Description

War rages both home and abroad. While mighty Dwarven soldiers give their lives in far off territories in the name of the Alliance, our own lands fall prey to the evil deeds of the Dark Iron Dwarves. They laid waste to the Thandol Span. Dun Modr fell soon after.

We need you to gather force and push the front back. If you can kill 10 Dark Iron Dwarves, 5 Tunnelers, 5 Saboteurs and 5 Demolitionists, the reserve might arrive in time to finish the drive.

Now make haste!

This is one of those "WTF?!" quests, not so much for its degree of difficulty, but because it is a prerequisite for a quest in a lower level dungeon. Before you can pick up "The Fury Runs Deep", which is to kill the level 25 (NPC #1666) in The Stockade, you have to kill thirty level 27-31 Dark Iron dwarves in northern Wetlands. By comparison, the similar quests to kill Targorr and Dextren Ward have no prerequisites at all.

Read the other reviews, but decided there had to be a better way to get Demo's without having to pry them out from the camps...

Go to the Inn at the end of Dun Modr (left hand side at the end of the valley).&nbsp There are two Demo's in the back room and another one below.... and no escorts..... plus you have to get through 3-4 tunnelers as well so you can get rid 50% of the req

...can be found in the second building on the left as you enter, which is a half-tunneled inn in the dwarven plan.&nbsp There are a few tunnelers in here, and a merchant (!), and three demolitionists.&nbsp I was able at 38 to take each without aggroing the rest, except the two in front of the merchant, where I had to vanish (as a rogue).&nbsp There's plenty of room to bandage or eat in here without further aggro, though.&nbsp There are three demolitionists in here as of today I'm waiting while I type for them to respawn so I don't have to go elsewhere for the last 2 on the list. :)

This quest is still a pain in the ass post 2.3, at least if you solo it. You may get stuck needing 3 demolitionists and in the process clearing dozens of tightly packed (and still noticably dangerous) other dorfs that you don't need, will have to PRAY that demos spawn in each little nook and cranny. Unless you're a lock with Eye of Kilrogg you can't really see what's ahead in most of the buildings without pulling it. Escape can be tough once you've cleared your way in and the respawns outside the gates are back up.

Just don't get bold thinking the 2.3 nerf is enough to solo this. Bringing a friend is advisable.

These can also be found in another encampment - Direforge Hill. The mobs are much more manageable. Coords are 63.30 (southeast of Dun Modr, along the hills). I did not run across any elite mobs in this area. I'm not sure if this encampment is new as of 2.3.

Demos - 61,27 (Belgaras the foul's here too)
All others can be killed at 48,18.

Demos are a real pain, recommend getting some friends to help you out.&nbsp Crazy amounts of low 30 elites.&nbsp All others can be solo'd if you watch your aggro.

Definitely do this quest in conjunction with the Grim Task quest - saves you the hassle of having to fight your way through the mobs a second time.&nbsp I'm a 27 pally and I grouped with a 34 lock/vw, a rogue, and a shaman.&nbsp The VW and I tanked and it worked out pretty well.&nbsp For the Demos, I would go to the camp to the east - less crowded.&nbsp

Finished in about an hour - woot!

The demolition dwarves are in camps to the east of Dun Modr and are the toughest to get because they are surrounded by at least 6 other dwarves.&nbsp Even if you work on picking off their bodyguards one at a time, the respawn rate is so fast that you don't have much time to heal and drink.&nbsp

I was in a party of 5 for this one and we killed everything except 3 demo's. As a level 28 NE hunter, I definitely need tank power on this one so I can be of use with ranged attack. Since then, I haven't been able to gather enough man power to take them on. Which is really aggravating because I only need 3 more to free up the slot. I think I'm going to have to resign myself to waiting another 5 levels or so.

amazing quest but you need a mixture.&nbsp We had a Priest and then picked up a pally&nbsp and warlock but the demos are the hardest have to go back to get two demos but they are in the inn.&nbsp Riflemen are a pain get rid of them first and then just blast through to the Inn.&nbsp Rich pickings and i levelled also.

