Un'Goro Soil (20)

Description

The soil of Un'Goro Crater is reportedly enriched with potent magical qualities. I want to know facts from falsehoods; go into the wilds of Un'Goro and acquire enough quality samples of soil for our continued study.

You may think that collection tasks are beneath you; that sort of attitude does not endear yourself to me or the Cenarion Circle. Bring the samples to Jenal, who is no doubt wasting time outside behind this tree; just look for the piles of dirt. He will handle the logistics - not I.

Got to the crater, stealthed around to explore the crater. As I came upon Un'Goro soil, I'd activate it and collect the samples. By the time I had "mapped" the crater, I had 24 soil samples without fighting anything. Received 4700 XP at turn in.

If you choose to use this strategy, just make sure you look around the soil 360 degrees before you sample it. There are lots of high level mobs (if you are L49) that may detect you if they get too close. If you are careful and patient, you should be able to complete this quest without any major problem.

Please note: Un'Goro Soil can also be dropped from mobs in Un'Goro Crater. I got some from the Ravasaur's. ( Very big raptors ;) )

It's also non-soulbound so you can find it in the Auction House. Well I normally put it into the auction house when I pick it up.

Hard to find it on the ground, look close to the trees' roots and the drop rate from mobs is low. Try to find more soil for the next quest http://classicdb.ch/?quest=3781

In addition to the soil that you can find on the ground, it drops from the Ravasaurs. Not sure if any other mobs drop it.

That's a good suggestion about checking AH. Also, info to the wise - you'll need more Un'Goro Soil Samples for the next quest in the chain. Get them while you are farming in Un'Goro Crater (or the Auction House) so you don't have to run all the way back to get more. As to how many you need, read the comments for the following quests in the chain to get an idea. You get a packet of 20 seeds. Each time you click on the Evergreen pouch that you get to use to grow plants which may yield Marrowgrain, you consume 1 seed and 2 On'Goro Soils. Read the following quests about how many Marrowgrains you need to turn in the quest. At one turn in, you need 5 but the rewards aren't as great. In Darnassus you need to turn in 10. Each plant that you grow (consuming 1 seed and 2 Soils) might yield 0 to several Marrowgrains. My take on the comments for the later quest is that you'll probably need almost 20 Soils and perhaps 6 or 10 more, depending on 'drop' rate that you see. There are also comments speculating that your drop rate might depend on your herbalism skill. I think I was fairly lucky. On my first 'grow' I got 4 Marrowgrains. :)

I have not found one sample of soil onthe ground...all 20 on raptors and the ooze creatures.

Just start killing, and they drop 3 out of 5 times.

I did the first part of tbe chain. Turned in the soil samples and never got another quest. Do you have to be a certain level to get the next part? I was 48 when I finished it.

Although the info above indicates that you can attain the quest at 50, I was able to get it at 47 (and not 46).

So much easier just hitting the AH and buying 20 for 1-2g. If you're not able to cloak yourself and try it at level 47.

As far as I know you obtain this quest at lvl 50, and by that time you should have been in Ungoro Crater since it 48+. I had around 50 soil's when gaining this quest, so easy xp indeed ]

The soil drops both from mobs and from the the piles on the ground ( looks like cow poo) in the crater.
