Grim Message

Gather Witherbark Skulls and place on Nimboya's Pike. Place Nimboya's Laden Pike at one of the Witherbark Villages in the Hinterlands, then return to Nimboya in Stranglethorn.
  •
Place the grim message.
Provided Item:
Nimboya's Pike

Description

The Witherbark trolls were once allies to the Horde, but they betrayed Thrall... and that must be punished!

Here, take my pike and go to the Hinterlands, far to the north. You will find it northeast of Tarren Mill, a village held by our allies, the Forsaken.

When you enter the Hinterlands, hunt Witherbark trolls. Gather their skulls and drive my pike into the ground at one of their smaller villages, Hiri'watha or Zun'watha.

Show them their vile actions are of consequence!

Even though you pick this up in STV, the quest takes place in the Hinterlands (you get there through Hillsbrad if you haven't already). Any of the Witherbark troll villiages work. If you can't find one 29,58.

To do this quest, kill 20 trolls. There is a 100% drop rate and you'll get a Witherbark Skull. Once you've gathered the skulls (you need 20), right click on the Pike that was given to you to "Use". It'll make a new pike with the heads on it. Go inside one of the villages and right-click on the new pike and you should get your (Complete).

Most of the village areas have at least one patrol, and the way the stones and walls are setup it's hard to see soemtimes. You can easily get a pull of 3 or 4 if you're not careful. Also be advised that the alliance base is pretty close by so on a PvP server keep an eye out for alli as you'll probably see at least one or two while questing.

Quest mobs are 41-43.

The troll camp Hiri'watha is at 32,58 in Hinterlands. You need to gather 20 Witherbark Skulls (I got 1 skull from every whitherbark troll kill) and then right-click Nimboya's Pike which was provided to you from quest giver. Your toon then puts the skulls and pike together and you create Nimboya's Laden Pike. Right-click the pike inside Hiri'watha camp and quest is complete.

I did this quest entirely around one village, which is just south-east of the Alliance outpost Eagle's Nest (around coords 19-21, 55 -- sorry, didn't check while I was there).&nbsp The mobs around the village (wolves, eagles) are all range 40-42, as are the trolls you have to snuff.

It's not very hard to pull one at a time, even when you're working your way into the center of the village to plant the spear.&nbsp One useful note : the Zealots don't pull a runner when they get low on health the other trolls will.&nbsp And, final bonus, the trolls drop tons of stuff -- each one dropped at least money and a skull (skull drop rate 100%), plus other stuff like mageweave, wildvine, troll sweat, mojo, etc.&nbsp

I was rested when I did this, and the total kills plus quest XP (3450) was over 10,000.&nbsp

I just completed this quest, and when I drove the pike into the ground, it spawned right in my toon. I got stuck and couldn't move. I figured maybe some combat would dislodge me, so I hucked an axe at a nearby troll. Silly me, instead of the troll coming to fight me, he just threw axes back! Being a warrior, my ranged damage is almost nil. It was starting to look grim (haha) when after what seemed like ages the pike despawned and I was free to go kick his toll butt.

I was a little loss finding the way to Hinterlands. So for first timers you can get there from Hillsbrad Foothills, just northeast of Durnholde Keep, there is a path through the mountains that heads north. Watch out for Aerie Peak (the Alliance city), unless you feel adventurous

First, this quest is not too hard if you are lvl 40 or higher, but I had never been to The Hinterlands before and let me tell you, the path is not obvious. I confused these Witherbark trolls with the ones south of Hammerfall.

Get to Tarren Mill and then walk south-east towards Durnholde Keep. The "not-so-obvious" path to the Hinterlands begins just behind the keep (north of the Keep). It's just grass at first but as you head north it will turn into a normal path. There are two giant birds that you can sneak around to gain access to the path, I killed them and they didn't drop anything interesting.

Eventually you will discover the Hinterlands. Don't stay on the path too long, you don't want to head into Aerie Peak if you aren't Alliance. Just south-east of Aerie peak is the Witherbark village called Zun Watha. I walked right in after killing the trolls and it still didn't show onthe map. There is another village (Hiri' Watha) further on but this one will do fine. Plenty of trolls, easy enough to kill and get your 20 skulls fast. Funny thing is that the skulls didn't trigger a counter so keep an eye on your count and when you get 20, click on either the skulls or the Nimboya's Pike in your inventory (I forget which) and then it will create the Pike that you have to place. Walk just inside the village and click on the newly created Pike and it will complete the quest, then you are off to see Nimboya as stated in the quest details.

While you're in the village in The Hinterlands killing the trolls, don't forget to use the venom bottles on the table - they start a new quest sequence.

Have you trouble understanding this quest? Does it ever occur to you why it's placed under the zone called "Hinterlands"? Oh yeah, it's because you complete it in Hinterlands.

So for you mons screaming about stuff like: I can't find the place where to put the pile! I don't know where to kill the trolls? Is it in Arathi Highlands?

Read the QUEST LOG. It clearly says: you have to kill 20 witherbark trolls in Hinterlands at the ruins near when you enter Hinterlands a little south. You have to kill 20. The drop percent of&nbsp the skulls is 100% meaning you only have to kill 20. You enter one of their villages (and again, in Hinterlands, not in Arathi...) and put the stick in the middle of their village and voila! Complete.

I found it easier to go to Zun-watha.&nbsp The coord's are 26,53.&nbsp Only had to kill a couple mobs to get into the camp.&nbsp Just make sure to stand inside of it.&nbsp You don't have to go all the way in, just barely inside the walls.

I planted the pike at 24,58.&nbsp Originally I tried it in the corner close to this where I killed one troll.&nbsp It was inside the walls (actually right next to the corner of 2) and it did give the "requires...").&nbsp Don't fret if you see this, just move a little closer to the middle, it will plant.

Oh, and for those not familiar (I had the benefit of having a main who is an alliance char, so knowing where they're located).&nbsp Follow the road into Hinterlands, and when the mountains break to your right, just proceed down walking along the side of the mountains.&nbsp You won't agro the alliance from Aerie Peek.&nbsp Might want to check for wandering gaurds, made easier for me by being a hunter, so I could use humanoid trackign there.

The only thing that remains, is to walk around (don't go to) Featherbeard's Hovel, and then it's just getting threw wolves, for the most part to the first troll camp.

Its easier than it seems: go The Hinterlands and follow the path that will take you to Hiri'watha. If you don't have the skulls then here is the place to get them, but be careful as the trolls are grouped together. Once you have all 20 skulls click on the Pike and go between the entrance and turn right.&nbsp Infront of that table is where the Pike has to go (look at the photo above). Quest completed.
Do not get confused with the Witherbark Village in Arthi Highlands, read the quest carefully. Good luck!

If you're looking to get your moneys worth out of this quest you should do it in zun'watha, because you can also find a venom bottle in there that starts a new quest in hillsbrad. So two for the price of one. Seems worth it to me.

Lvl 41 warlock - did this quest this morning, after finally figuring out I was in the wrong place. It's not the Witherbark villages just south of Hammerfall (I didn't read well enough at first and wondered why I didn't get any skulls.) The run from TM and north of Durnholde Keep was fairly easy, but then again I was on my Felsteed so I could run through/by the griffons and the wolves.

Aside from having one NE Druid decide I shouldn't be there and killing me once, the quest was easy. I got those Venom bottles to start the next quest off the table, just like the others said, right around 22,55 area. You'll have to kill a couple Trolls that are hanging out by that table.
