Corruption

Find the Black Guard Swordsmith in Stratholme and destroy him. Recover the Insignia of the Black Guard and return to Seril Scourgebane.
Insignia of the Black Guard

Description

If I am short with you, it is for a reason. The plans for the creation of the great blade, Corruption, have been stolen by the Black Guard: Elite skeletal units of Baron Rivendare.

Yes, Baron Rivendare of Stratholme.

The Black Guard swordsmith now guards those plans with his... undeath.

Slay him and return proof of this deed and I shall grant you the knowledge required to create a blazing rapier!

it is getting there that is the problem.

This is a 5 man quest. However, I learned how to spawn the encounter when I was part of a raid.

If you have a the key to the Service Entrance, the problem lies in the mobs between the back door and the Baroness' ziggurat.

Once you step out of the service entrance, you will face 3 mobs with 7 baddies each. Head forward and follow the passage into the area where the Baroness' ziggurat comes into view.

In this area, the mobs are more manageable, since most groups are between one and three monsters. Simply pull to where you came out off (the drop gate) and fight each group there.

Move towards the ziggurat. If you look to the right of the ziggurat, you will see a side street, some boxes and a set of plans on the floor. Clear the area as a precaution, then interact with the plans on the floor.

This spawns the undead smithy, with a quote along the lines of "You will pay for these plans with your bones" (or something similar). 61 elite, if I recall. Not difficult. Once he drops, those with the quest can loot the insignia.

And, yes, Undead Stratholme can be 5 manned. The problem lies in getting a group together. We got as far as the Slaughterhouse, but it ended there due to dmg to our gear. 60 tank, 60 and 58 pallies, 57 hunter and 60 mage.

Scarlet Strat... well, that's another story.

What you need to do for this quest is to enter Stratholme (Baron run side - Use the back entrance). Once inside you need to find the shop called "Cash & Sons - Pawn brokers", this shop is right next to Baroness Anastari (NOT the Baron).

On the ground right next to the shop is a piece of paper called "Blacksmithing plans". When these plans are looted, a Blackguard swordsmith is spawned and attacks you.

The Blackguard swordsmith himself is relatively easy, you should have no problem killing him with a level 58-60 group. I was able to duo this guy with a level 60 priest by my side, me being a level 60 paladin with less than tier 0.5 gear.

In order to complete the swordsmithing quest you have to open the blacksmithing plans by the first Ziggurat on the undead side of Stratholme, just after you fight the abominations. The Baroness is at the top of the stairs. The plans are up against the wall directly to the right of the Ziggurat's stairs. When you click on them an elite named mob, the Black Guard Swordsmith, spawns that you have to kill and loot an item from, the Insignia of the Black Guard. Return that item to Seril Scourgebane in Everlook, Winterspring and you're done.

If you're only doing this to become a Swordsmith, you can just talk to the NPC and he will teach you Master Swordsmithing without doing a quest. This is new in The Burning Crusade, as far as I know.

In my previous post above, I was actually wrong! Please ignore it!

The Swordsmith is summoned in Strath from a scroll/smithing plans.

The scroll is to the right of the tower which houses the 'Baroness', and is on the floor by some barrels.

The plans are just before the Baronesses ziggurat on the right side of it

Managed to do this quest solo at 70 as a paladin. Im sure other classes could do it too. I threw on shield and 1h, and retribution aura. I went in the strat back door opened the first gate and hit holy wrath immediately. Then target one of the elites and keep spamming consecrate while whacking on the elite till hes dead, then target the next elite and repeat, if you get low on health and the non elites are dead and u have to run, when u come back and theres only 1 or 2 elites left in the group you can probably sneak past them

Turn right and go around the back of the church to the next group. The next group is basically the same, exorcism one of three elites, then LoS (line of site) pull around the back of the church building and hit holy wrath and spam consecrate again till theyre all dead while targeting the elites and whacking on them.

Next I went through the 2 gauntlet gates and put my 2h weapon on and Sanctity aura, I would suggest retribution if u dont have sanctity but its no biggie imo, the next bunch of mobs are solo pullable, go get rid of them, banshees, crypt fiends and the patrolling gargoyles. LoS pulling back through the gauntlet gate and behind the wall helps to not get adds or gets feared by the screechers. Watch out for the eyes of naxx too as this s a popular place for them to come out from.