Either wait till you ramp up quite a few levels over the quest, or get a full party of 5 to take this one on.&nbsp If you're level-appropriate, you'll likely pull 5 of them at once, so you'll need some serious crowd-control, or enough players to go 1-on-1.

..but not if you want xp. I finally finished this when I was lvl 39 with hunter char.lol. I had evereything but the demolitionists done much earlier&nbsp but couldn't take out the demolitionist.

It was easy enough to pick off the roamers around camp, but as someone mentioned earlier, the demolitionists are always grouped.

I ended up clearing out as much as I could until the&nbsp demolitionist only had two escorts to help. Took him&nbsp out suicide style then rez'd and finished off the other two. after that, I could control the spawn and at most have to deal with only 1 add.

Watch the AOE stuff, ya got enough of a crowd w/o adds.&nbsp Our group of 4 (2 tanks, hunter and healer) did quite well.&nbsp When in trouble, sprinted out of camp, healed and came back. We only died once when seemed like whole camp was aggro'd.&nbsp Demo's are a pain to say the least.

So excited to get this done..skipped it with my Warrior months back.&nbsp Basically like the others said, watch your aggro.&nbsp At our level it wasn't too bad.

Cleared the open area first, into the first house on the right, then head to the back left to get the demos.&nbsp We then cleared the yard again and by that time the demos had respawned in the back house.&nbsp You are guaranteed to get two at once in the house.&nbsp Rogue would sap one when possible, then I'd let him tank (awesome job Darril) and I layed on SW:Pain/Vampiric Embrace, wanded, healed, fade if necessary.&nbsp We could take on two at once with this method and at one time we managed three but it was very close.&nbsp Priests bring lots of juice with you and conserve mana when you can...it's a long fight in there. (PS. Castparty mod FTW)

This quest is very tough, as mentioned above, but very do-able with patience.&nbsp I just succesfully solo'd the quest with a 32 Hunter, but it was very difficult, in order to kill the demos I had to kill off everything I could around the outside, then sick my pet on the demo and just try to deal as much damage as I could to the demo before my pet died, then lay a frost trap and just kite the demo until it died and run away from the rest of the adds.&nbsp It took a lot of patience but was completed.

You will definitely need a group for this one.
My group consisted of two warriors (including me), a druid, and a mage.
I will refer to the buildings by number from left to right, one through five, if you're standing in the middle facing the center building.
The best place to find the dwarves are either roaming in front of the wooden gateway or in the middle field of the buildings. They're usually level 27 elites. Killing 15 of them may take a while since there are only 3 or 4 of them max at one time.
The tunnelers are in pretty much every building there. There is no shortage of them. These are level 27 and 28 elites.
The Saboteurs are usually in buildings 1, 2, and 5. They are elite 28 and 29.
The five demolitionists are the biggest challenge. This is because 1) They only show up in building 4, and 2) there are only two at a time and it takes a while for them to regenerate.
I wouldn't rush into building 4 too quickly, however. Three tunnelers patrol the porch and you'd have to get rid of them first. The two demolitionist appear on the staircase inside.
Chests appear in the broken box next to building 1 and in the lower level of building 4.
There is a forge and an anvil in building 3 in case you need to make something. There are fireplaces for cooking in buildings 2 and 4.
There is also an armor dealer in building 2 that has some very nice things to sell (found a good pair of chainmail shoulder pads from him).
A very nice 3350 xp bonus as a level 34 for completing it.

Team consisted of

1 Hunter 27 (pet 26)
1 Druid 26
1 Mage 27

After the first 3 pulls we decided that a full group is needed. We never died or came close put they put up too strong a fight and we gauged they it could get a bit to much inside the camp itself

I started out solo, single-pulling the Dark Iron Dwarfs out the front door of Dun Modr and killing them there...however, these guys have HUGE aggro radii (I'm a level 34 rogue, but the way), so occasionally I'd be beating on a Dark Iron Dwarf about 10 yards outside the Dun Modr gates when one (or more) of the Dark Iron Riflemen would start shooting at me from the hills on either side of the wall (from 30-40 yards away!). I was able to take 2 at a time & still have 10% or so health left, but when a third (and inevitably a fourth) joined the fight, I'd have to take a health pot and/or vanish to avoid a corpse run.

