A Crew Under Fire

Defend Captain Vanessa Beltis, her crew and the Horizon Scout's passengers against the naga attack. Captain Vanessa Beltis must survive.
  •
Protect Captain Vanessa Beltis from the naga attack

Description

We were just off the coast looking for a safe haven to make anchor. The sun hadn't been down for more than an hour when they attacked... those damned naga!

I'm not sure what they were looking for, but it's clear they didn't find it--they've already come back once. A couple of my scouts are on watch at the entrance of the valley to give us fair warning when the next attack comes.

I'm sorry you've come along now, <name>, but it's out of my hands.

Are you ready for the fight of your life?

WORST quest ever

The quest itself is fairly entertaining to complete but doesn't reward any xp, gold, item or rep whatsoever... so a waste of time unless you're just bored.

Just make sure not to bother looking for this quest giver in order to do this.

And btw Blizz... I just finished the quest and I'm disappointed - if this is a bug please fix it, 3-4k xp is the least you can do.

STILL unfinished or something. I was doing the Asharite quest when I fell down a gap. I ressed and found this q - thought I would do it for fun and to see what reward I would get.
Horribly disappointed I didn't get anything at all - 600XP when at level cap = biggest waste of time ever.
And a waste of runecloth )
If it isn't finished, why can't they just pick some random green weapon and have that as reward or something? Or just junk the quest all together until it is done?
U can't even loot the naga!

I found these guys by accident while exploring the beaches and the quest does the same thing at lvl58. Very, very easy for a mage - just put up mana shield (frost ward helps too, but isn't necessary because they die so fast) and nova them right at the little gate where the crew is hiding behind. About 5 or so arcane explosions was enough to finish off each wave of the naga, so plenty of time between waves to refuel mana. It's disappointing that you can't loot them because soo many corpses. >_>

The final wave the crew decided not to help, so I ran far enough away to be out of combat and then went back and waited for the naga to despawn (they just stood around and didn’t attack the crew) as soon as they did I got credit for a complete quest.

She mentioned at the end to speak to other crew members (reading the other threads I found out this step is not implemented at the moment) these were the crew members I could find … none of them spoke to me, though

Second Mate Shandril – on the island watching over the debris
Roland Geardabbler – In sunken ship
Horizon Scout First Mate – In sunken ship
Horizon Scout Engineer – In sunken ship
Horizon Scout Cook – In sunken ship
Horizon Scout Crewman – 7 one on shore before the valley leading to the Captain and six more at her side.
Captain Vanessa Beltis
Patrick Mills – Fights beside the captain
Alexandra Blazen – Fights beside the captain
Lindros – Fights beside the captain

At this time, this quest is bugged. You cannot loot any of the naga, so you can't grind them for Golden Pearls.

Nothing, zip, nada after this patch either. The quest is repeatable though, my guess is some broken handle or trigger. That, or they just haven't made the rest of the quests yet.

According to Blizzard GM:

The issue reported above is not considered to be "broken" and should be
functioning normally. If you feel that the functionality should be
different, then please visit the Suggestion Forum
(http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/board.aspx?fn=wow-suggestions) and
post a suggestion. These forums are regularly monitored by the World of

It seems that this quest is functioning normal.&nbsp It just "seems" buggy to everyone but the GM.

I got lost swimming around the continent and ended up in their camp, I wandered here thinking I had missed something (lvl57 quest only 600Xp) but I guess not.
Did it twice and didn't notice the crew not helping the first time when I had help from my buddy, second time he was afk and I got stomped when the crew didnt help me (lvl 54 trying to solo 5 lvl 49 Naga).
Repeatable is ok I guess and if they really dont kill the crew and despawn at the last wave and you still get xp then its even easier because as long as the crew is helping you its easy. Only that last wave when you have to solo is hard.

Actual XP Gained: At lvl 54 I was getting 19-20xp for each naga (I was in a group of 2) 4-5 waves of 5 plus the 600 for quest complete, you should get about 1000-1200xp total for about 5-10 minutes of little work. Not too bad but still not great and would be nice if you could loot the naga that attack.

This quest is actually pretty lame. No experience other than the measly 60-80xp you get off each naga. waves include 4-5 naga and there's about 5 waves. You can't even loot the naga you killed. When you have defeated the last wave she will tell you to talk to her crew mates to recieve more quests/rewards but you can't speak to any of them.

I soloed this at 50 as a prot-speced Paladin, and I would imagine other classes who can heal would be able to do alright at the lower levels. It's a lot of work for a sum total of about 1k XP, I could just kill three things somewhere else in about a minute and a half to get the same XP, with a lot less risk.

It seems this quest is unfinished. The Captain hints at being able to talk to her crew for further quests once this quest is completed, but none of them have a thing to say.

And yes, the quest is repeatable. Very fun quest, too bad it's unfinished and so hard to get to.

Everything that comes is a 48-50 non-elite.&nbsp A 57 would easily solo it, especially since the npc crew helps fight.

I dont think blizz expected people to find this quest yet. I just stumbled across these guys after falling off a cliff and dying right next to them. I was hoping for some great reward since it was a quest that wasn't in a normal area and hard to get to, but since im 60 I got nothing except the option to do it again. too bad.

As others have said, after several waves the crew just start standing there and stop fighting.

At this point, just stand way back so you don`t get aggro (I had Shadowmeld so I`m not sure if you could do it otherwise).&nbsp The naga will stop at the crew and just kinda stand there.

A few minutes later they`ll despawn and you`ll get completion credit.

Too bad there`s no rewards.

I found this quest as well, and personally use it as a Role-play quest to test small groups of applicants and those in the guild who want to lead patrol groups in role-play.

Since this quest is repetable it works well for that purpose with a small reward for completing it.

Okay - as posted above - on their last attack, you will notice that the crew does nothing (some may even have died during an earlier wave).

Do pull way back and only 1 will come in to dispatch at your leisure.&nbsp However, you will have to kill the rest for the quest to complete.

Location again is 53,87 - and if you come from shore at 49,91 there is a lone scout there.

At the end she says:
I would ask you to speak to any surviving passengers from the Horizon Scout. Some of them had business in the area, and may have a request or two of you if you're willing.

not true - yet - I thought maybe it had something to do with the 3 other named (Lindros, Patrick Mills, Alexandra Blazen) staying alive.&nbsp So I did it a second time - the weird thing is that even post BC, I got zero experience from either time at lvl 60.

probably not worth your time. no followups, nothing accomplished by doing it, and the reward is pretty small if you're high enough to solo it.

when you complete it, she says you should talk to the surviving members for more jobs, but none of them have anything to say. probably to be added later.

a tip for rogues: you can move up in the valley around the corner, and use distract to stop half the group on their way. so you can just fight half of each wave at a time. I wouldn't recommend sap though, or they all come for you. and it's hard for the crewmen to get them off.

Who knows what Blizzard have been planning for this part of Azshara (not to mention the little stage just offshore). Perhaps this could be an opening for some Maelstrom quests, since that's going to be Naga territory & since the quest text states that the trouble happened offshore?
