The Restless Souls

Use Egan's Blaster on the ghostly and spectral citizens of Stratholme. When the restless souls break free from their ghostly shells, use the blaster again - freedom will be theirs!

Free 15 Restless Souls and return to Egan.

Souls Freed (15)
Provided Item:
Egan's Blaster

Description

I draw my power - my will to continue living and breathing - from the unmitigated hatred I have for the Scourge and all that they have done. I am, however, no zealot. There are those, like the Scarlet Crusade, who would sooner destroy the innocent undead than lend them even an ounce of compassion.

Which brings me to this: My blaster. It will unchain the tortured souls from Stratholme.

Use it on the ghosts that haunt the ransacked streets. Free their souls.

OK here is what to do:

Target ghost, use zapper on them, it aggros them but they die after about 10 secs. Then 1-4 (I had 4 at least twice) "Restless souls" appear. You target one, use zapper again and again after 10 seconds they say "thanks to egan" "rivendare must die" etc and become "freed souls" repeat x15 and you do quest.

It was slightly bugged for me and stuck on 14/15 but when I logged out/in it was completed.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned the Ghostbusters reference with Egan, not to mention how the blaster looks when you fire it.

Some additional information:

You can stand (at 59, anyhow) right near the entrance inside of the Live side, and not get aggro from the first pull ofr level 55-56 skeletons. If you look forward, you can see where the wall for the gates stop and the hallway begins. This is where you want to be. Be careful about running too far ahead, because the gates for the entrance close down behind you, and the only way out is hearthing (or dying).

Be careful, because if you don't tag the mob immediately with the blaster when they're in range, they might walk out of range before the 2.5 seconds of channeling that's required elapses. You can stop some of them with /dance, but(!) they will not allow you to tag them with the blaster, while they're dancing, so it's kind of pointless.

The mob will run at you, and maybe get in a hit before it "explodes" into often one, but I've gotten up to four, wisps that are Restless Spirits.

These spirits will flicker around pretty wildly, and you have to tag them again with the blaster to get credit. The channeling effect will make it so that you will always be pointing at the spirit, so you don't have to manually try to keep it in front of you.

Timing from my chat log, the Spectral Citizens show up roughly 8-9 minutes apart, so assuming you only get one wisp per pull, that's 2 hours of sitting at the entrance. I managed to get all mine in just over an hour, though (one pull had 3, another had 4 wisps).

I actually solo'd this quest.

Snuck into Stratholme from the main gate, snuck in cat form up to this little alcove by a tree on the left when you first go in... stood there and waited as ghostly and spectral citizens wandered past every few minutes... when they did, blasted 'em and got my 15 souls!

Nobody was online so I decided to try it solo and was amazed it worked. Was especially amazed I didn't get any aggro from the zombie a mere few feet away from me where I was at.

I was able to solo stealth in to the spot specified above (the tree on the left, right before the first intersection starting from the front door.)

I pathed along the left wall from the front door, then to the center of the road, and then to the spot near the tree.

Beware the crate on the left before the first building, because bugs can come out.&nbsp While you are there an Eye will also probably spawn. So don't stand in the middle of the road.

Once you get to spot you can safely stay there. The citizens walk by every few minutes and you will have several seconds to get them targeted and use the gun.&nbsp Using the gun does not create any aggro.&nbsp One to three spirits can be saved per citizen.

A ghost comes to the front of the first mob every 8 to 10 minutes. You can pull them with the blaster without arrgoing the mob. I used a telescope to spot them coming as they can be a bit hard to see. Each ghost will produce 1 to 4 souls.

Just a reminder, in case anyone forgets their blaster (ie leaves it in the bank like I did), that if someone else in the party does the quest the gun has been taking up a bank slot. Organised premade groups can work out who's going to use the blaster, and others could throw theirs and get bag/bank space.

Finished this quest last night w/ a Druid and Pally friend-We're all 60+. All you have to do is target and Zap the citizens, and wait for them to slpit into the 4 restless soul orbs. Target the orbs, they move fast, and zap each one again. They then turn into "Freed" souls and you get credit for the quest. The gun WILL take up your ranged slot. YEAH I KNOW, but IT IS A GUN. LOL! Good Luck and quest rewards can be looked up thru the gun.

I'm a priest, and used a lesser invis potion to get to the tree. That didn't work, they saw through the invis straight away and pow.

Maybe a lesser potion wasn't powerful enough...

O YA! You DO get to keep the Blaster once the quest is over, but it isn't repeatable so might as well destroy it, unless you wanna keep it for the "toy" factor while in Strat. I would also recommend checking the undead vendor in the building with Egan when you turn in the quest. I was able to buy a box from him for 8g that had a real decent pair of green cloth shoulders in it!

You get this quest from a guy at the Light's Hope Chapel, next to the hole in the ground graveyard (next to the little trainer).

And I'm guessing that the gun only works in Stratholme.

"I think Paladins wear this just for show, I can't seem to use it for pulling at all it just gives me "invalid target" error message when trying to use it on a mob."

It's a quest item. Of course it's purely for show, except for the quest it's used in. But why not put something in that slot?

if someone leaves the instance without having freed enough souls (happened to me) you can just enter stratholme solo and wait for a ghostly citizen that will come near you. in the moment he turns around you can use the blaster without aggroing the skeletons and free some more souls.

i imagine you could even repeat this until you get all 15... but since the doors are closed and you have to die or beam to leave the instance, that's just for the desperate people. ^^

Was on a 5 man trip today and we tried to do Restless Souls. However it was nearly impossible to collect the souls because there seems to be some sort of camera bug that prevents them from being visible unless you look at them from just the right angle. I spent a lot of time trying, went through a ton of citizens and only managed to get a few souls captured because by the time I was able to locate the souls they would disappear most of the time, assuming I could find them at all :( Anyone know if there's a trick to make this quest work more reliably?

Something might be wrong for me with this quest. I target an undead soul and zap it, it turns into a wisp, I zap the wisp and nothing, they follow me around for a bit then disappear.

I can't figure out if I am doing something wrong.

He's inside a house at 14, 33. There are a few undeads around lv55ish only. It's the next step of the chain that requires you to enter Stratholme instance, hence it's marked lv61.

Go ahead and visit him for easy 6,500+ exp when you're in the area doing "Plague Upon Thee!" and feeding Darrowshire spirits quests.
