Ancient Spirit

Escort Arei to safety, then speak with Kayneth Stillwind in Forest Song, in eastern Ashenvale.
  •
Help Arei get to Safety

Description

Felwood was once a peaceful and serene land... Until the legion took hold. The infernals, destruction, chaos...

The skull of Gul'dan ensured that none were spared here. All fell to the corruption.

Even now, as a spirit, I still find myself trapped, bearing the suffering of this land. Help me find my way home. Please, <name>, tell me you will lead an ancient spirit away from here, where I may finally rest.

Once I am free, seek out Kayneth Stillwind, a druid that resides in Forest Song, to the east.

Probably can be a hard one, though Arei makes good tank.
It will go north through edge of Irontree Woods to the road.
Once on the road 3 Treants attack, after defeating them the quest is complete.

His path can be found here: https://classicdb.ch/?npc=9598

I just did this quest on another character, and it now stops when you get to the road near Irontree Woods.

To start:

1. Finish "Purified!" you will receive "Flute of the Ancients"

NOTE: Ancient Spirit will NOT be in your quest log.

2. Go to Felwood south of Ironwood Trees near ruins. Don't have exact co-ords, but quite easy from Felwood fp.

3. Blow flute and Arei appears. Speak with him and gain this quest.

4. Follow him while he fights everything in the path. He's quite strong. He only travels as far as the path (which takes 3 minutes).

Easy!

Only thing to add to the comments above. After you complete the quest take Azshara FP if you have it, much quicker than riding all the way to Forest Song!

And still got 7300 xp at 57 :)&nbsp

The 3 Toxic horrors still appear at the beginning, btw

Um, so, I did this, and turned the quest into the guy in Forest Song, but I still have the Flute...?&nbsp Does another NPC want it back, (because I haven't found one yet that does), or am I supposed to throw it out?

I hate quests that leave behind items, it's to damn confusing.&nbsp I wish Blizzard would have quest items always be taken back once the quest is complete so you don't have to worry and wonder.

This quest is part of a chain beginning with "Flute of Xavaric" http://classicdb.ch/?quest=939.

You need to complete the quest "Purified!" http://classicdb.ch/?quest=4442 and get the Flute of the Ancients which summons the NPC who gives this quest.

For old time sake:

The quest has been very nerfed, you used to take the current path out of the Irontree woods south all the way along to Ashenvale. Along the way starting as soon as you exited Irontree you'd be ambushed by those first 3 treants.

A bit further along you'd be ambushed by some cultists from Jadenar, further along still you'd get ambushed by 3-4 Jadefire Satyr's. All in all it was a very difficult quest, and was very difficult to solo. I would have counted it to be one of the most fun too.

Just did this today solo (58 Warrior) to clean out my quest log.

Never had an issue with his not wanting to help in combat. I just basically held back, waited for him to aggro something then charged in to help. It got real close at the Jadefire point but having Demonslay on my axe helped out and I was able to keep the demons on me thanks to Cleave.

He stopped just outside of Felwood and said to leave him be to rest in piece. I then ran to the NE part of Ashenvale to finish the quest.

On a whim I headed over to Azshara to catch the FP back, killed a Highborne Apparition and got the Enchant Shield - Stamina (+5) which I did not have.

All said good afternoon of questing for me. =)

[/rant] Even with the shortened quest, I keep getting to road and having Horde geeks attack the mob. Have killed them a few times (even though I am not PvP), and gotten killed back. Next horde geek that does this will be killed, and I will stand over the corpse to kill them over and over when they rez.

Hint to Blizz developers: if PvP is shut off, players from the opposing faction should not be able to kill your quest mobs and force you into PvP. Not everyone who plays Horde is a geek, nor is every Alliance player a non-geek. [/rant off]

Ends at Kayneth Stillwind around 85,44 in ASHENVALE. For those without coords, it's east of the path leading to Azshara, at Forest Song.

Once you complete it, if your hearth is around the area, just hearth home and fly to azshara and walk to ashenvale. Bada bing bada boom.

I did this in 2.3 and noticed that mobs behave in a weird way towards Arei - if you follow him at a nice range no mob will aggro him. Always when I got close to him the nearby mobs attacked Arei. This is from a stealther's point of view, since I didn't pull any mobs while prowling in cat form. Hope this helps some of the reading rogues and druids - just stay at about 20 yard range and it's a walk in a corrupted park.

