Alien Ecology

Use the Scraping Vial to collect a Hive Wall Sample from one of the Gorishi hive hatcheries in Un'Goro Crater. Look for the chambers with the hanging larval spawns.

Bring the Hive Wall Sample to Hol'anyee Marshal in Un'Goro Crater.
Hive Wall Sample
Provided Item:
Unused Scraping Vial

Description

Just because we've suffered a setback doesn't mean that research must stop! We were investigating the Gorishi insects in the southern part of the crater before winding up here. Their presence is alien to the ecology of Un'Goro, and we want to find out why.

In their hive network must be larval hatcheries. You can identify these places by their hanging larval spawns. Use this vial to take a sample of the hive wall near any of the hatcheries. Bring it back to me for study, but be careful!

First larvae room when you enter. Use vial in the middle of the room. Helps to clear it out first, only two 52s (possible to pull one at a time) when I did it.

For this quest, you have to be standing on top of the mound in the center of the room in order to complete it. I had previously thought that you had to be standing next to a wall to get the sample. Well, as confusing as the wording for the quest was, stand on the mound. Otherwise you will run around for an hour like I did.

you have to go into one of the little rooms, theres one to the left and one all the way down the tunnel to the right. You have to scrap from the MIDDLE of the room, not the wall like it makes you think.

Enter the underground hive in the south-central portion of the crator. The ramp and entrance are marked on the map as The Slithering Scar. Once inside I just followed the passage left at the first intersection and it took me into the room with hanging larval spawns. Stand inbetween the stones in the center of the room and use the hive scraper.

You don't even have to clear the room. Using the vial counts as a spell actually and will not be interrupted.

Did it solo at lvl 50 rogue. Tried a few times before. Went to Stranglethorn and got some Jungle Remedy. One of the mobs hits you with +49% damage for 30 mins. JR will clear it.

Just solo'd it as a lvl 50 mage
If you take the entrance (dont know if there even are more?) that is located at 50,78ish then you only have to go a small path down, i think i had to kill only 2 bugs outside and 4 inside total.
Note that you can only scrape (use the quest vial) when you are standing in the middle of the room

Okay the place looks scary as Hell. All the bugs. If they were smart like the guys in Thousand Needles attacking one would bring an army of them down on you. Instead they are slow and stupid. Rode up to the entrance. Killed the guy following me. Then killed the couple at the front door. BTW the entrance is a kind of creepy looking tunnel with a cutaway into the ground. Down it. Kill all the bugs as you go. Take the first left. I was lucky as the wasp was on patrol and I killed it in the tunnel before hitting the two in the room. Even in there I only had to kill one atta time. Important note not only do you GO TO THE CENTER OF THE ROOM you need to be standing IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NEST-LIKE THINGY. Have the vial equiped and click it when standing there. Since my pet and I had gotten with a Pox that adds 41% damage or something like that I decided we'd just stone back to Gad and kill pirates till it timed out. It looks much harder than it is. Makes me want to go get a can of RAID and keep it by my machine.

These mobs cast the most annoying and most overpowered debuff there is. Silithid Pox which increase physical damage taken by 42%, not for 1 minutes, not for 2 minutes, for a freaking 30 MINUTES ! If you can't cure disease be prepared to get hit for CRAZY damage.

GO LEFT.

I don't know about anyone else, but Chamrick's comment about "the one to the right of it" confused me. As soon as you enter the cave, you want to go left, and there are only two mobs there as previously said (not counting one pat).

I solo'd 53 shaman. Piece of pie. Didn't die once.

The thing that threw me off was that the quest asks for a WALL scraping, but the way to get the scraping is to stand in the middle of the room, not near a wall!

I ended up clearing most of the hive before figuring it was the middle of the room.

As for elites? I didn't see any, and I'm sure others would comment if they found them.

Just make sure you can take on lvl 51-53 mobs, and you're fine. Make sure you have the little vail the quest giver gave you (it's black). Make sure it's ready for use.

Find the entrance to the insect hive in the south of the zone (South, Southwest). The entrance is marked by those large insect-like limbs that stick out from the ground. (As you go south in the zone, look for insect mobs, and the entrance will be near.) The entrance has several mobs guarding it, so clear them out first. Watch also for the wandering patrols of beetles and flying insects.

Once you clear the entrance area, go inside the hive and kill more mobs as you hug the left wall (at the fork you come to, go left). You'll quickly find a chamber with more mobs in it. Kill them all. Then walk up the mound in the center of the chamber and activate (click) the vail you got from the quest giver. After a moment or two, you're done! Just backtrack out of the hive (hug the right -hand wall when going back).

Keep your eyes open on this one, one of these creatures put a disease (Silithid Pox) on me that increased the melee dmg i took by 42% and lasted 30 minutes (Thus i died and lost it ^^)
Resulted in mobs hitting 200 dmg on me and im a mage =D

So soloing this as a lvl 50 mage i experienced as quite a pain, since when i had cleaned the room to get this thing they all respawned and i had to go all out to escape XD

In the end, i only killed the one to the right in the room where to get the hive, and then only slightly on the little pile there to avoid aggroing the other one. Takes a few secs to cast it.

OK basicly for this quest be around lvl 51 so you can defeat MOB's if nessersary.

Go in there and kill as you go
once in there head left (i think), keep going untill you come to a room with Big orange balls coming from the ceiling.

Go to the middle of the room then use your scaper thingy and you will collect a sample .

Then go back to the person where the Flight Path is (Marshals refuge?) and give it in somewhere there.

Just look on your mini map for that yellow dot showing where you give in a quest

Lots o' love

Are you guys sure to take a left? I took a right and went straight for the very back room that looks like a circle in the cave, might be two hatcheries, i don't know, just thought I'd put that in there. Also, if your a warlock use your voidwalker, and once you get the stuff run out until u start drawing aggro, then sacrifice and Howl of terror if there gets to be too many (there shouldn't) and if your not a warlock, you could also use a talisman of arathor and if your a warlock with a talisman that's even better (this is from a stand point if you decide to go to the left and not the right, but I imagine it would be a very quick escape if you bubbled and ran out from the left) Also, paladins and mages bubble your self with any protection you have it works nicely.

Well, I went in the cave (lvl 51 mage) and started killing, pretty easy, 1 by 1&nbsp they died. went in the left cave, killed the 2 mobs, ran over to the wall, started scraping. Did not work. Oh well, it's some other room then I thought. I ran to the next room and started killing. I got ganked by 57 lock. I dinged 52 and kept killing. Then I read thottbott, room to the left, damn... Ran back (this was easy, jst kill 1 by one) and then i scraped IN TE MIDDLE OF the ROOM, on Quest, it ways WALL.... dammit.

Oh well, all was easy. =)

If you are doing this quest, also get Roll The Bones and Lost quests.&nbsp These quests are all near each other, making it time saving. After getting the sample for Alien Ecology quest, head north a little and you find Diemetrodons (lvl 51-52).&nbsp These mobs drop bones for the Roll the Bones quest (there are other locations to get the bones).&nbsp The drop rate for the bones was around 45%, so be patient.&nbsp Then little bit more north is the quest for Lost. Hope this advise saves others when doing the quests.&nbsp

Not easy to solow when the rare spawn is there, the Clutchmother Zavas. She's too close to one of the other spawns in the room so you'll aggro both regardless. She also lays eggs every 5 seconds that hatch after 10-15 seconds and are quite a pain in the butt.

As a druid I stealthed as close as I could to the middle of the room, pounced the mother, got barkskin up, filled vial, then attempted to bear form out. Died after barely making it out the cave.

Good luck.
