd go for a shadow wand because that is a damage type we do not do. As a priest I would have picked a fire/frost or arcane wand for the same reason.

The original poster's point is valid. The guy I quoted at top is dumb because he does not see that specialization is for insects (and insects are easily crushed). Although my aspiring mage is picking talents in the fire tree, bonuses to frost magic are always handy. I see the counterpoint that if you predominantly use fire then something that boosts fire damage is beneficial, but if you are a fire mage that uses no frost magic, then you must die lots (like every time you pull bigger mobs than you intended). What is +9 with fire spells against a beasty that is fire resistant? 9 lots of nothing is what it amounts to.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong. But the guy who said 'you clearly have no idea' is clearly a gimp who has carved his build into a very small niche. Greatly lacking the versatility required to effectively combat any situation.

Generally I agree with the concept of 'boost your primaries', but for all round builds to be poopood as n00b strategy is clearly out of order.
