Down the Scarlet Path

Destroy 30 Undead Ravagers, then return to Brother Anton at Nijel's Point.
  •
Undead Ravager slain (30)

Description

I will be frank. We are at war with the Scourge. It is an evil that corrupts our people and infects our land. It must be stopped before it overwhelms us and drags our world into shadow. We of the Scarlet Crusade have sworn to fight the Scourge with body and soul.

If you are with us, then gather your courage and prove your allegiance--destroy the undead ravagers of Desolace, in the Valley of Bones to the south.

Do this, and the Crusade will embrace you.

When the game was first released, the Necromancers used to be named Magram Necromancers, but since some people wanted to choose Magram, they made them just Outcast Necromancers. If you have spell cast bars, you can still see the spell named "Summon Magram Ravager" when they summon an Undead Ravager. Quick fix on Blizzard's part, but missed a small piece )

There are two entrances.

- Shadow resistance - High (note this shadow priests)
- Immune to bleed effects (Rip for druids etc)
* I recently found that they had changed the immunity of bleed effects while leveling my rogue. Seems they can now take Bleed dots etc, GG :)

Your best bet is to stay on the rocky hillside to avoid any pats on the dirt road below.

The next part of the quest (Down the Scarlet Path) will lead you to Southshore, Hillsbrad to speak to Raleigh the Devout. He is upstairs, inside of the Inn. Go up to the second floor, he's in the last room on the right.

@ 10,000 exp rewarded.

Do this quest with the "Strange Alliance" quest since killing the skellys raises your Gelkis faction but it also lowers your Magram faction.

Good luck doing this quest at level 34 as anything but a Paladin.&nbsp As a level 36 hunter accustomed to soloing mobs 4+ levels above me, I found the level 37-38 skeletons to be rather tough.&nbsp 1 on 1 the fights were lengthy and often required similarly lengthy downtime, something I am not accustomed to fighting anything else.&nbsp Unless your class has abilities to help with undead, I'd recommend not doing this until level 37-38.&nbsp It's possible to do it before then, but it's a pain.

I am a level 37 shadow priest, and these mobs are 37-38 melee. These undead ravagers are a pain for a caster to kill. I have been interrupted by their 'kick' as many as 7 times in one fight, and they hit hard enough that Ineed to use Power Word:Shield contnuously. Even then, I haveto re-cast PW:S as many as 5 times a fight, because they chew through the 383 point shield in as few as 5 hits.

I think this quest requires lvl 34 to get, and it leads to a quest with OWNAGE weps.
The undead ravagers are just west of one of the centaur villages, the one with the big ponds. the entrance to the valley if a big arch with a bir red banner on each side. the undead themselves are lvl 37-38, and for me, a lvl 37 warrior, get me down to 3/4 health each fight, even with a sheild. Wandering around thir area is a lvl 39-40 centaur mage, which isnt with any village so its always aggro to u. the map doesnt say where the valley is, so see the map which niz0 posted. the skeles are spaced well though so (if ur my lvl) when i charge them i only get one (the one i charged) onto me. :P
the co-ords are /tloc (64,80).

Hope this helps!

I managed this thanks to several points above that were really important to me:

1. I would never have found this place without the map screenshot and the description of the big red banners outside. This was my first trip to Desolace, and I would not have expected to go ALL the way south from the quest text.

2. The only way I could do this as a level 37 mage, without dying, was by keeping close to the entrance and away from the patrollers. The respawn rate really is fast enough to take on one at a time at a reasonable pace, with time to regenerate health and mana (sometimes down to half, sometimes pretty intact, depending on whether an opening frostbolt froze them in place or whether their attacks on my mage froze them in place, or whether they got to get close and hit enough to stun - they hit hard. My spec and style, best I could do was frostbolt, uninterruptable arcane missiles, frost nova, back up, repeat, unable to repeat frost nova until they were killed by more arcane missiles, fireblasts, and the occasional fireball - but they interrupted the fireball a LOT in close quarters).

3. The other posts are SO right about avoiding the patrollers. My one death was when I went in too far and a patroller found me at half health. I used counterspell when they started casting, and oops - if you play a mage, save counterspell to block their summoning another mob. I couldn't handle 2 at once, at least not without being at full health and having some potions around. Maybe mana shield and evocate, but I couldn't evocate when I really had to because I spent a lot of time stunned and unable to cast.

The quest is worth it because it leads to a trip to Hillsbrad, where you get all the Scarlet Monastery bosses as quest targets. And fun, because the diatribe from the Scarlet Monastery emissary when you complete the quest is rather amusing. For me it was also nice because I got a scenic tour of the whole eastern side of Desolace.

This area is full of level 37-38 skellys that you have to kill. They have fear protection. But they are easy to kill, they don't wander very far and their respawn timer is on the slow side. The level 39 necromancers that walk around might give you some trouble, they patrol the little valley. Contrary to the comment above, you DO NOT lose reputation with Magram. I've killed over 30 of these, including the necromancers, and have lost no reputation.

These enemies, for their level, are not much harder than anything else.