Theres a group of 3 mobs on the right, and a group of three on the left near the cart. You can walk through the middle of these without agroing. Then just past the wall on the right theres 2 ghouls with the blacksmithing plans behind them, pull them and kill them both, theyre fairly easy.

Now this is the tough part, theres a gargoyle patrol that flys close to the ziggurat solo pull this guy when he comes so he doesnt agro.

Then wait till the banshee floats over near the ziggurat and u can sneak past the plans and past the group of three humanoids so youre close to the back of the ziggurat. Pull the banshee when shes close to the LoS, you wont be able to do a complete LoS pull so just get her back as far as possible and the run up and melee and you shouldnt agro the 3 humanoids.

Now go back up close to the wall and loot the plans and run back toward the back of the ziggurat, the mob will spawn and hes easy to kill, loot him and then go back to Winterspring to hand in the quest

axesmith quest next although i dont know how soloable it will be, a lot harder i think since its in brs

70 rogue solo
if you go in the back gate you need to go strait to the next gate not left. I just used distract on the mobs by the gate then opened and ran in. stealth past all the mobs on the right and around the wall you will see 2 ghouls. those are the only 2 you need to kill. the plans are along the wall by those 2 guys. right click scroll to summon the 61 elite. stealth back out how you came in.

ive read in various threads, that the quest "corruption" is required for a weaponsmith to become a swordsmith. i'm lvl 52, bs241. got to WS, talked to the NPC, but he didnt offer any quest. he just asked me if i want to become a swordsmith, and when i answered "yes", the swordsmith skill was added in my skill book. Has sth changed, or have i done sth wrong?

&nbsp When I set out to finish this quest I was in a ten man raid.&nbsp The blacksmithing plans were right where the above post said they'd be next to the Baroness' ziggurat.&nbsp The plans themselves were laying out on the ground, and the gear appeared over them and I was able to open them.&nbsp This summonned the keeper, but after killing him the item needed to complete the quest was not on him with the rest of his loot, I'm guessing because I was in a raid.&nbsp Other people in the raid mentioned that with the new patch you are not able to leave a raid to get items like this anymore either, that you have to go in as a party.&nbsp Don't have any hard facts on that yet.&nbsp Anybody else shed some more light on this?

The back door into Stratholme is located along the northern wall north of the graveyard near Plaguewood in EPL....You will notice the back door as it will look like a brick structure on side of the northern cliff...There will be a gate that is locked, so you either need someone to pick the gate open or get the [Key to the City] off the undead mini boss just before the abominations!

The plans that are looted to summon can be looted by only one person so random rolling would be fair!

Very easy for me to solo.&nbsp I stealthed into UD Strat. There are a few zombies that have enchanced vision, but not too many, so it wasn't too hard for me to zig zag past them.

I walked to the "Cash & Sons - Pawn Brokers" and grabbed the plans laying on the floor.&nbsp The LVL 61 Elite appeared at the&nbsp door of the store front.&nbsp No other Mobs were aggro'd by me or the fight that ensued.&nbsp I turned on Evasion and killed him easily.

i solo'd this as a 70 hunter easily. u dont even half to kill any groups except the two man group right in front of the plans. walked from the gate along the wall (i do mean HUG the wall) and didnt aggro any of the mobs in first room. pull all the single's in the middle and make sure u get all the flyers. turn right and there is the one 2-man mob pulled one ice trapped the other, when he unfroze killed him. grabbed plans killed the smith and booked it out. talk about a cake walk

Just did it with a 60 paladin, 59 paladin, 58 druid and 60 rogue. Was way over kill...

This could be duo'd by two paladins or a warrior with a priest. He doesn't hit hard and doesn't have a lot of hp.

No prereq on the quest, other than you beeing an artisane weaponsmith, get it in Everlook, Winterspring.

What I wanna know is Is there any known way to solve this quest if you are member of a raidgroup ?,

Or is it ONLY solveable in a 5 persons team ?

If yes to the last question, i'd say 5 x level 60 of certain professions are needed.

I'm a lvl 53 warrior and i fairly easily completed this quest with a few of my guildies... we had a 60 pali 2 60 rouges and a 59 mage... so the pali was our healer... which seemed like a chalange in itself... but basicly we just enterd the back door to strat killed the first 3 groups of undead... hung a right into the gauntlet part aggroed the mobs there one by one or in groups of 2 or 3... avoided the baronesses aggro, i grabbed the plans, black guard apeared it was an easy kill and he droped the quest item...
