Description

If you wish to prove yourself, you may begin by doing a very simple, but very important task.

Gather meat from the chimaera and from the shardtooth bears in the area. Bring it to me so that I may use it to feed the frostsabers that are being trained.

Here's how it works...

You start Neutral and receive .0166% rep bonus for each quest turned in.&nbsp The only quest available is the Frostsaber Provisions one where you have to collect meat from the Chimera and Bears.&nbsp Half way through Neutral (exactly 30 quests), the NPC unlocks a second quest for you.&nbsp This is the Winterfall Intrusion quest.&nbsp 30 more of either quest will get you into Friendly.

Once you work your way through Friendly (.0083% rep bonus) and get to Honored (.00415% rep bonus), the NPC unlocks a third quest for you.&nbsp This is the Giants quest in south Winterspring.&nbsp You are required to kill only 8 of the lvl 59-60 elite giants but they're further away and most likely can not be soloed.&nbsp There's really no point in taking the extra time and effort to do this one unless you want to try for some nicer items (Yes, they drop much nicer than the furbolg).

Each bar of reputation that you earn cuts the reputation bonus in half.&nbsp 60 quests to get Friendly, 120 to get Honored, 240 to get revered.&nbsp All-in-all, you'll have to do 420 of the quests to get ELIDGIBLE for the mount.

None of the quests offer a larger rep bonus upon turn in and none of the mobs offer rep bonus upon killing.&nbsp The only way to get rep bonus is at quest turn in.

So if that isn't enough of a kick-in-the-pants, just think that you won't even be 1/2 done with the quest until you're 25% into Honored.&nbsp :)

Most don't even start, a lot quit after a while, but I'm in it for the long haul.&nbsp Cya on my new mount.

Currently being 1010/12000 into honored here are my tips for this quest. You MUST be alliance to do these quests.

The Wintersaber Trainers are located in Northern Winterspring and pretty much the point of grinding reputation with them is solely to get Reins of the Winterspring Frostsaber. Now, pre-BC this mount was extremely hard to get due to the little amount of reputation you would get per quest turn in thus the grind was highly not worth it. Since Burning Crusade came out the reputation has been increased however the mount is still uncommon since people don't find the worth of the grind.

To get started you must find Rivern Frostwind (Note: he is literally on top of the giant rock at (49,9). You can get up to him from the back of the rock).

Outline of the reputation levels:

[Neutral][Friendly][Honored][Revered][Exalted]Overview of the quests:
  • Frostsaber Provisions
    Repuation: 250 (Humans: 275)
For this quest you need to collect:This quest seems pretty straight forward. I suggest killing Elder Shardtooth and Chillwind Ravager to get these meats. I find a good place to farm these is around (58,19). They have about a 30% drop rate.
  • Winterfall Intrusion
This quest becomes unlocked at 1500/3000 Neutral
    Repuation: 250 (Humans: 275)
For this quest you need to slay:This quest you need to head down to the Winterfall Village (67,36). If you're finding a lack of Winterfall Ursa look on the hill behind the camp. Shamans are spawned inside the camp. If you see a lack of them kill what's in there and some will spawn. There is always a shaman with High Chief Winterfall.
  • Rampaging Giants (Group)
This quest becomes unlocked at Honored
    Repuation: 350 (Humans: 385)
For this quest you need to slay:This quest you need to head down to the Frostwhisper Gorge (62,67). And ramp down can be found at (59,64). These have a good spawn rate, pretty evenly mixed. If someone else if farming them you can hear back up and across the bridge to about (62,73) and you'll find more there. These are 60 elites however they are pretty easy to kill (me being a 0,21,40 destro warlock). The only downside to this quest is really the walk.
Tips for farming:
  • It's always nice to have a friend. This is a really boring grind so it's nice to have someone to do it with.
  • Riding Crop or Skybreaker Whip are worth it for this grind
  • Except for the elites, you can pull a few of these a time as a 70 and be okay.
  • Once you hit honored and you unlock Rampaging Giants I would only do that and Winterfall Intrusion. The ride is longer but not having to farm the meat with the bad drop rate and the bonus repuation is worth it if you can take the elites.
  • Don't get discouraged. It seems like it's gonna take forever but it's not as bad as it seems. In one day I'm a bit into honored.
Some math:
Good luck all!