I was able to solo the quest with my lvl 34 hunter. Half way through, I leveled to 35. It was tough, but going back again later to help another person with the quest at lvl 37, it was pretty easy to solo one. :)

Maybe it depends on your type of hunter. Mine was all ranged, no skills in melee or pet at the time.

But honestly, I wouldn't bother with this until you're 35. You won't be able to begin the second part of the quest until you are 35 anyway. )

As a lvl 37 mage, i thought that this was a fair quest for my lvl. i got a lot of xp just from killing all of the skeletons, and got 3000 xp at the end for turning it in. it was fairly easy for me, even though other people were around, including one horde who was nice and we left each other alone. there were plenty of skeletons around, they seemed to respawn fairly quickly for the amount of people around.

you will find this area around 66,89 or so. you will clearly see the area because it begins with a big archway with red flags or something like that. just go way south in desolace past the magram village.

Undead Ravagers are spaced far enough to allow single pull. The respawn rate is quite high also, so if you do not feel going too deep inside the valley, just farm the respawns near the entrance.

I think someone mentioned above, there are mages (or maybe warlocks) patroling the road once in a long while. So watch out for them. The mages are 39-40, very easy to kill. Just don't aggro the undead and the mage/warlock.

Map LOC is 64:18. MOB lvl's are 37-38. Obtained at lvl 34. If you can solo a 38 these 38's are slightly harder than the norm due to they kick constantly and are immune to bleed effects. They hit for 35-55 dammage and I clocked them doing 25-26 DPS. As a lvl 34 Rogue I required help, as a lvl 34 Warlock with a 35 Shadow Preist we ruled the playground and as a lvl 34 Warrior completed solo but had to potin for rage on the lvl 38's with the warrior to out crit them. My 34 warrior is buff though. Weilds the whirlwind 2H sword enchanted crusader and added +6 dammage per sharpening stone. All his armor is of blue quality. The warrior died once on the way, due to 2 lvl 38's and 1 lvl 40 MOB that I agro'd running by them and once leaving cuz I got robbed by a big crit from the 38 at the door as a goodbye kiss. Completed this quest within an hour. After the 30 kills, quest turned in and letter delivered to South shore my warrior gained nearly 7 EXP bars as the result of all the EXP having rested bonus. By doing this quest you can get the quest in Southshore for Scarlet Monestary instance NW of Undercity.

Listen, all you have to do is stay on the left side as you enter the valley of the bones, stay up in the rock's and pull them to you, I am a lvl 38 mage & had no trouble what so ever. In fact I never even left the rocks by the entrance area, they re-spawn rather quickly, so I worked my way down the left side, killed them as I went, and would just back track and start from the entrance again! Took me about an hour from start to finish!

Pretty hard to solo for a level 34 Warlock. They are immune to fear and shadow spells don't hit all that good, also they got a decent attack speed that interupts your casting, and they can kick.

If you use the voidwalker, let it build some aggro, and when you draw the aggro from the mob (which you eventually will without a demonology build at least) use Sacrifice. The shield will hold long enough for you to finish off the mob.

The valley in question actually makes a bend, you can enter it from the east side of Mannoroc and exit to the north or enter from the north and exit to the east. Each end is marked with a very large entry gate. Once inside, you will get a discovery message saying you have discovered the Valley of Bones.

Incidentally, there's a quest in Stormwind leading to this guy. It's not a pre-req, but one of those quests that says "Hey, go here and help this guy out". You know the type.

Anyways, the quest giver is in the Cathedral in Stormwind. Head straight in, and take the right passage towards the rear of the main room, but before you get to the dias. Should see the guy right there, with the title of <Scarlet Emissary>, or something similar. Sorry, forget his actual name. The quest name is, appropriately enough, Brother Anton. Don't know rewards, haven't headed to Desolace yet. Probably just minor exp.

This is a nice easy one to SOLO providing you do it carefully. At no point push it and take the skeleton ravengers one at a time....make your way slowly down the alley taking them out one by one. Be aware ..... a Centaur Necomancer walks up and down the complete length of the alley so make sure you see him in plenty of time and deal with whatever mob you have on your hands then deal with the centaur.....when you come to the ghost centaurs....head back...don't engage them as they get pulled togther. If you head back...watch for the centaur every so often over your shoulder. IF YOU die as a Warlock in the alley you are going to be in a world of hurt. The spawn rate means by the time you come back all the mobs will have respawned and there's no-where to safely ress and call a pet. you'll just need to run and die...run and die...until you're out of the alley. That's a real downer as it takes ages....the graveyard is miles away. When you ress you'll vever be healed enough or stong enough to buy yourself time to bring a pet online. :( However if you follow the rules, stay calm...you'll easily do this....in fact you'll get bored. Doing 30 is simply no fun.

If you want to pull or need a place to rest, on the East bank of the canyon, you can make ur way up fairly quickly and to a safe distance. There are cenaturs on top, but at least for me they were not hostile. Also a great place to pull to, since it gets you out of the way of everything else down there.
