According to J.D.'s manual, this combination can be used to create a shield that does damage to enemies.

At the time I was in Un'Goro I did the basic crystal spire chains and never looked back. If you have room in your bank I reccomend saving some of these for later on. When you are trying to reach endgame and you are going through BRD you will gain the other BoP items needed to make:

It's kind of a pain to go back and get crystals later on. If you plan to do some MC raiding and you are a tank make sure you have 8 of these spires ready for a double-shot of the quest. https://classicdb.ch/?quest=4483
