Blood Tinged Skies

Slay 30 Plaguebats and return to Tirion Fordring.
  •
Plaguebat slain (30)

Description

Woe to those that foolishly wander into the Plaguelands. All manner of foulness inhabit these woods - from the fanatical Scarlet Crusade, who will kill any that do not bear the mark of the Crusade, to the murderous Scourge, who only look to bolster their numbers by adding more undead to their ranks.

Even the wildlife have been transformed into rapacious, man eating beasts. I ask that you destroy those that would strike from the skies: The Plaguebats.

Around (37,69) is great.&nbsp Full of Plaguebats.&nbsp Easy as a hunter - "no fear"!&nbsp Have fun.

For multitasking, pick up:
Carrion Grubbage - http://classicdb.ch/?quest=5544 and
Demon Dogs - http://classicdb.ch/?quest=5542
At the same NPC you picked this quest, as the mobs you need for the quests all roam in the same area.

The Plaguebats have an annoying ability that fears you in one direction for 5 - 6 seconds, but aren't that difficult to kill.

There is a great spot for working on three quests at the same time.&nbsp you won't complete all three here but it will complete one of the three a give you progress on the other two.

Enter the Eastern Plaguelands after you have the following quests Demon Dogs, Blood Tinged Skies, Carrion Grubbage.&nbsp The proceed to 30, 71 and just keep going in farther you will find all the bats you need for Blood tinged Skies.&nbsp The 20 Runts you need for Demon Dogs and there are Grubs in there also for Carion Grubbage.

33,77 and 23,64 all great spots as well and you will find yourself in these spots when you start grinding.&nbsp Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

Warriors, if you have the skill Berserker Rage (https://classicdb.ch/?sp=18499) you&nbsp will find this quest is a cakewalk.

Berserker Rage makes you immune to fear and stun effects for 10 seconds (so you will need to time it right but this is not hard at all) and causes additional rage to be generated upon attack. I am of corse refering to the bats annoying spell: Terrifiying Screech which can send you into all kinds of trouble the most hazourdous running into other aggro mobs.

So definately go to IF or UC and consult the warrior trainer if you dont already have the skill because it makes the quest WAY easier.

Also, because you need to kill 30 of them i would wait until your 58 or higher so you can whizz through them. Thanks for reading my comment.

You have to make sure you're killing the right mobs.. and as for the quest chain, most get all three kill quests at once Bats, Demon Dogs, and Slugs (Carrion grubbage, to get the 15 slabs of worm meat).

The bats and dogs are near him, the Slugs and Devourers are off a bit, but the ones with the highest drop rate are the higher level Devourers in EPL, otherwise you'll spend hours going after the slabs of slug meat. As a nice side bonus, the Devourers that have the higher drop rate for the slabs of meat you need, also drop Larval Acid... the higher level devourers will often drop 2 slabs at a time and during this quest I picked up 3 Larval Acid -- they don't sell as well now, but for those who do make the Hide of the Wild (lots of farming for the mats, and better cloaks do drop in outland, but not until a decent bit in if you want a nice healer cloak, and get the larval acids and have the other materials on hand, it's not a bad item to have for a dedicated healer spec or for a healing kit on non-resto druid, shadow priest, pally or shaman.

Carrion Devourer drops Larval Acid twice as often as the Grubs - Devourers are found in EPL, Grubs are in both EPL and WPL -- and the slabs of Carrion Grubbage meat for the quest, also drop far more often on the Devourers. Total time for getting all 15 pieces - took an hour or two to get 4 when I was in WPL, then I remembered that the drop rate was higher in EPL, and got all the rest in under 30 minutes -- and two of the Larval Acids.

Good luck

Once you've completed all three of his initial quests (i.e., this quest, Carrion Grubbage, and Demon Dogs), Tirion will offer (Quest #5742), the next quest in his series.

Also, a warning to protection paladins: You'll be tempted to round up a bunch of the bats and consecrate them down at once, but that's not such a good idea. There's no diminishing return on their fear effect, and if you've got three or more on you they'll quickly spam their way through any fear breaks you may have. If you're doing the other Fordring quests, pick up maybe one of these and then add in some grubs and plaguehounds.

Lvl55 Warrior:&nbsp These guys are the most annoying adversary I've been up against yet!&nbsp The best I've done is to go into Berserker and alternate between beserker rage and pummel to keep the 'fear run' down to one.&nbsp I actually made one kill without a 'fear' at all, but then followed it by three 'runs'.&nbsp And if you get double teamed --- that's all you do is 'run'.&nbsp Irony is I'm not afraid of these guys, just don't understand why I run away --- lol.&nbsp Took a break after 15 of the 30, so I wouldn't smash the computer.

8450xp per quest (x3) + 75 mobs to kill at an average about 275xp/kill (assuming the worm meat is 100% drop, which it isn't), and these quests give you

25350 for quests
+20625 for mobs

equals

45975 xp for these three quests.

at lvl 57 which requires 159900 xp, these three quests are more than 1/4 of your level.

DO THEM! especially since at 57 it's very easy killing, only took about an hour tops.

Used Will of the Forsaken to break fear a lot.

This quest has got to be the most grinding-needed one ever. As there are no nests, and you only, ONLY need the Plaguebats, it'll take some time.

Found this location with 4-10 maybe, south west of Corrin's Crossing, west of the lake. Coordnates are 55.76. Keep killing them towards the west, I promise you, LOADS!

This will definetly speed things up, happy Hunting!

oh yeah; as stated by Stagen, multitasking with the carrion worms and the Plaguehound runts etc is smart. Same quest giver, and you need to do them all to get the followup, where he tells u his grandpa's tale. (that's what I've been told ;)

HUNTERS:
The short duration fear is no problem. last about 4 seconds, and you won't even notice your pet running around as it's also drops your speed to 50%. Some of you might have figured this one out already, but track beasts!

For having to kill 30 of them, they are kind of sparse.&nbsp I've had the best luck between the Marris Stead and the Crowd Guard Tower - Lookout for the level 60 elite bat that floats around there though.

It's insane how bloody annoying these monsters are. They fear you 2+ times per fight, and dont even attack whilst you're feared - leaving you to run around like a moron for no reason.

As 57 Warrior
These bats are extremely annoying, I don't know how I kept my head killing 30 of them. Berserker rage is good for killing the fear, but they often do it twice in one fight so half the time you'll just have to hope it doesn't fear you into Duskwing or whatever that wandering huge 60 elite bat is too many times. (Got me twice) I found the most of these around the Marris Stead, north and south of the road.

btw, when I got this quest the guy was right outside some building towards Hearthglen in WPL, but he wasn't there when I went back. He was up by a house at 7,43 by the river in EPL.
