Mother's Milk

In the heart of Blackrock Spire you will find Mother Smolderweb. Engage her and get her to poison you. Chances are good that you will have to kill her as well. Return to Ragged John when you are poisoned so that he can 'milk' you.
  •
Milked

Description

It's probably one of the most potent poisons in the world, <race>!

I've overheard the Blackrock speaking about its lethality in my jaunts into the Spire. They call it 'Mother's Milk', named after Mother Smolderweb, the big nasty spider in the Skitterweb cave.

Now here's what I need from you: A live sample of the Milk, flowing through YOUR veins. Just bringing me the gland won't be enough! Get her to poison you and come back to me!

Then... I get to milk ya!

<Rubs his hands together in anticipation.>

As a rogue you can solo this, but not easily. There are 2 ways. Start by getting to Mother Smolderweb and engage her alone in combat. Put on evasion and let her whack at you until she poisons you. When she does, either:

1. Blind her and hearthstone right away, maybe make a macro to do it quickly since they both have the same exact time length.

2. Sprint up past the other spiders up towards the ogres and jump off the ramp onto a thin support beam above the orcs at the bottom. No enemies can get to you on this beam and they go into Evade mode and leave eventually. From here you can safely hearth.

Then make the annoying trip back to Burning Steppes to turn in the quest and get your worthless trinket reward. But at least you didn't waste an hour getting a 5 man group to this spider only to hearth and waste the rest of the instance.

K, it is defently dispelled by shapeshifting.&nbsp The annoying thing is, I managed to get it in caster form and hearth to SW.&nbsp But before I got out of the inn in went off and traped me in a web.&nbsp And, being a druid, I did what druids do as a relex reaction and shifted.&nbsp Then I slaped myslef and cried.

Few tips:
* The macro "/s Don't cleanse me please" seems to help
* Having you hearth in Shat can cause for long journeys
* Remember to loot her.
* Remember, pallys, that large cliff jumping + bubble (to avoid fall dmg), also results in cleansing your poison. (ahem).

Keep these and mind and you shouldn't have to do it more than once... unlike others >< .

You *do* have to leave the instance to get the quest done. You would pretty much have to set up a group specifically for this quest. Have the mage make a portal to IF, then head to Burning Steppes and complete it. Otherwise, no one else is really going to want to hang around and wait while someone heads to Steppes unless everyone is there to do the quest. The little spiders also drop an item that clears the "snare" effect.

i couldn't finish this quest last night (and another mage with me btw) because Blink killed the debuff.&nbsp I sent a ticket to a GM and this is the response i got:
Thank you for contacting the World of Warcraft Game Master Department.

Issue Reported:
"a problem with the Mother's Milk quest. you are supposed to run to flamecrest to have the NPC milk the poison from you but when i blinked on our way out of LBRS, the poison debuff dissappeared. same thing happend to another mage in the same 5 man group. is this by design?"

We are aware of the situation you reported, and we are currently working on a solution. Please check the World of Warcraft website (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com) for future updates and corrections. We appreciate your patience.

Solo'd this as a druid without using potions, I did use a scroll of protection IV and a scroll of stamina IV though, and it turns out I needed both.

Stealth to her, stand in the corner behind her. Regrowth yourself, rejuv yourself, and pull her. Then continue to heal yourself, but be aware that she interrupts sometimes. I used innervate early on just to be sure i didn't run out of mana, and nature's swiftness when i was interrupted. Once you have the poison, run as fast as you can across the big metal bar. At the very end of the bar, turn left, and jump off. There is a tiny little ledge that you can land on if you're careful. I made it to the ledge with 400 health to spare. )

It isn't impossible, but it'll likely take a couple of attempts, and a bit of luck. Gear for intellect, not stamina, as she'll force you to heal quite a bit.

edit: ps, the trinket gets you drunk. So it isn't completely worthless.. bank it and bring it out for parties.. if you're too skint to buy your own booze..

Very easy for druid, stealth, bearform on her until you are poisoned and put hibernate on her.

BTW, there is a dwarf size crater on the floor of burning stepps with a 220 damage mace stick out after this FEMALE nightelf druid heard the his last line.

easy soloable by a rogue, like the poster above said just get posioned and vanish. the poison isn't a dot so it wont break your stealth. after that heartstone to kargath and fly to Flamecrest to turn in the quest. have fun and go collect your 7g77s (at lvl60) and some crappy blue trinket )

Ok, I did this as a 60 druid.&nbsp I stealthed in, got in the corner and threw insect swarm to add 2% chance for her to miss (u dont need insect swarm, jus something to get her attention).&nbsp right when she got to me i cast barkskin and rejuv and waited.&nbsp then once poisoned, being tauren, i used war stomp to stun her for 2 sec, then started my hibernate and luckily got it off before she killed me.&nbsp then i hearthed (which i had set to kargath jus before) and flew to Flame Crest. done =

Make sure, as a Druid, you do not have thorns on. I died 5 times trying to do this because she kept breaking hibernation as it registered her attack, and thusly my return damage from thorns, after I had allready cast hibernation and slept her.

Did it easily after that. I would start in Bear form and pull her with Faerie Fire, and then use Demoralizing Roar to try and help minimize her damage. I'd use demoralizing roar to heal up any missed health and then shift out and wait. At about half or 3/4 health I would hibernate her and heal. In my case I got the poison right before I hibernated her, but if not then I could redo it again after breaking her hibernation to let her attack again.

