Use the key to open the Intrepid's Locked Strongbox.
Intrepid Strongbox Key

Description

To break the curse and free all of my brethren, the...thing...stowed on my ship must be retrieved and cleansed! I don't know what it was, but I do know that it was stored securely in the ship's strongbox, which Captain Halyndor lorded over.

My old captain is still in my dreams. I know he walks my doomed ship, the Intrepid. Get the key from him, and use it to open the Intrepid's strongbox.

Then, after you have the cursed thing, bring it to the priest Glorin Steelbrow in town.

Both captain and lockbox are on the same ship.&nbsp It's the ship to the north (not the one against the shore).
Capt. is on upper aft deck (above water) and only a few mobs protect him.
Lockbox is bottom of ship toward the front.&nbsp There's a hole broken open in the side of the ship (underwater).&nbsp You can enter through that hole to get lockbox.&nbsp Lockbox is protected by many Cursed Marines.

The captain is a level 30 mob, and spawns above the hold in the eastern part of the ship. With 2-3 people a very easy kill. You can fight here withough being under water, which is nice.

After killing the captain you need to clear to the front of the ships hold to get to the chest. This is done by dropping through the hole in the deck in teh captain's room (among other access points).

We did this by pulling the mobs 1-2 at a time back to the captains room, so we could kill them there without worrying about breath issues. Once most of the route to the chest was cleared we moved to the chest, killed the last two mobs, and all looted.

Jump up forward from the water as you are facing the rudder to the ship and you can then climb up and pull the captain by himself. He has a nasty protective effect that goes off during combat that causes spells to reflect back upon the caster. The effect manifests itself as a green globe that surrounds the captain for about 10 seconds. While that is up, go easy on the casting. Otherwise he is not particularly daunting to a solo player.

This quest was wonderfully easy -- now, I will say I had the advantage because I am a druid so I used prowl to get inside the bottom of the boat... but lemme explain regardless.

First of all, coords for the ship are 14,24. The Captain is on the top floor on the right side. Go to the east side of the ship and there's a plank-type thing you can easily walk up. I didn't even prowl up there. Pulled him with Insect Swarm and he came alone. Fought him right there on the plank. Simple as pie!

Next, you need to get to the very bottom of the ship (underwater, mind you) to open the lock box. Go to the north side of the ship (swim around) and at the bottom you'll see a hole in the side of the ship. That's where you need to enter. Facing in that direction, the lockbox will be on the right, but pretty much right in front of you. To the left are two cursed marines.

If you have stealth, hang a right. You can then unstealth and carefully inch your way to the lockbox and open it without aggroing ANYONE. Then restealth and swim back out and you're home free.

If you don't have stealth, you can easily grab that first sailor. I highly doubt the second will aggro, although I have not tested this. Even if the second one does aggro, you're only facing two mobs. Hope this helps. :D

First of all you NEED the quest scrolling mod. The one that makes the quest text appear instantly. With that, no matter what class you are, you can do it.

The person you need to kill to get the key off of it on the Northern boat on the Northern side. He is level 30 but you can pull him on his own (if you walk up the plank of wood on the North side). Kill him using whatever cooldowns or items you need.

The lockbox you have to open with the key is on the same ship. Swim below the surface to the bottom (so you are touchig the ground). On the Western side of that boat, all the way to the bottom, a small chunk of the boat is missing. This is a convineant hole which you can see the lockbox through. There are far too many enemies surrounding it to kill (you may not see them because they are tranparant) but you can still do it.

Check your breath (don't want to drown). Swim in the hole (try not to get stuck on it) and get the lockbox, quickly. THE LOCKBOX DOESN'T NEED TO BE OPENED. It doesnt matter that 10 or so level 27s are smacking away at you, you wont get interupted (as there is nothing to interupt). Just right click the lockbox and keep hitting continue, complete quest or accept. When you have accepted the quest, die outside the boat (so you can ressurect).

Edit: I'll just note that I did this easily as a 27 druid without stealthing.

I did this solo last night as a level 31 pali - I am sure that a more highly skilled lower level pali can do it without dying.

1. go to the first ship and from eastern side of the ship walk into the hole and stick your head in. Then walk back out onto the clearing - so you don't agrro too many sailor or marines. By doing this you only aggro&nbsp 1 sailor and the first mate himself.

2. go to the next ship and swim around the back. walk up the rudder and take out the captain one-on-one.

3. swim down to the western side of the boat and there is a hole at the bottom of the ship. You can see the box. The box is an instant open - no time delay. There is about 10 level 27 npcs hammering you as you accept the next quest - so combo of lay on hands, health pots and protective shield needed.

As a lvl 29 Druid soloing, this is what I did...
1. Go into interface and check instant text for the quests
2. approach the second ship from the west, there is a hole in the bottom of the western hull (not a window).
3. Go into cat form, turn on prowl so none of the marines see you, went right up to the chest, change back into Elf form and click on the box.&nbsp Complete that quest...I was in such a hurry that I just completed that quest without accepting the next quest, and had to come back, so don't make that mistake.&nbsp I did die, but it was no big deal to go back and get my body.

Alright I had died trying to do this quest almost a dozen times, and yeah, was confused by the quest text at first too. The way that I completed it was by first finding the hole at the left/back of the ship then I sent my Voidwalker in (with suffering on) to draw a crowd away from the box, once he did I sacrificed him for the shield and opened the box. This is probably the most important part, have Instant Quest Text ON (under Interface Options, middle column). I had enough time to complete the quest and accept the new one before I died. After that I just ran back to my body and hightailed it back to the city. Sorry if this is unhelpful to other classes :-(

Just soloed at level 30. The key spell I used was improved arcane explosion. If you don't have that, it may be tough. Get up a couple stacks of water and some food first, and maybe even a mana agate if you want, but I didn't need it.

