The Sleeper Has Awakened

Escort Kerlonian Evershade to Liladris Moonriver at Maestra's Post in Ashenvale.
  •
Escort Kerlonian Evershade to Maestra's Post
Horn of Awakening

Description

I was on my way to Maestra's Post to meet Liladris Moonriver, but I decided to stop here and take a short nap. Ever since I awoke from the emerald dream, I have been so sleepy...

<yawn>

Would you mind showing me the way? I understand that Maestra's Post is south of here, along the road in Ashenvale. It can be dangerous, so I hope you have some friends that will join us.

Lastly, I may fall asleep so if you ever need to wake me, please use my horn. You'll find it in the chest here.

This quest is a pain unless you cheat a bit.

The NPC follows you (not a predefined route), so all you need to do is to keep away from the road while escorting him to Maestra's Post. That way you can fight the lowish mobs in the woods, one by one, instead of going through the scripted battles (I don't remember how many there are, but at least two, both with three mobs).

Completed at level 18, failed on level 17 since I didn't stay far enough from the road near Maestra's Post (make sure you take the longer route:).

This quest can be soloed fairly easily.

(1) Just take the Evershade guy WEST of the road in Darkshore (you don't have to go far offroad, just into the woods a bit. Stay west of the road till you get to the entrance to Ashenvale. This avoids Spawned Mob 1 (the Furbolgs). You can go between the road and the Glaive--AS LONG AS YOU STAY OFF THE ROAD to the west side.

(2) Then follow the road to Maestra's till you see the little house. Then go offroad again, east this time, and cut around the big tree and through the country to get to Maestra's. This avoids Spawned Mob 2 (the Undead Guys).

This quest is really quite simple. At most you may have to kill a bear or wolf or cat or two. You do not need to go the Zoram Strand route -- unless you enjoy the scenery, of course. I believe it is your presence on the road at or near those two key positions that spawns the two mobs. Stay just off the main road, and you'll be fine. Good luck! :-)

The easy way to do this: Avoid the street, go through the wood straight to the beach, then to zoram beach and from there to the shrine. Only occasional animal attacks, no furbolgs.

Not sure what happened. I got the quest, got the horn... he was following me for about 1 minute then I got a message I had failed the quest and he was back where I found him sleeping. We had not even gotten to the road and had encountered no Mobs. Back where I first found him, I tried the horn to wake him, but he would not wake.... tried a few times, then cancelled the quest.

Editted: Upon cancelling the quest, I could get it again. This time he stayed with me, falling asleep now and then (used the horn to wake him). We got jumped twice by mobs. 3 mobs each time. One time his health got pretty low and I was able to heal him... not sure if he would have died. He helps you fight the Mobs and even runs toward them when they first appear.

For those that have not been to Maestra's Post, it is in the zone Ashenvale and if you stay on the road you will get a message when you arrive there. There are buildings and the person you need to see will be in one on your left.

Since you got 25 min to complete this quest, it will be a good idea to do the quest "One Shot, One Kill" while you have Kerlonian Evershade to help you fight. After you accept this quest go to 45,90 and take the quest there. You have to protect the girl from the mobs and when she's safe you can complete both quests at Maestra's Post. Easy xp

Brutus, thou sleepst. Awake, and see thyself (II.i.46).&nbsp

Interesting, i saw this quote from Shakespeare's Julius Ceasar and this matches what the druid says, if I am correct, when accepting the quest. Almost like the Zelda knock off of Linken's Boomerang series in Un'goro, but not as much.

Go STRAIGHT west from where you get this quest until you reach the beach.&nbsp Then follow the beach south until you get to the excavation site and start heading southeast until you hit the road and follow it west then south all the way around until you connect back up to the main road and on to your destination.&nbsp I done this with NO fights at all, not even a beast.&nbsp Very easy.

Tried this quest at level 20. The ambush in Darkshire was easy, but the one in Ashenvale was too hard. Both times I followed the road, I got 3 warlocks. The guy you're escorting can't take 3 shadowbolts, and as a melee class I couldn't engage all 3 warlocks before they killed him. It's interesting trying to watch someone that's following you path through the mountains, though ... I don't know why Blizzard made this escort quest where the NPC follows you, yet almost every other one you have to follow them.

He is found at 44, 76 Grove of the Ancients in Darkshore. Next to him is the box which contains the horn that you HAVE to have to keep wakening him on the quest route. He will fall asleep and you have to waken him up each time. The quest giver Onu is with him in that area also.

You guys have just made things more complicated. Only&nbsp thing u need to do is follow 3 simple rules: pick up the horn thing, stay off the road and kepp a close eye on the chat. Do that, and this quest will be do-able without any fights. Really easy, only bad thing is that rewards sucks for a feral druid. (yes i know, feral druids wont be good in end-game, but hey, im just lvl 20 yet).

I tried the path once but the idiot decided to go to sleep while we were being attacked and got killed very quickly.

The second time I went west almost immediately and then cut a line south between Master's Glaive and Remtravel's Excavation. Dodged a few bears and such but no ambush.

I took the other path into Ashenvale than goes near Zoram Strand and that led directly to Maestra's Post without meeting a single furbolg. Total deathtoll - 1 moonstalker, 1 wolf.