This quest is actually soloable as a Rogue - that's how I did it back in the day. The key is to get to a position where you *only* aggro Mother Smolderweb (as you're coming up the first ramp, the very far right corner should work I think), then have her attack and poison you. If you are lucky enough, you can do this before she kills you (evasion might help here, I assume you can't dodge the poison effect). Pop a vanish, get to safety, then hearth the heck out of there. (setting your hearthstone up near Burning Steppes helps)

A Druid can also probably do this if they can hibernate her after they get poisoned.

It's been a LONG time since I've done this (basically not long after the game came out), but I can't see how it wouldn't still be possible.

I just tried to solo this and couldn't.&nbsp I could not single pull the mother, so I ended up having all kinds of spiders on me and I died way before I got poisoned (even popping evasion).

Any other ideas?&nbsp There are 2 elite and 3 little ones on the ramp, mother in the middle, one on the cross bars, and another 2 and 3 on the other side of the crossbars from the ramp.

The trinket sucks, but u get some gold and 9950XP. The thrill of trying to make it back from wherever you hearthstone is to Flame Crest after hearthing out of LBRS is the best part, aside from the comments John makes when u turn in the quest. Out of the 4 that went in and got poisoned, only me and 1 other was able to turn in the quest. One guy was healed by someone in Grom'Gol, and another was ganked by ally after getting off the zep in tirisfal p I luckily had a very quit ride with not a lot of horde or ally around.

Though im a rogue i think druids could easily solo this too, just use jagno's second trick. Pull mother to the corner where theres no spiders at all and make her to poison you, in this part i used sprint, but druids can buy/make themselves a swiftness potion. Then just run to the beam and HS safely.

Anyone know how to keep the poison long enough to get to BS to be "milked"?

Tried the blind and hearth method mentioned above and failed 8 times, due to the 1 second global cooldown on all actions.
Died twice trying the blind and sprint option as I didnt have enough health on both occasions (had used major healing potion, whipper root and crystal restore).
However I've found a very easy way to do this quest.
Goto Westfall and kill Dust Devils until one drops a Magic Dust. This stuff sleeps a target for upto 30 seconds.
So I went back to Smolderweb, got poisoned, hit her with the Magic Dust and had plenty of time to hearth out (if your Horde, make sure you set your hearthstone to Kargath).

After you hearth, stay on your mount. You'll keep getting a message saying "You are mounted." because it's trying to web you but can't because you're on your mount. This may help you to stay poisoned since no one will see you getting randomly webbed.

This quest is really easy to solo for a lvl 60 Rogue, bring a Health potion and make sure u got Flash powder and Blinding powder, go to the spider with stealth. fight her and try to stun her as much as possible, try getting 5 combat points kidney shot go away bandage urself fight again, after u got him down to 10% u should have the Debuff. then u vanish and HS back to IF or some other place u got ut HS sett to.
(Blinding powder can be used to stun spider some while to bandage to).

Just solo's this as a NE hunter.

FD + Meld makes this pretty easy but I suggest having a swiftness potion to run past the orcs once you make the big jump down.&nbsp You can't usually make it past them all so a couple FD are in order.

I sent pet in to distract spiders and made my way to the crossbar area where they are.&nbsp FD again wait for pet to die.&nbsp Res pet.&nbsp Killing the patrol spider on the crossbars is optional if you time it well.&nbsp After this its easy, just attack the mother spider, get poisoned, and FD.&nbsp Hearth.

p.s. Tricket sucks for hunter but the gold is nice.

Yes, it is still possible to solo the quest as a rogue this way. I just did.

A good spot to aggro Mother Smolderweb and to hearth out afterwards was the far corner, I found.

One word of warning, though: I died once because I simply didn't notice that she had already poisoned me.
I had already come here to post a frustrated entry about how I had held out sooo long and still died unpoisoned before I thought to check my combat log, where - right before I used blinding powder, so I must have been fairly down but still in the first half of the fight - it actually said "You are afflicted by Mother's Milk". So there it was, and I hadn't seen it. - Quite apart from the fact that the poison shows as a bright green icon where all the poisons and spells you have on you are shown. Duh.

Anyway, in the next fight, I left my combat log on and kept a constant eye on it.

So, if you're as blind as me and tend to ignore your debuff icons, you might want to go into this fight with your combat log open, as well.

-----------

By the way, while you're stealthing through the Spire, this quest can easily be combined with the two pet quests given by Kibler: En-Ay-Es-Tee-Why and Kibler's Exotic Pets.

Just make sure you complete the two pet quests first - I recommend to take all your clothes and weapons off while you do, since you need to stealth around a lot and might die a few times before you have all the eggs and the Worg carrier. THEN, when you're done with those, go back to Mother Smolderweb, put your clothes and weaponry back on, wait for your Vanish to cool down and engage her.

Wow, this is a toughie! We solved it by taking turns hearthstoning OUT of the instance after being poisoned and completing the quest before being summoned back in. Our comrades continued killing spiders and worked up to the last phase of the spider section (where there were lots of eggs to be had for the returnees doing the egg quest).

The side effect of being webbed is abated when you are mounted on your ride or in flight.. I also don't recall being webbed while on board a ship (we didn't think to reset our stones to a more convenient escape point)- but it made up for that once I landed.. I think I go webbed six times in rapid succession!

I was the lowest level char in our group and had never been to BRS.. the others were impressed that I was able to noodle (or is that doodle?) a solution.

Fight well!

3) use divine shield and run to before the spiders, die there.

4) rez and use gnomish cloaking device past the spiders and into the courner with the boss