Unless I am very mistaken, you need to get your ten meats and then turn in the quest. You cannot just stockpile 200 of each and then spam turn-ins like you do runecloth to the faction quartermaster. The drop rate isn't exactly spectacular either. Yes, its sucks, but generally this weeds out the undedicated.

EDIT: Verified that you now get 250 Rep per turn-in on live servers after 2.3 patch.

Verified that you can not pick up more than 5 of each meat at a time.

I had 4 of each meat in my bags and killed two bears who each dropped one (I checked before looting), once I looted one the meat on the other disappeared.

Reputation works like this... 3000 rep in neutral, 6000 rep in friendly, 12000 rep in honored, and 21000 rep in revered.&nbsp Now, when you start this, you can ONLY do the first quest, which is get 5 meat from the chims and the bears each(10 meat total).&nbsp The meat are a drop rate, so you have to kill more than 10 total of course... depends on your luck.&nbsp The second quest I think u get it at half neutral, and u get the same rep as the first and third quest... 50 rep.&nbsp 55 if you are human.&nbsp So to get the second quest, you need to do the first quest 1500/50 times which is 30 times.&nbsp The second quest has you kill ursa and shamans which are NOT skinnable, but you will get BEYOND a lot of firewater which is cool.&nbsp :)&nbsp This is the quest everyone pretty much does because u can do it solo or in a group for the same rep.&nbsp So expect to do this second quest (1500 + 6000 + 12000 + 21000)=40500rep/50rep= 810 times to get to exalted.&nbsp Unless you are human, where it is 737 times.&nbsp If you are a human you need to also get exalted with Darnassus though, which will involve a few hundred gold in runecloth, and unfortunately winterfall mobs don't drop that.&nbsp Also, by killing winterfall mobs u get 5 rep with timbermaw furbs per normal kill and 25 for the boss normally.&nbsp So if you actually do that, u should get 50 timber rep per quest run without the boss so your rep for both factions should go up about the same.&nbsp However it depends, because u start less than neutral with the timber depending how busy you were in Felwood before that.

This quest begins with the NPC at the top of Frostsaber rock, the northernmost tip of Winterspring. You MUST be at least 58 to begin this quest. Your faction begins at 0 Neutral with him, and the purpose of the quest is to get exalted with the Wintersaber Trainers in order to purchase a mount not available in Darnassus. This mount is a purple and white striped sabercat. Tiger Riding is needed to ride this mount, which means you must be either a Night Elf, or have Exalted faction with Darnassus and purchase the tiger riding ability.

This is the first of a chain of quests available, and all continue to be available even after reaching the different reputation stages.

For Frostsaber provisions, the best place to farm is just south and east of the frostsaber area, just down the eastern hill from the road. 5 Meats from Chillwind, 5 meats from shardtooth bears. However, the meat can be gotten from any chimaera or bear in Winterspring. Each turn in gains 50 reputation.

For Winterfall Intrustion, which begins at exactly halfway into Neutral faction, which is 1500 of 3000 reputation. The best place to do this quest is in the Winterfall Village, east of Everlook. Each quest turn in gains 50 reputation.

The next stage of the series, Rampaging Giants, begins at honored reputation. It asks you to kill 8 Giants that are at the southern end of winterspring, in the Frostwhisper Gorge area. These giants are level 59 and 60 elite. The quest asks for 4 Frostmaul Giants, and 4 Frostmual Preservers to be killed. A group of 2 or more will be nice, and the trip will be long. Many who have attained exalted faction on my server have skipped this quest as each turn in still only yields 50 reputation, and is double the distance to travel. Others opted to go in a group and kill the giants, then sweep through the winterfall village thus completing that quest as well, yielding 100 reputation per run in doing both quests.

At Revered faction, a level 40 ridable mount is available for 90g. This is NOT the epic speed mount. Once Exalted faction is reached, as it stands currently, the Epic saber you can purchas is 900g, just like all other epic mounts. This quest has become mostly for status instead of being a cheaper option for an epic mount.

At Neutral this give approx. 1.6% of the faction bar (used a numerical reputation interface mod to see this).&nbsp At this rate, the quest will need to be repeated 62 times to get to friendly.

However, to get the spiffy mount, the quest giver says he will sell only to the most exalted buyer (neutral > friendly > honored > revered > exalted).

