The following areas provide footlockers that can be used to upgrade Rogues' lockpicking abilities.

Hillsbrad Foothills - Durnholde Keep
Redridge Mountains - Lake Everstill
Ashenvale Forest - Zoram Strand
Stonetalon Mountains - Windshear Crag and Associated Mines
Wetlands - Murloc Camps
Desolace - Sar'theris Strand
Badlands - Angor Fortress
Swamp of Sorrows - Pool of Tears
Searing Gorge - The Slag Pit
Tanaris Desert - Lost Rigger Cove
Azshara - Bay of Storms
Eastern Plaguelands - Tyr's Hand (elite

Keep inmind that you will want to lockpick in the area that is current for your level if possible. if for example if you are 50th and your lockpicking is 100 you will need to go back to some lower level areas and then work your way up to the more difficult. hope this helps.

This location is very easy to find using the coordinates: 52,45.

If you stand at a particular spot. You have the ability to unlock 4 of the five Practice Lockbox's there. (Screenshot Provided).

Just in case. The words "Practice Lockbox" will ALWAYS be yellow. The word "Locked" changes colors the way Ebonstar says.

You should stay there with the practice boxes until you cannot level your picking skill anymore (when the word "Locked" becomes gray).

The boxes respawn very quickly, and sometimes they are booby-trapped. ( I had the Frost Hold Magic trap. )

I was able to gain 101 skill points from this location. I went there with a skill level of 4 and left there with a skill level of 105. Not Bad - Now I go back to the Zoram Strand!

There are numerous creatures outside. But you do not have to worry about them coming in to attack you (at least I did not have to). My stealth was good enough to walk past all creatures - INCLUDING horde. So it is possible to make it there without a fight. In case you are just trying to get your picking skill up.

Good luck,
~Lie

The next picking area for me was:

Duskwood Chest

So it was no hassle getting higher skill. All I had to do was kill the one spawn every time it showed up. I got to open the chest several times before he showed up. After that, I went to Desolace - in Kalimdor:

Area of Lockboxes

The pins are not the actual lockbox locations. But it is the area you should be in. Just be sure to bring something to breath under water with, as the boxes are ALL underwater, and you should have the ability to kill a level 33 mob.

I am now level 46, and my picking is maxed at 230. The Desolace boxes are still green for me and only take about 4 to give me one skill point.

At a 230 skill level you can open most of these on the list:

Junkboxes
Battered Junkbox - 1
Worn Junkbox - 75
Sturdy Junkbox - 175
Heavy Junkbox - 250
Strong Junkbox - 300

Chests
Battered Chest - 1
Small Locked Chest - 1
Burial Chest - 1
Primitive Chest - 20
Large Iron Bound Chest - 25
Duskwood Chest - 70
Reinforced Locked Chest - 75
Sturdy Locked Chest - 125
Ironbound Locked Chest 175
Large Mithril Bound Chest - 175 (Within Uldaman)
Large Mithril Bound Chest - 250 (Found in: Blackrock Spire, Dire Maul and Stratholme)
Bound Fel Iron Chest - 300
Wicker Chest - 300
Bound Adamantite Chest - 350

Lockboxes
Ornate Bronze Lockbox - 1
Heavy Bronze Lockbox - 1
Iron Lockbox - 70
Strong Iron Lockbox - 125
Steel Lockbox - 175
Reinforced Steel Lockbox - 225
Mithril Lockbox- 225
Thorium Lockbox - 225
Eternium Lockbox- 225
Khorium Lockbox - 325

I'm on the Mannaroth Server, and I very rarely see any Horde there. For that matter, I rarely ever see Alliance there either. Plus, you're under water.

The certificate is to hang on the wall and show everyone that you are a certified klepto.....won't your mother be so proud!...but seriously, it is just a certificate, you don't use it for anything.&nbsp The purpose of the quest is to get you trained up in lock picking so you are able to use the skill for the other quests to come that involve picking locks.&nbsp The very next rogue quest involves picking a lock in the tower in SE Westfall.

Now Alther's Mill is down the road east of Lakeshire. Follow the road east from Lakeshire till you come to a fork in the road, head down the right path (dirt path) Watch out for the lvl18-20beasts. The mill should be a building with a big saw in the middle.

At Lvl 16 the maximum lockpick skill you can get is 80, so practice on the locks till you get 80.Your maximum lockpick skill increases by 5 every time you gain a level

The reward he gives you is useless and can be destroyed or put in the bank. It has no furthur use so its trash.

In the room is a box marked "Lucias's Lockbox".&nbsp There's also a number of practice locks.