Eventually a level 31 rogue joined me, and we killed the Dark Iron Riflemen (not a quest goal...however, they respawn very slowly, so things were much easier once we were rid of them for a while). We pulled a few more Dark Iron Dwarves out the front gate & duo'd them pretty quickly...however, when we tried sneaking in & picking off a few single dwarfs wandering around, we kept drawing aggro from every other dwarf in the front half of town - and those buggers run FAST, so you don't see them coming until they're beating on you with their buddies.

Just walking too close to the front door of buildings 1, 4 & 5 (to use the numbering system invented by one of the past posters) will aggro the Dark Iron Tunneler & Dark Iron Saboteur inside (and they hang out about 15 yards in from the building entrance, down a hall & some stairs)...so definitely be careful. If you want to take on the guys hanging out on the front porches of 1, 4 & 5, I recommend pulling them with a ranged attack or aggro'ing them from outside the porch, so your 1-on-1 scuffle doesn't turn into a 3-on-1 beatdown.

A few other players joined us...our group ended up with me (level 34 rogue), the level 31 rogue, a level 28 pally, a level 26 mage, and a level 32 priest (man was I glad to see that guy...his healing skills were top-notch, I don't think I dropped below 75% health once after he joined us). With the group, each dwarf still took a surprisingly long time to die.

I gotta say, this quest was fun once we had a good group...when it was just 1 or 2 of us, it would've been extremely frustrating & damn near impossible.

Oh, each dwarf drops anywhere between 80 copper & 5 silver (2 silver seemed to be the average), and each chest had around 8s, a mid-20s green item, and bunch of food & mana pots.

Forgot to mention, either the Dark Iron Tunnelers or Dark Iron Saboteurs (or maybe both...don't remember) will light a stick of dynamite when they get down to 5-10% health. You'll see a message that says something like "The Dark Iron Tunneler's eyes glow red and he laughs maniacally as he lights a stick of dynamite," and then BOOM. The TNT doesn't hurt too much, 70-90 AoE damage tops...but it might still be a good idea to stun or pull out your big guns (a 5-point Eviscerate, or a nice, big crit) when they get down to 10% HP.

Killing the dwarves in Dun Modr is not a good idea since the town itself has countless dwarves.
So an alternative is go east of Dun Modr until you reach a place called Direforge Hill. There are 3 camps there and they are quite easy to take out, for me that is,lol.I was in a group with a lvl31 paladin and a lvl34 priest,I was a lvl32 warlock.
The camp in the centre has a warlock with a voidwalker demon(a quest target, need to kill him) and surrounded by the most powerful dwarves of the 3 camps.
Havent finished the quest yet,its a little tiresome as I need to kill the warlock, will let you know when I done it.

I soloed this quest w/ my lvl 28 rogue. Took a little longer to kill them by myself. Every once in a while had to use and pot. And needed def pots & agi pots. But if you have the right gear you DONT need a quest if you kill them at their east camp.

This is a slightly easier area to finish this quest. Head back down the road (south) and then head east (left) when you can. After passing through a raptor area, there are three encampments with all the necessary types of Dark Iron Dwarves. You'll still need help if you are high 20's low 30's, but because everything is out in the open, its a little easier to manage (no confined spaces plus plenty of room to run if necessary.) ALso, if your careful, you can work each of the camps separately without aggroing the owther camps.

We finished this quest right at the town, but definately need a group. Took us about 40 mins with a Warrior 27, Warlock 28, Priest 28, Hunter 27. The Priest definately saved the group had to res us a couple of times. Waiting for the Demo's to regen took the longest. Lot of good Exp from taking out the Elites.