First, swim out to the ship and climb up the keel instead of the deck. You'll be able to pull the captain without getting his gaurds.

Next, swim down the side of the ship and through the window. THere's an airspace at the top of the mid deck, so stop there and catch your breath. Swim straight down through the hole in the floor and look towards the rear of the boat.

I counted nine guards, but they are not aggro linked as other posts have claimed. The most I ever got was two, and they're all green to you at level 30. Pull with fireball (rather than frostbolt - this way, your target and any adds will reach you at about the same time), and back up to the airspace. Frost nova them in place, and then AOE them down. I'd hit them with flamestrike while they were frozen, then finish them off with IAE.

Took me four pulls to clear them all. The respawns were slow enough that when I needed to I could swim outside and sit at the bottom of the ship's keel to eat and drink. Once they're all dead, catch your breath in the airspace and head back down to get the chest and finish the quest.

anyone who soloed this under lvl 30, i dont know HOW you did it... the actual mobs were easy to kill (except maybe the undead aggro fest round the lockbox) but everything else was HELL.
i HATED this quest.

Dunno what Blizzard was thinking... 'lets make a quest that involves a difficult-to-navigate boat, with half of it under water so you keep having to come up for air in the middle of fights! Yeah! And what else? Oh, lets turn the players into undead every few seconds, too, so they can't tell the mobs from their party members, and their pets, and they keep trying to target themselves...'

Anyhow, i just about completed it as a lvl 30 hunter with a lvl 28 pala to help. i didnt die, but the pala&nbsp did, like 5 times, and every time he rezzed something floated through the floorboards and attacked him, so he died again.

Frankly, if i make another ally char when my hunters reached endgame, i won't bother with this quest.

I did this at level 32 warlock.&nbsp

The captain is on the main deck above water.&nbsp There are 4 mobs including him.&nbsp Not too difficult to get the key.

Next step, find the lockbox.&nbsp It's underwater at the bottom of the boat with a lot of mobs, probably like 12-15.&nbsp Be careful of aggro.&nbsp Lockbox is in the middle of the ship, kind of difficult to see at first, but trust me it's there.&nbsp (This is the part I found more annoying than difficult.&nbsp I couldn't use my spells on a few of the mobs because I wasn't "in the line of sight."&nbsp Which was horse-puckey.&nbsp No matter where I moved I couldn't hit them with anything but my staff.&nbsp But I got to the lockbox and didn't die.)

This quest is totally worth it because after you open the lockbox you go talk to 2 people in towns for some killer XP.&nbsp I got over 3500 for talking to one person in Menethil and one in Stormwind.

I soloed this as a lvl 30 warlock with my succubus. First i took out all the men on the ship deck. 2 marines are in the first mob but just send you pet on one of them and then the rest works as a charm. I never had a problem with the captain so after killing him i went down and found the whole in the bottom of the ship.&nbsp Don't go into the ship because the marines can kill even when you cant see them. when in the whole my succ took all the agg so I had time to open up the chest and get the next mission before dying. then got back fast and ress and run to town. So easy this way (=

I'm a 32 warlock and I managed to get this and solo it. You just have to try to take only about 3 at a time at most, and work quickly, because the marines regerate quickly. A few health buffs helped too. It wasn't easy, but it's possible.

Did this quest as a lvl 25 Druid.
If you go up the broken mast (or whatever it is) on the back of the ship, you can aggro the captain without aggroing anyone else.
Started in cat form, aggroed the captain, when my health got low I healed with regrowth and then healing touch, back in cat form, healed again, back in cat form and killed the captain.
Go inside the ship from the north side, dont think about the marines, just open the box(it opens instantly), finish the quest, accept the next one, die, get your body and go turn it in. :)

As a mage this is one of those quests where programing is more against you than skill!

As you get close to unlock the final quest you will be attacked by at least 2 mobs if you are lucky, 6 if not! Then you will almost certainly die very quickly as they will cast a spell to reduce your effectiveness by 20%. Nothing you have can really win the day, only hope its two, kill them and hope when you are close enough you Blink in and then Frost Nova out of there!

A bit of a anti-climax for me as the running out of breath for a mage is kind of a joke in itself.

3rd worst quest so far and the other two that are equally worse are surprise underwater quests!

There weren't that many marines in the area, maybe 10. if you're lvl 30 they don't aggro quite as easily. killed two, opened lockbox, decided to open chest too. Didn't die at all. OK So I Id,d the captain by swimming close to the ship and mousing over the various marines etc once Id located him on the left hand side at the front/top of the boat swam too the rudder and walked up it. Unfortunately he saw me coming so he started battering me straight away shifted to cat form gave him a few hits then my health was very low so shifted back too druid healed myself just in time shifted back to cat form claw rip rake etc Killed him got the key.&nbsp Jumped back into water swam past the hole and spied the chest got just inside the hole close enough for the curser wheel to go yellow and clicked as fast as I could before anyone saw me. I think someone must have killed a few before I got there cos I only saw one cursed Sailor and he didnt agro.&nbsp Got the orb piece of cake swam off again.

Thats the kind of quest I like didnt even die which with me is a rareity indeed!

The lockbox is on the bottom level of the ship. It is very small so look for it hard. The easiest way to get to the lower level of the ship is to go around the South side of it and go under water and enter through the tear in the bottom of the hull. The lockbox is right inside there.