Use the practice locks until you reach level 75.&nbsp Once you reach about 25, you will never fail again.

Once you reach 75, you can open Lucias's lockbox.&nbsp I'm stil not sure what the certificate is for, but I got 1550 XP for finishing the quest.

Go to Lakeshire

*Ironforge < Stormwind < Lakeshire, Or if you havent been there yet, Follow the road East of Goldshire until you come across it*

Head north up a path for about 10 seconds, then turn Right on a dirt path, Walk a little and you should see what looks like a lumber mill, there are about 6 pracitce lockboxes there. They keep respawning too, They should get you to at least 100 lockpicking in 5 - 10 minuites

The lockboxes here let you go up to skill 90 lockpicking easy, after 90, I picked locks about 10-20 times without getting skill, they were still green though, but still nothing. This is by far the best way to get some decent lockpicking skill.

You need ZERO lockpicking to do this quest - it is intended to help you start your lockpicking!

When you pick up the quest, he gives you a set of thieve's tools.

Take them to 51,45 and practice on the practice lockboxes there for a few minutes until you max your skill on them (they respawn instantly, so it's a VERY efficient way to skill up). Anyone who practiced lockpicking before doing this quest just wasted their time/energy.

Once you get your lockpicking high enough, simply open the chest (same location) and complete the quest. You can finish it with as little as 25 skill, but spend 10 mins here and you can get your lockpicking up to about 75-100, and it will be time well spent.

Pretty simple, you pick the locks here at 51,44.
I stood between the 2 first ones to the right and just kept clicking between them, took me 10 minutes to get to lvl 80.&nbsp Even if you get hit with frost nova or rat nova, it is irrelvant, you just keep picking and it wont effect your skill lvl, it wil lkeep raising.&nbsp As to the guy who is in darnassus, Pay a mage 50 silver to port you to IF, from there get the FP then tram it to SW, you can run to RR from there.&nbsp As far as lvling is concerned, its easier to lvl on that continent then Darn anyway.&nbsp

OMG! I thought you had to go to 100 for the box, I was like "... God damnit!" So I kept constantly doing it, 1-70 Easy 70-80 Pretty Easy 80-90 Medium 90-100 Very difficult (for practice locks). Getting from 91 to 92 took me like 30 tries, lol. I only managed to get to 92 and was like "You know what... Im gonna just try to unlock the quest box." And of course, I opened it (easily :P) Then I went back to this page and saw someone say "For box to be opened, you have to have skill lvl 25. I was like "oh..."

lmao, so I hope you all know what to do now (for sure.)&nbsp

I leveled up from 5 to 100 (my max for my XP level) on these boxes. Once inside the mill, I was never attacked and was able to focus on just lockpicking.

By standing in location on the screenshot, I was able to pick 4 lockboxes without having to move which was nice. This was especially handy around level 65, which is when the lockboxes went green, because from then on it took multiple boxes to level up.

By the end, it took about 20 boxes to get from 99 to 100. The boxes were still green at 100, but I had maxed out my level, so there was no point in continuing.

Y'know that since the guys lockbox that you need to open requires a skill higher than level 1 to open and the others dont, you can build yourself up even more if you use that one when the others go grey. You might even be able to build yourself up faster just repeatedly picking that one when the others go GREEN...this would have to be done before you turn the quest in though, as you would need to constantly destroy the item that you loot in order to pick it again...kind of a hastle, but it might be easier than going to the next picking area.

The mill is just north of Lakeshire off the main road, first right (east) at fence, sneak past spiders and you are there. I got up to lvl 72 without being interrupted once, although found myself alternately in an ice block and in rat form. When another rogue showed up to practice I was interrupted all the time, so try to get the place to yourself. I lvld to 90, but opened ten more boxes without lvling further, 1550xp for a lvl 18 rogue. Lucius's box turned yellow at 50 and green at 75 for me. Good luck.

I started training on practice lockboxes at lvl 1. At lvl 25 opened Lucius's lockbox then continued training till lvl 100. That's it. So you DON'T NEED lvl 75, or 50... readin these posts confused me since I was only lvl 1 was afraid I can't do the quest ... from lvl 80 to 100 training is going slower and at 100 it stops.

For those who uses Cosmos,
it's located at 52, 45

You'll find the mill on your way down from the NE to SE path but beware of Orcs and dragons and other mobs.

Best way in is to Stealth you way into the mill and practice lock picking.
Occassionally, you'll get Frist Nova'd or Rat Nova'd from the lock traps. Just keep preatcicing until the quest box goes orange instead of red.