Normally, faction accumulation rates slow down when you reach a higer rank.&nbsp True, there are two higher quests obtainable as your faction goes up, but if the furbolg quests are any indication, it will give the same faction boost.

So how many times do you need to do these quests?&nbsp 250?&nbsp 500? 1000?&nbsp More?

For that, the mount should outpace a griffon!

I'm currently doing Frostsaber Provisions and Winterfall Intrusion (unlocked very recently) to gain reputation with Wintersaber Trainers.

I use the Frostsaber Provisions quest to get leather and use this for making Rugged Armor kits for the Darkmoon Faire turn-in, and I also kill a few Owls along the way for Vibrant Plumes (also Darkmoon Faire turn-in).

Now that furbolgs drop Runecloth (since Patch 1.9) you can theoretically use the second Wintersaber Trainers quest to earn Darnassus reputation if you need Tiger Riding, and collect the beads they drop for Timbermaw reputation at the same time.

So if you haven't already got Darnassus, Timbermaw and Darkmoon Faire reputation this quest and the second one offered by the Wintersaber Trainers are one way of building 4 reputations at the same time, albeit in a painstakingly repetitive manner.

I can say these things truthfully:

I am a night elf.

I get 50 rep points for turning in the 10 meat.

Over the last 12 turnins, the drop rate for a piece of meat averages between 6 to 7 kills.

Yesterday I turned in 3 times ended up with 119 rugged leather, 39 chimura leather, 24 wearbear leather and 2 green items which I sold in AH for 9 gold.

I got the quest at level 58 and I am level 60 as of last week and all i've done is killed bears and chimuras.

Its tedious, but when I get to 1500 (should be by next week) I will let you know what happens to the quest.

For those who asked: he will not teach you to ride a saber, you have to go to Darnassas for that.&nbsp That also includes getting rep points there.

1200 to 1400 was a bit of a chore.&nbsp I think I ended up killing 14 bears or chimura before the first meat dropped.&nbsp I considered dropping the quest and starting it again because it was almost rediculous.&nbsp Every bear I skinned was giveing me warbear something (sorry, cant rmeember which warbear fur it gives) again, I though wow..12 in a row now.&nbsp Im looking for rugged leather, that sells the best.&nbsp Took 4 hours to get enough to make 4 turn-ins.&nbsp That was rough.

I will do another round probably Friday so my update next week will let everyone know what the quest does at 1500.&nbsp I read one post stating it changes.&nbsp Ill let you know.

sorry for the tease, but 4 hours of bears and chimura killings really tanked!

I got this mount on my main and am currently working on the quest series again for my alt!

The mount is the only EPIC mount in game for alliance that only requires riding skill 75 (w/ the patch even the PVP mounts require a riding skill of 150)

and its cost is (or was) 90g for me..but since i had exalted darnassus rep i'd imagine the correct cost is 100g (if you don't have the discount associated w/ rep)

The fact that it only requires riding skill 75 DOES NOT appear to be a bug to me...but rather planning on Bliz's part to reward those who actually complete the rep grind!

(I completed it under the old rep of 50 per turn in on my main....only reason i'm considering doing again is because of the 50% increase in rep per turn in, i.e. going from 50 to 75, and the fact that my alt is human and will receive a bonus on top of that per turn in)

Thanks for the 4at once update.&nbsp I didnt know about the Dark Moon fair turnins..

I made 1500 and as soon as I turned in that last bit of meat a 2nd quest is now available for rep points.

Winterfall Intrusion

Obtained at level 60 Alliance&nbsp
Rivern Frostwind wants you to slay 5 Winterfall Shaman and 5 Winterfall Ursa.

https://classicdb.ch/quest=5201

Good thing is I can still do the meat quest (which yesterday I was averaging 1 drop ever 5 kills)

by far easier is killing the ursa and shaman's.&nbsp I had a bit of competition after my 3rd turnin but I did 4 turnin's in a two hour period, vs 2 with the meat.&nbsp the last turn in I did the meat too, which gave me 100 rep points.

I noticed killing the ursa and shamans my rep for the Timbermaw Hold was also going up.&nbsp BONUS!

so take the advise from FantasyMeister in the above post.

you can do pretty well here.

