Webbed Pterrordax Scale (8)

Description

I'm making a flying machine!

I got stranded here, and I'm absolutely horrible at finding my way around. I'd take a gryphon or wind rider back to Gadgetzan, but those beasts just scare me to death.

So, will you help me? All I have left to build is the wings, and I was thinking that the webby scales from the pterrordax and diemetradon would be perfect. There's no way I'm going to go up against one of those, but you look pretty tough. Why don't you give it a try?

Well this quest is a bit of a nightmare, as the Diemetradons are everywhere and the Pterrordaxs are no where to be seen. But i did find them, for those without Co-ords:

South of the crater at Terror Run, there is a hill with about 7 of them (they respawn quick).

With Co-ords just go to - 44,89

The drop rates on these things is pretty pathetic. Supposedly it's 1 in 4 or 5, but it certainly feels like twice that. These things aren't group-lootable either, so you have to kill twice as many if you partner up. Played for 90 minutes and got just about half of each. Irksome.

Get 2 other quests from the Marshal's Refuge if you want to save some time:

Roll the Bones: http://classicdb.ch/?quest=3882

Beware of Pterrordax: http://classicdb.ch/?quest=4501

The mobs you kill in this quest will also give you the quest items from these 2 quests, so it's a bright idea to carry all 3 to save some time.

Drops off of all of the Pterrordax and the Diemetradons.

I found that the best place to find the Pterrordax was by the large crystal pylon sites which are around the edge of Un'Goro. The Diemetradons are spread out all over.

Drop chance is about 30% for each scale off any of the above mobs.

This quest is not that bad if you know where to look. :) The before-mentioned 46, 66 is indeed a good place to go for dimetredon scales, drops almost every time. However, seems like that's not the problem. Pterrodax scales? Try 78, 58 and the area in the mountains just north of it. They drop more often than any other pterrodax I tried. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I finished the entire quest in under 40 mins.

This quest is very easy, I have no clue what you're talking about with the bad drop rates.

At (46,66), most of my Diemetradon Scales dropped every kill.

At (78,40), there is a nest of Fledgling Pterodax dropped every kill.

Another good spot for the pterrordax is on the Ironstone Plateau at 78,41. The drop rate and respawn time are both very good.

This quest is absolutely horrible. The quest items has a abysmal drop rate.

I have grinded from level 50 to 52 just trying to get the scales to drop. I do not recommend anyone doing it if you are easily frustated by quests such as this. (I sure am frustated after finally completing it.)

On the other hand, exp is exp, and is required to level up anyway.

The quest NPC literally says "Pwned" in the return text.

This quest is worth it, if only for that.

"Every great vehicle needs a name... I was thinking I'd call it... Pwned!"

Ok Guys I spend few hours on this bloody quest...but if you want to get it done in less time follow these cords and and it should be great for the webbed petterordax scale: The best places in Un Goro for those are: 55,88 and the other (the best) is at 80,59 but path starts at 76,61.. the others scale are easier to find..just read previous comments..it shouldnt be a problem..good luck.

Easy the diemetrodon scales are everywhere especially near the bugs lair area (north of that) and the pterrordax (which are called fledglings which dont cast fear) are in the valley in the mountains far east (ive admitted the screenshot) Happy hunting :P

Pterrordax @ 56,10 - Around 6 of them so you may need to wait a while for respawns; don't know how quick the respawn is, discovered this spot while doing the Pylon quests.

Diemetradons @ Southeast of Fire Plume Ridge - loads of them scatterered around there, but pretty packed, so if you're a lower level you may need to watch out for mobs running in half-way through a fight.

And, as always, watch out for Devilsaur as he roams casually around the area and is surprisingly sneaky for a 50 foot high creature.

Unless you're level 53ish, you want to kill the young version of these mobs to get the scales

at 77, 42 is a plateau with many fledgling pterrordax that drop the scales and are easy to kill

lvl48-49 and they don't have a fear, but a knock down instead. DEFINITELY the place to get these

the young diametradons are pretty much all over the NE quadrant

(50.5, 10.9) right next to camp is a few unless competition cuts them down.
(56.6, 88.4) dozens of them.
(50.4, 88.4) two more.
(45, 87.5) bunch more.
Their move "terrifying screach" is REAL annoying. No walking away to get a cup a coffee while killing these guys.
A MAP of those four cords I just gave: PTERRORDAX LIVES IN THE MOUNTAINS.

Note that these cords are not where to find the other two types, Fledgling and Frenzied Pterrordax, but only the one just plainly named Pterrordax.

------------------------------------
Diemetradon's are all over but I found some lower lvl ones at:
(63, 36) three of them
(60, 50) three of them
(57, 55) ten of them there and surrounding area, mixed in with a very onry pterrordax
A MAP of the three cords I just gave: A FEW LOWER LEVEL DIEMETRADON'S THAT I FOUND.

As of patch 2.3.3 I had about a 25% drop rate. I found the plateau's around the edge were hot spot. Several are mentioned in the above reading, as well as around 23,59. Just work your way around the outer edge of the crater. Anytime you see a path leading up the hill, follow it and you'll most likely run into a group of them.

Despite the quest's level, it's best done at level 54 or above, as you are strong enough to take on the Elder Pterrordaxs at this level. The weaker flavor of these flying dinos are rare and looking for them will possibly involve a lot of travelling and waiting for respawns.

This quest sucks. I completed every quest i could get in Un'goro, until lvl 54, killing all Diemtradons and Pteradons that fairly easily accessible, and by lvl 54, guess how many I have

1 Diemtradon scale and 5 Pteradon Webbings.

The drop rate wasn't even 1 in 30 for the Diemtradons and about 1 in 13 for the Pteradons.

Abandoned to hell.
