Description

In my day, I was a seasoned hunter. There wasn't any creature around that I feared. Until...

I was out in the forest, sharpening my blade after a tough battle, when I was ambushed. Harpies surrounded me, and I barely managed to drag myself to safety.

Even now, I can still hear their cries echoing...

I was never the same after that. But the hate boils inside of me -- I must get even, after all these years.

The Northspring harpies can be found to the west of here. <name>, get my revenge.

First, I am not very impressed by the directions on this one, Talo must be losing his memory.

Yes, as he says, they are found west of Mojache, but then they are also quite far north, therefore north-west would be a better description.

Follow the road west adn then north, past the Twin Colassals and just before you hit Desolace you'll see ruins on your left (westof the road). Here you will find many lovely harpies all waiting to be roasted and toasted (Okay I used fireballs). Happy Hunting.

Be sure to pick up 'Dark heart' quest before you go there, because you have to kill these harpies too, to get the horn, which you blow and kill some boss-bird -> https://classicdb.ch/quest=1629

Try not to die while you're doing this one... the nearest GY is at Feathermoon Stronghold, and combined with the maze of cliffs and trees that is Feralas, it will take you like four years to run back.

Just for the sake of specificity, the harpies can be found in the Ruins of Ravenwind - coordinates will vary depending on where you come in from, but I started around 41, 11. Just continue to follow the road is if you were heading to Desolace, as SirFracas said above, and head off the road to the left around 46, 12.

Just so you are aware, especially Horde, that the graveyard is ridiculously far away from the quest area on this quest(its on feathermoon isle). So I wouldn't suggest going alone if its PvP server and a member of the other faction happens to get you from behind, congrats, you just lost about 7 minutes. And if they camp you or something, you're screwed. Just an FYI that its a risky quest to attempt w.o bodyguards :)

As a 46 druid I decided to check out the quest and the harpies - and ended up finishing this without dying even once. I had to run twice because of a patrol. I'm currently primarily feral spec'ed and this was rather easy for me in cat form. Usually ended up with 35% hp left or more, and could easily kill the level 49 and 50 as well. Back to regular form heal up and good to go again. Took about 30 minutes or so.

Didn't find the named but didn't expect to be able to solo her anyway, plus the item reward wasn't useful for me (piece of cloth or mail, afair).

But anyway, highly doable for anyone lower if you're smart and get them solo. These harpies die quick and they flee (which can be both a con or a pro).

Take care.

I agree with the previous poster, I had this all but done with NO problems but was missing one Windcaller, I found one and I guess I was too hasty and I aggroed 2 more and died only to find my self on an ALLIANCE island graveyard (why not the one at Dire Maul it's closer).

Anyway... unfortunatly I was in the middle of a bunch of them when I died so I died shortly after I ressed... but I managed to run a bit away so when I ressed the second time (after running from that dumb island) I got the last kill and used the hearthstone - I was only level 46 when I did it so I don't mind that I died just that I had to run so freaking far.

It's practically faster to fly to Shadowprey Village in Desolace and ride your mount down there instead of riding your mount from Camp Mojache to the area and back... I thought when it said West it didn't mean all the way up Northwest...

Honestly, as a 47 Holy Priest this quest wasn't *horrible* but it was somewhat of a pain if you got bad pulls...the walk is a pain. I did get all of my harpies fairly easily, though the Windcallers seem to have a large concentration in a small area where they're in a bowl-type place. That is a *very* good place to stay away from unless you can kite them up over the ridge. (which is very unlikely with the sheer number in there.).

I did have a problem finding the roguefeathers, but I found that it was *much* easier to come up from the south, around 40,14 and kite them back one at a time over the hill there. There were two Harpies patrolling the area, but I had no problem kiting at least two roguefeathers back, then waited for a respawn.

EDIT: January 6, 2008.

While running around in Feralas with a friend earlier today, I discovered a nice shortcut back to your body if you die on this quest! The entrance to the path is around 46, 37 on the coast. It's marked by a torch and leads up to the road: *QUITE* convenient and makes the run back so much faster :) For those that don't have Co-ords, I'll put up a screenie of the path entrance.

This was a good challenge for my 46 Warlock. To get to the Harpies, one must pass through level 50 Thunderers (gorillas) and Rabid Longtooths (wolves). When they say rabid, they really mean it. Tried to slip past all the beasts by skirting the hill but was attacked by a gorllia and a wolf at the same time. My Voidwalker kept the wolf off while I killed the gorilla. Watch out for the wolves--my voidwalker got rabies and his health regen was knocked down by 50% and his strength and agility took 15% hits each. The disease lasts for 15 minutes. We were lucky enough to be near a climbable rock formation as we were both near dead with no health left and sat there at the top of the rock for fifteen minutes waiting for the disease to go away.

The harpies are not that hard to kill and as I recall are only level 48. Aggro'ed a second harpy twice during the quest and would have died had not the second harpy pulled off of me when her health got low. Mine was completly gone but that was enough for my much better off VW to go after her and keep her busy long enough for me to generate a shadow bolt. As with many other quests, working the perimeter will keep you out of trouble most of the time, but the slayers tend to stay in the pack, so you will probably have to pull one and deal with the likely second Harpy that will come with it.

Unless Blizzard implemented something where prerequesites aren't needed for overlevel questers, this isn't a prerequisite for Dark Heart, as my 54 mage is currently doing both of them at the same time.