Oh, just so you know, I had 4 Level 52-55 greens and 3 gold drop in 4 runs.&nbsp I bet I made 7 gold from the junk they also dropped, which I sold.&nbsp All told, not a bad day.&nbsp Im going to add feathers and Ill make a few rugged patches too, since I got 64 rugged skins off the meat part of the quest yesterday.

&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp I was bored the other day so I travel to WS because I noticed my friend is farming. He tells me what hes doin so I join him. Wow this is nice...5 meats for two types of mobs to be eligeable for a frostsaber mount. Then the reality hit me and I find out I have to do the same quests X number of times until I make the faction revered?

&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp WTF? Are you kidding me? What clown at blizzard made up this fabulous idea? At least with the tier .5 quests you are in a dungeon most of the time and any undead killed can yield scourge stones. But to farm the same redundant quests over 60 times just to get the next part of the chain which eventually leads to the ABILITY to buy an epic mount? Im not feeling it.

&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp The only exception to this rule would be its more special than a standard epic mount, slightly faster, summons faster , allows you to other abilities on it (like cast) or something. I mean why do this (other than for faction) when you can run Stratholme Scarlet Side get the chance for righteous orbs (which go for 50g+ on the AH) and get your money and just go buy an epic moount from the vendor?

&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp I will say hats off and applause for anyone that has the tenacity to do this and then spend the money to buy this Frostsaber mount.

Until a recent patch (2 patches ago), there was a bug that allowed people with NO faction to purchase the mount for 1000g. (increased price due to no faction discount)

This is a fact, I know of people who did this, and they have not had their tigers taken away after the bug was fixed.

It is my belief that nearly every person who riding a wintersaber got it through this bug, I'm sure there are a few that actually took the time to farm the faction (well over a month of farming an average of 12 hours/day), but I think the legitimate ones are very rare...

I think the provisions quest is slightly bugged...or Blizz is evil...or I'm crazy. The following has happened about 20 times now. I complete the Winterfall Intrusion and the meat provisions gathering quests and run all the way to the trainer at the top of Frostsaber rock. When I got there, I tried to turn in both quests, but somehow some of the meat I'd gathered was missing. I noticed that this happened when the blue and white striped Pridewatcher had attacked me at the base of Frostsaber rock. Was he stealing some of the meat I'd gathered? The first few times this happened, I just thought I'd made a mistake and run back too soon, but then I really started paying attention to make sure I had all the provisions gathered, and still sometimes I'd be missing meat at the top of the rock.

Has this happened to you?

I've been pulling my info off Anonymous for this particular grind. Last night, like the other Draenei who posted, I hit exalted and discovered I could not buy the mount.

I called a GM. After 45 minutes of waiting, someone closed my ticket without talking with me.

So I opened another ticket. I was answered by a very rude GM who told me "Too bad, you should research better and see if you met your requirements. I can't check for you." He then gave me the WoW forums address, then logged.

After Googling today I found this thread and saw the similar Draenei complaint. It took me a month of hard grinding to do this and hit Exalted. Needless to say I'm deeply disappointed.

Ok, first off, be prepared for a long, long grind to be able to purchace this mount. If you're already interested in getting this mount, you probably have your own reasons...whether you want it to look cool to everybody else, or just feel (like myself) that this is the only Epic saber mount that doesn't look cheesy as hell with the ridiculous armor and costume jewelry looking crystals on it. Not only that, but this is one of the few (if not the only) Epic mount that requires only a 75 riding skill. Yes, that's right..instead of having to pay the price of 150 riding skill and the price of an epic mount...you only have to pay for the mount (provided of course that you already have purchased the training for the normal lvl 40 mount)

The journey starts with Rivern Frostwind who is hanging out on top of frostsaber rock, with his pet frostsaber. The first quest he gives you is this one, where you must get 5 each chillwind and shardtooth meat. Make sure you grind the Chillwind Ravagers, and Elder Shardtooths...located in the northeast of Winterspring for the meat. Droprate on these averages between 20% and 50% allowing for completion of each turn in to take between 10-20 mins each, and giving you 75 rep.

Around halfway through Neutral, you will be able to pick up the next quest "Winterfall Intrusion", and I would reccomend sticking with this quest for the remainder of the grind. And here's why...

