I did this quest very easily with about 20 people - I'm sure you'd be fine with less. The most important thing to do is keep Davil Lightfire and Captain Redpath alive. Have the raid leader use the built-in symbols to mark them when they show up to make it a lot easier to keep track of where they are.

I did this in a 10 man raid today and have some tips.

1) 10 man is a good number, though the more the merrier

2) It's not actually a hard battle, the hard thing is keeping Captain Redpath alive and you can't heal him.

3) Redpath is a tanking psycho and will charge headlong at everything, so get the aggro off him ASAP.

4) he is hard to spot as he and all his helpers are ghosts so are semi-transparent.&nbsp Make a macro before the battle which is
/target captain redpath
and drag the icon to your toolbar.&nbsp This way you can find him easily as he runs around.&nbsp If other people lose sight of him click his location repeatedly on the minimap to grab everyone's attention.

5) Death ain't what it used to be - the graveyard is right at the battle site.&nbsp If you die just release and rez.&nbsp This is quick and will also save casters mana.

6) Mana users - don't worry about burning mana, you will be out of battle and can drink very very often.&nbsp Pretty much any time your target dies you will be out of battle until you atack something else.

7) As the graveyard is so near and keeping Captain Redpath alive is key, don't be afraid to die for him by taking his aggro with AoE.&nbsp He's more important than you are :P

8) Once Horgus shows up everyone will suffer a hefty and incurable poison.&nbsp Get everyone on Horgus ASAP to prevent a wipe, his poison is that powerful.

9) Once Redpath the Corrupted appears you're at the end, take him down!

10) We were able to hand in the quest whilst still in raid mode without a problem, and collect the rewards.&nbsp Don't know if this is somehow limited by the number of people in your raid though or whether Bliz have fixed it (it is listed as a raid quest).

11) Got something like 16,000xp despite being level 60 :D&nbsp Would have been nice when I was levelling )

This quest bounces back and forth between like 4 people it starts with:

1 Marlene Redpath - who sends you to talk to:

2 Pamela Redpath - gives you a quest to talk to Uncle Carlin and Auntie Marlene

**She also gives you a quest to find her doll.

**Uncle Carlin ends there for now (you might have to do Defenders of Darrowshire first though) but Marlene has more for you to do.

3 Auntie Marlene - A Strange Historian (Find the ring in the graveyard and go to Chromie)

4 Chromie - The Annals of Darrowshire (Leads back to Carlin)

5 Carlin - Villains of Darrowshire / Heroes of Darrowshire -> Marauders of Darrowshire -> Return to Chromie

6 Chromie - The Battle of Darrowshire

**This is as far as I am now.&nbsp I am not entirely sure if you have to do all of Chromie's quests to unlock others but here they are:

1 Counting Out Time
2 A Matter of Time

Hope this helps.

The full quest chain:Villains and Heroes do both need to be completed in order to get Marauders. However, Defenders of Darrowshire (the Uncle Carlin chain) does not need to be completed in order to get to The Battle of Darrowshire.

Other notes on this. Duo'd with a 65 frost mage and a 58 resto shaman. Once Redpath dies, do not abandon the quest unless everything despawns. He died and I unknowingly abandoned the quest, thinking I'd failed, but everything continued to spawn. You will need to look for the Corrupted Redpath and defeat him when Captain Redpath despawns, as his death is scripted into the event. Keep him up until he despawns, however, as letting him get killed by the NPCs will fail the quest. The two ghost NPCs spawned after we'd killed Corrupted Redpath, and everything else despawned, leading me to believe that the quest was not failed to begin with. In fact, everything would *not* despawn until Corrupted Redpath was dead. That includes the Darrowshire Defenders; they kept spawning regardless of there only being the undead mobs around.

You can heal both Davil and Redpath. If you are a shaman, you can hit either of them with Chain Heal and it will jump to members of your party. However, you cannot hit your party members with Chain Heal and expect it to jump to either Davil or Redpath. Also, you can die during this fight, and as long as Redpath or Davil are still alive when you resurrect, you should be able to finish (there was one point where both the mage and I died, but the battle continued).

There are many opportunities to rest and get mana while you are completing this quest, so I would suggest taking every opportunity possible. You should, however, be careful of the Bloodletters; they hit really hard (they were hitting my shaman for about 500-700 in mail) and move rather quickly. However, they (and Corrupted Redpath) are susceptible to snares (Frost Shock, Earthbind, etc.).

Edit: Upon further investigation, Chain Heal will jump from party (and non-party) members to both Davil and Captain Redpath. It is still limited by the range thing, though, so if you're doing this with a bunch of ranged people, you may be better of with LHW/HW instead of Chain Heal.

Edited for some clarification after looking over this again.

2.3 turned this quest into what it probably should have originally been as the 5-man quest way back when. All of the minions of Horgus are now non-elite when they used to be elite and Horgus himself is only a normal elite now instead of being boss worthy himself. Only the Bloodletters at the end are elite for the regular mobs and Redpath was considerably downgraded as well.

This quest no longer requires a raid or a really good 5-man to do. Now just about any 5-man group should be able to come in and complete it.

Not a cakewalk to solo.

Basically there are three 'battle lines'. The main battle line is on the road into town. The second battle line is up on a hill to the right, within view of the main battle line. The third battle line is not in your primary line of sight, but if you draw a line due east from the center of town, you will see another small hill where there is fighting.

Captain Redpath will actually rotate between all three battle lines, which means you need to follow him around. While the other battle lines don't spawn elites like the main battle line, Captain Redpath can still take a lot of damage over time if allowed to tank the trash mobs, especially if they are allowed to back up, or if the other defenders are killed.