Kerlonian Evershade acts as a pet in defensive stance, and will support you in battles. He will follow you throughout the quest, and is not set to an automatic path. You can use him as an advantage for battling multiple mobs, if you'd like to use him that way...

This quest is VERY easy to solo, as long as you make like Frodo Baggins and keep off the road.&nbsp There are groups of mobs that will spawn during this escort mission, but ONLY on the road.&nbsp Stay off the road, and you can take him clear to Maestra's post with no more opposition than the normal mobs in the woods along the way, which you can easily avoid or pick off one at a time.

Tried this on 5 alts over 14 months and never succeeded, with the only rule (The Time-Constrained Player, of course) being you can only try once with each alt.

Like a lot of things, when you finally get it, it's relatively easy, as you have probably noticed from the previous posts.

My 20 Druid took the somnolent directly across to the beach, dodging a few bears on the way and giving Murkdeep's summer cottage a wide berth. Had no problems with the naga on the Zoram Strand because there aren't many of them, and we avoided them carefully. En route to Maestra's (keep bearing right until you see it in front of you - don't go on the main road), I had to put several wolves to sleep and (of course) it didn't work on one, but we managed to kill him in about 20 seconds. Took me a minute to realize the objective was the long building but the rest was easy.

He went to sleep about 6 times. Annoying but it's part of the game. At least he didn't disappear this time (twice before). Using this route, it took us about twelve minutes and we ran into nothing more threatening than a few bears and a few wolves. Worth doing.

By the way, 1550 XP (at 20) plus a gun, a wand or a shield. Not blues of course but not awful.

Pretty straight forward quest. Depending on your class and level you may need a few friends to complete it. You will get jumped twice while on the road Maestra's. Keep an eye on the chat window since he'll fall asleep roughly five times on the road, just wake him up with the horn you got from the box at the quest starting point where he was asleep in bear form. The reward is worth it if the quest is your level or higher.

Keeping the journey away from the path, to the side in the forest, posed no problems at all.
No attacks from anyone, except for a sabertooth when old Kerlie deicded to take a nap.

This should prove invaluable to those complaining about the hardship of this escort mission...

As Zubinel says, the druid will follow you, make sure you keep an eye on him because he does fall asleep. Blow horn if he does.

He will stop and stand in the road somewhere near the border to Ashenvale. Once the message above his head no longer says following its time to start running south, he wont follow anymore.

Mission will say complete, its not, stay on road, until you get to Maestra's Post, Liladris Moonriver is in building on the left. Make sure u watch your timer if u run into mobs on the way, otherwise you'll have to start over @ grove of ancients if u run outta time.

No problem with the following or the waking up with the horn.

1) I accepted the quest, opened the chest and picked up the horn and off we went.
2) Stayed close and pulled the camera out to keep an eye on him.
3) When he slept, I blew the horn (you have to be very close- apparently he's a heavy sleeper or deaf).
4) About 2 mins down the road, just before the right turn to the Ashenvale coastal ruins and the Zoram Strand, the druid yelled about being careful because of Fulrbogs and a mob spawned on us to the right. They are not there normally. Triggered by the quest.
5) Mobs are Furbolg Shaman (level 19) and Warrior (level 20).
6) He ran RIGHT into the Furbolgs and was killed so fast I couldn't react.
7) Got a quest failed message.

That's the latest experience I have with this quest. No bugs, just tough. Not tried it again. Might need a group.

Peace,

Chucklehead

This quest is bugged, and it's the second bugged escort quest I've come across. I found the bear in the grove, clicked on him, accepted the quest, and he wouldn't budge. Tried blowing the horn, nothing happened, and then *poof* he dissappeared.

So I ran down to Maestra's Post anyways, still had 29 minutes on the timer, and I found him sleeping beside the building with the reward NPC. Clicked on him, blew the horn, he dissappeared. 5 minutes later, he reappeared nearby in bear form still, walked up to the crates, lay down and fell asleep. Blew the horn, nothing, poof.

Tried talking to the reward NPC but she didn't acklowledge that he was outside, even before he poofed. Timer eventually ran out and I gave up.

While definitely soloable, this quest takes maybe 5 mins if you try a different approach:

Have a team of two people. You'll note that the quest reads "bring friends"

Each of you pick up a horn.

One of you accept the quest.

The person who accepted the quest moves to the entrance of the grove, the second memeber of the team follows him.

Moving is important so he knows who to follow. Walk, don't run.

One in front, him, one in back and he never falls asleep. Quest is complete in about 1 minute.

When I went to try this quest, I was attacked twice along the way. Each time Kerlonian made a comment ("Be careful, there's lots of furlbogs in this area." "It's too quiet...") that makes it seem like this has been an added "bonus" to the quest since the patch. Maybe to make it more difficult? Neither set of ambushers is there when you walk the path alone. Anyway, the first set wasn't bad. I managed to kill the few that attacked with Kerlonian's help. But the second batch (shortly before you reach Maestra's Post) was more difficult and he was killed fairly quickly. Has anyone else tried this quest since the patch was released?