1. This quest requires you to kill Winterfall Furbolgs, which will also increase your Timbermaw rep

2. It's easier than the next quest in the chain, but still gives you the same rep

I would also reccomend getting a group together to do this quest...if for nothing more than to prevent being bored to tears lol

So, how long of a grind is it? Well....lets just say you better really really want this mount.

Each quest turn in gives you 75 rep, in the opening text he tells you, you must be exaulted in order for him to sell you the mount, and you start off at 0 rep into neutral.

so...

3000 (neutral) +
6000 (friendly) +
12000 (honored) +
21000 (Revered)
-----------------
42000 total reputation

If you're not human (if so you get about 82.5 rep per quest)it would take you a total of 560 turn-ins to go from neutral to exalted. If you do this quest 20 times (to get to halfway through neutral) that means you have to do "Winterfall Intrusion" 540 times to get to exalted.

So yeah, its going to be a chore...but like all chores is more fun doing with friends, and some good music. Both of these I reccomend highly, unless you have alot more determination than I. lol

Zero xp, no reward, and he offers the quest again. Looks like it's broken to me. :(

Couple-three reasons.

(1) The purple and white cat looks hella cool.
(2) I wrote an AddOn that says a random quotation when you mount, and supposedly it will choose from different lists for different mounts. Now, I could just go to Merethil Harbor and get another horse. But what fun is that?
(3) As a Blacksmith, I need to get my rep up with Timbermaw Hold to purchase their recipes. The second quest means I can build rep in two areas at once.

I was a little disenheartened to learn that the meat (probably) wonb't drop after you achieve the quest goals the Timbermaw turn-in quests allow you to stockpile feathers and beads and turn them in en masse. But, unless they change it in 2.1.0, that just means that no one else will get one easily. I can take a liittle (a lot of) grinding to get something cool, especially when I get XP, a few greens, and rep out of it.

Well, I just half an hour ago reached Exalted with the faction.

However, I discovered that because I am a Draenei I can't buy the mount. And yes, this information came from a GM, who told me the bug is being fixed in the next patch, and that the new races not being able to do a lot of stuff the others can is top priority.

I did two more turn ins before I was answered by the GM, and he also told me that just being Exalted should be enough, meaning there shouldn't be any need to get the Exalted rank to maximum.

I'm a little annoyed heh, after all the constant weeks of grinding, and having to stop because of the Easter school holidays and the kids all over the game for two weeks, even at 3am in the morning (I tried to get things done then), I now can't get the mount that is mine.

I was hoping I could say I'm the first person to get the mount on the new Anachronos (European) server (without transferring that is).

I might as well max out the reputation rank while I wait.

Mortanius (Theonar, Draenei Shaman, on Anachronos).

sorry, the drop rate is better than 20%. I did the quest 3 times in a hour last night. It may have something to do with where you are grinding for the meat drops. I'm doing it to the east of the frostsaber rock where the elder bears are. I tried the area just to the south of everlook and the drop rate was lower.

Does this quest work similar to other quests in the drops?

For instance, in other quests, even if you've reached the amount you need, the quest item continues to drop until you actually turn in the quest.

If I have 5 and 5, but continue to kill bears and chillwinds, will the meat continue to drop?

If this is the case, you don't need to go back after each set of 5. You can continue to farm, and once you've got 100 of each or so, turn them in (2 sets of 5) one quest set at at time.

Possible? Plausible? Incorrect?

I'm too cheap to pay for epic mount, so I decided to grind for the mount. I tried before with my pre TBC 60 human warrior awhile back, but got bored and quit after 1 day of grinding.
This time I am grinding for my 65 draenei shaman. I have couple of incentive for grinding this time.
1. I can skin for money.
2. Mob level 57+ still gives me some experience, so it is not a total waste of time.
Will keep post updated.

I started the grind and. I do about 3 to 4 turn in per hour. Some times the drop rate is pretty bad. It is been 4 hrs and I'm 900/3000 into neutral.

I though killing furblog would be faster, but too many people farm there. That and getting gank from horde.

didn't grind much, but half way into friendly. I find doing both quests not a good idea. I can do winterfall intrusion in 8 mins, thats from killing 5 shamans 5 ursa and turn it in then hearth back. I don't have mount, I use ghost wolf with GM boot that gives me total of 55% travel speed. Collecting meat takes me 15-20 mins average. For a shaman sticking with winterfall intrustion and using both hearth stones is better in long run.