This is one of the more annoying/frustrating quests in the game that I'm aware of. You are forced to walk from Irontree Woods the entire length of Felwood to Ashenvale and you'll find yourself frequently having to defend him from mobs. There is one triggered ambush after you get past Jadenar with 5-6 Jadefire demons, but aside from that, the main difficulty is the behaviour of Arei.

Sometimes he will blissfully just trudge along after taking a swing or two at a mob that he's aggroed and there's a ~very~ narrow margin for failure in regards to how far ahead of you he can get. If he does this at the Jadefire ambush you're probably going to fail the mission.

The rewards aren't even that good, but at least you get a "greatly increased" reputation change with Darnassus.

Yeah, I've always hated any escort quests because the escortee always seems to aggro everything in sight and, amazingly, way far off mobs that wouldn't aggro if you set fire to their feet. This guy though was able to do some of the heavy lifting. We did aggro a few mobs, but I took most of the damage. He did tank well. Didn't really seem like he took any damage even as the tank. The kickers of this quest are the two ancient pi.ssed-off protectors that appear and want a piece of Arei.

But, as lvl 53 hunter, it was worth the effort. Scored like 10,000 something xp. Nice!

The first time I died, I didn't stay close enough to Arei. I was fighting one enemy and Arei just kept walking. When Arei got about 50 yards away, I got the message that the mission failed.

The second time I died was at the Jadenar/Satyr point. I had thought that a player coming out of Jadenar had attracted all of them to the main road but, from reading posts here, that's not the case.

I guess I'll have to bring one or two reinforcements with me.

I remember before when you had to escort him all the way to ashenvale, and you got jumped several times on the way.&nbsp The hardest encounter was 4 Jadefire satyrs that pop up, including a couple of hellcallers.

The quest sure got gimped, now you just have to bring him to the road.&nbsp Easy exp.

Very Simple Quest... you dont have to take him the whole way to ashenvale like i missread... you gotta take him to the road thats all... and then your attacked by 3 tree guys... pretty easy to slice down

I'm a 54 mage on Bloodfeather and did this yesterday when I was 53. I had absolutely no trouble with it. I did have to put up with an annoying 46 shaman on an egotrip. It is a bit hard on the manapool though, but a potion, evocation and mana stone solved that easily.

I got the quest from a drop, don't know of any other way to get it.

A 54 Rogue did fine on this quest, and I even died. The only difficult part if you have no heals is when the 3 elementals pop up. I died, and res'd not too far away, when I returned, he was still fighting the elementals. Finished them off, ate up, and continued. 3 treants come at the end, thus proving another semi-difficult part. Keep 2 on you, and one of them on him, you should do fine. Good luck, quest rewards good XP, and you may be able to use one of the items.

Pretty easy for a lvl49 hunter. Did it alone and I managed to kill all the mobs. Fun Q! ^^ (Did it for the exp) :P

Btw, I don't know the name of the mod (got 180 mod folders so) but when I target him, he gets attacked. I use a attack spell on him like autoshoot and it autotargets the thing he targets. An easy /assist function. Hehe (that helped me to take agro with my pet :P)

Once you have the flute, travel to the Ruins in northwestern Felwood (Coord: 49,27). To use the flute you have to actually get near stuff that looks like ruins (stone columns, etc.). At this point, it turns into an escort quest. You have to kill ironwood stompers (lvl 42 mobs) until you get to the main path. When you get to the main path you have to kill three of them at once, so while health shouldn't be an issue, make sure you are healed when you get the main road. Aside from this, this quest is extremly easy. Soloed as a lvl 54 warrior.

Just solo'd as 53 hunter. Walked him up to the road. Took me two tries (hard to keep the mobs off him), then he just vanished without saying anything. I thought it had failed, but when i went back to summon him again with the flute, it said he "finally felt free." Then a level 60 horde charged him, hit him, turned on his pvp, and then I killed him. Ha.

I had no problems whatsoever with this quest on my own(56 mage). I met a horde warrior on the way to Ashenvale but he seemed to know the quest and didnt want me put throught horrible suffering of having to do it again, so he spared me. The mobs were not difficult and Arei is decent fighter himself.

Soloed as a 49 warlock, use voidwalker and stay behind the giant, he can hold his own. Most of the mobs are 53 or below and shouldn't resist your spells too much. When 3 mobs are aggroed at once, put voidy on one, let treeboy take care of another and finish the 3rd yourself, at the last bit I had to fear the last add and bandage the giant but it worked out fine. Used 2 night dragon's breath, 1 superior mana pot and a lot of drain llife but it was't that hard.
