Super Sticky Tar (12)

Description

I'm always looking for a quick way to earn a gold, <name>. If you help me with my newest idea, I'll let you in on a little of the profit. How does that sound to you?

I thought so!

Head to the tar pits in northern Un'Goro Crater, and collect me some tar. Not just any tar, now, you'll need to get it from the beasts that live around the tar pits. Regular tar just simply isn't sticky enough.

The plant-like creatures contain chlorophyll in their skin, and mixed with the tar, it's super sticky!

You can avoid the "Black Sludge" debuff by turning and running as soon as they start casting, its a long cast and a short range, plus unless you can remove disease 54% slower attack is a huge pain. There are lower mobs then the 52-54 ones, if you go farther east, there are more spread out tar-pools with 50-52 mobs.

This quest is a pain in the ass.
At first I went to the first location provided and no drops.
Then I went to another one and nothing at all.
I decided to go South and killed two creepers and got 2/2 for the drop.

The location I was at was 47,33.

My drop rate was:
Tar Beast 13%
Tar Creeper 11%

I got more from the Creepers then Beast though.
Just hang around there and wait for them to respawn and you'll be done in 1/2 hour.

was very easy, they dropped off the tar beasts and creepers&nbsp at the first tar pit going right or&nbsp N.E. of entrance from Tanaris. Close to Gorrila cave.&nbsp lvl 50-52 mostly 50 &51 spawn mostly, im lvl 48 hunter and i just circled the tar pit and hunted the six of them that spawned there again, and again, p.s., killin gorillas for other quest right next to me. Good Luck.&nbsp Mooneyes.

Lvl 50-52 Tar Creepers and Tar beasts.

Best drop rate by far.

Can be found at the south-eastern tar pit. One that looks like an "S" on an angle.

the "Tar" mobs, Tar Creeper, Tar Beast, Tar Lord,
Tar Lurker are best.&nbsp The plants were useless and deadly to 52 mage. Avoid the Lurkers whenever possible as they hit you with Black Smudge that decreases movement for 2min and is a major PIA.

Make sure you kill the tar beasts closest to the entrance to Un'Goro Krator from Tanaris.&nbsp I'm a 49 Druid, and all 12 dropped in about 45minutes.&nbsp Not bad, because it's good XP.

Tis wierd but it seems to me that the lvl 54 Tar Lords do not drop this as often as the lower Tar ..(something) (lvl 51-52) drop it.

It might have just been me, but I had a 70% drop rate from the lower lvl mobs, and a pathetic 20% rate from the 54 lvl Tar Lords.

These mobs can be found all around Un'Goro, but for convenience go right outside the camp and to the left.

I found that the lower level tar mobs had a better drop rate.&nbsp Tar Beasts and Creepers around level 50 had the best.&nbsp Stay away from the bigger Tar mobs... they will yield ya nothin!

Took me 40 minutes.&nbsp I probably could have done it sooner if I stuck (pardon the pun) to the lower levl mobs.

The Tar beast dont drop as much those of you saying they are the best are wrong. Use thottbot correctly and click on the tab for the drop rates. Tar Creepers have 66% drop rate while Tar Beasts have 28%. Only Problem I had during this quest is that it seemed when i tired to kill the creepers after they respawn then they wouldnt drop. Just moved onto another pit a woot

Completed the 12 sticky tar.Got a drop rate of 1 in 2 near the entrance to the air terminal and a little south of it. About 15 mins for a 51 Hunter.
Trouble is after returninh to Gagetzan to get my rewards fron Tran'rek he will not state complete request and it says continue only, so I get nothing. What a waste of disappointing time. Is it a bug?

well yes this quest sucks. However, one shining point about this is that the gnomish trait escape artist will remove the black sludge even though it is a disease. Lots of ppl may know this, but i didn't and it makes things a tad less painful if you happen to be a gnome.

As a lvl 49 Rogue soloing this, i had to stick to Tar Beasts and Creepers at lvl 50-52 to do it in reasonable time..
Dropped in about 30-40% of the time, mostly out of lvl 51 Creepers..

Extra loot: 1xHearth of the Wild and 1xSmooth Leather Boots, nothing to cheer about..

Reward (lvl 49):
1g 65s
5450xp
+100 reputation Gadgetzan

The drop rate for this quest still really sucks. After killing tar beasts and tar lords all afternoon and evening, I have ONE tar sample to show for it. The only comfort is that I have 11 samples of Un'goro soil. Haven't tried killing the walking flower creatures. Did someone say they also drop tar?

Just FYI, the best way to do this, Muigin and Larion, and Un'Goro Soil is to do them all together. You can also collect Bloodpetal Sprouts for the Mount up in the Crystal Cave... and I guess you ought to pick up the power crystals for that quest too.

If you are belowe 50, stay on the extreme East side of the Tar Pits and kill the Bloodpetals, Tar Beasts, Tar Creepers, and collect Soil when it hits the ground. The Petals and the Elementals will drop not only Bloodpetals and Tar, but Un'Goro Soil, so altogether you're getting nice xp if you're under 50, and 3 quests workin with good turn in xp.

also, one thing for Hunters to know.. these guys are NOT immune to your Stings.

The drop rate seems to be horrible for all types. I have killed maybe 20-25 each of the Tar Lords, Lurkers, Creepers, and Beasts, and I'm still only at 3/12 of the Super Sticky Tar.

Fortunately I'm still getting rested exp, so I'm after getting over 40,000 exp just from the kills! And I've still got 9 more quest items to get!

[edit] Just finished it then. The drops picked up significantly after my post! It went from 1/50 to maybe 1/3, plus I got 6 Living Essences and a few green items. Once the drop rate improved, the best drops seemed to come from the Lords and Lurkers. Hope this helps! :)

yeah so i started this quest at the front of the tar pits and grind my way towards the front of the outpost with fp and quests. moved back south and got about a 40% drop rate as apposed to the 15 - 20% drop rate at the front.

best drop rate around 47,34 and north of that.

You want to concentrate on creepers and beasts - they have a 20% drop rate. The other types have a 10% drop rate. One group to farm are around the three lakes about equidistant from coordinates 62,28. If nobody else is farming them, you should probably get enough of a repop rate to just keep killing until you get your Super Sticky Tar.

I can confirm what Ripz wrote. Got two items from the lords (in about 40 minutes) but the rest in about 30 minutes from the lower level tar creatures.