Your first challenge will be Horgus the Ravager, since you need to kill him as soon as he spawns. The reason being is he has an aura that will do damage to all friendly targets in range, which can markedly reduce how long the other defenders live if you don't kill him fast. He will show up on the main battle front, and you will hear the 'noise' of his aura happen every second, which should make you notice that he is there. He looks like a zombie type of mob, like the flayers in the zone.

The next challenge will be the 'bloodletters', which are elite and continually spawn. You need to be able to get these mobs off him fast if you are going to succeed. That means a tank with a taunt or some kind of pet with a taunt. You can't rely on just out damaging Captain Redpath, since every hit he takes is one hit closer to him dying. These Bloodletters have 11K health, so you won't be able to insta-kill these mobs. You are best to set him up as a focus target and then target his target, taunt, and then repeat once he changes targets.

Even with L70's helping, I would suggest that you have 3-5 people there to make it run smoothly. A healer is mandatory for the most part unless you have heal spells.

If you fail the quest, you don't have to abandon and re-accept the quest from Chromie. Just head to Light's Hope Chapel and talk to Carlin Redpath, he will have a chat bubble asking if you want another relic bundle.

Above advice very helpful! We got this done on our first try with a group of 10 mostly 60s. I liked it better that way because when I did it in a group of 20 there were so many peeps and so many mobs running around nobody could see anything! My impression was: less peeps = less mobs.

We paid no attention whatsoever to Davil. Before Redpath showed up, we assisted the Defenders with the mobs that spawn north and east of the square. The /target captain redpath macro worked fine and then I put a GOLD STAR on him. After that, he had a bodyguard of 9 60s everywhere he went, so he didn't get much fighting done. Right before Horgus showed up, Redpath ran around like crazy, and we would have been at sea without the gold star over his head.

Horgus and the Corrupted Redpath went down very quickly as soon as we spotted them, just north of the square and very near Captain Redpath's then-current location.

From my experience, it was worthwhile for me as raid leader to do nothing but spot Redpath and mark him, then mark Horgus and Corrupted Redpath as soon as they showed. TeamSpeak was very helpful in keeping our raid focused on the main task.

This was an easy raid and the rewards caused some Oohing and Ahhing. You turn it in to Pamela, who appears on your minimap as soon as the event is successfully completed. She gives you the key to her uncle's chest, which is right behind her little house. That's where the goodies are.

Not hard to find volunteers for this because a lot of people have it in their quest log forever!

did it with 5 players
but a well organized trio can handle it too
1) a tank that knows to hold aggro
2) a mage that knows how to aoe
3) a healer that knows to keep these two alive

2-3 waves includes elite minibosses
expect these waves a mage and a priest can handle easly until last wave where corrputed comes
for these minibosses and last wave you need a tank that knows to keep aggro so that redpath is being kept alive.
A funny quest that gives decent Agent Dawn rep. Some mobs give +1 a few gives +5 so all in all roughly 250~500 rep totally.

P.S chest you need to open with the key given to you is behind Pamela.

Dont miss the fun and do this quest at least once :)

I went in as a level 61 protection warrior, figuring I'd test the waters a bit. A level 70 holy paladin came along a few minutes after the start, and we completed the event together. The most important thing is to focus on the task at hand. You do not need to aggro as many mobs as possible and nuke them all into oblivion. The fight consists of three stages: defending Davil and destroying Horgus, defending Redpath and finally, destroying Corrupted Redpath. As of 2.3 (most likely), the NPC's can be healed. This is a huge help, as you can now keep the elites alive a lot easier.

During the first fase, there's Marauding Zombies and such running around, which aren't very strong and go down quickly. After a while, Minions of Horgus will start popping up, which are a bit tougher, but still no real threat. Just follow Davil around and help him fight stuff. Nothing should go wrong at this point. Once Horgus pops up, take him out. His aura, which deals a bit of shadow damage every few seconds, is both annoying and convenient. As it hurts the npc's, too, he'll draw aggro and be overwhelmed quickly.

After Horgus is defeated, Davil will get a sudden heart attack and bite the bullet. After a bit of fighting, Cap'n Redpath shows up. The undead respond by sending in the Bloodletters, which are elite, and hit around 150 on the sword 'n board. They also perform Rupture, lasting 12 seconds and ticking for around 100 damage. Soon enough, Marduk the Black will show up and corrupt Redpath, causing Corrupted Redpath to join the fight. The bad way to handle this, is to pull every bloody undead in sight and attempt to smack 'm all down. The defenders will be getting overwhelmed at this point (especially if there's just two of you), which results in a rather painful battle.

The more subtle method of pulling Corrupted Redpath with a gunshot and taking him out on his own, while the Bloodletters and corrupted militia and such massacred the defenders 100 yards away from us. The battle ends as Corrupted Redpath is defeated.

I hope you like sugar :)

This is one of the funnest quests I've experienced in WoW.&nbsp Both Davil and Redpath spawned around the north part of the town square and they both have blue glows on them to make it easier to find them.&nbsp We finally succeeded by everyone focusing solely on the mobs Davil and Redpath were engaging.&nbsp You might die a bit more but the graveyard is literally a 2 second walk from the battle site, so it's not a big deal.&nbsp Great rewards too.

Soloed this at 59 as a tankadin. Getting to the end was no problem, but using every trick in the book I couldn't even get close to killing Redpath the Corrupted, so I sat down and started reading everything I could, seeing if maybe there was a strategy that might work to kill him.

Of course, eventually he despawned, but for whatever reason, him and Davil both appeared in the town square and I was able to complete the quest.

Long story short, if you can solo your way to the end, you don't actually need to defeat Redpath, just wait for him to despawn.

To be perfectly honest, I was expecting some massive onslaught of scourge all over the place, but it's just like 7 mobs every few minutes. The NPC defenders can even hold some of them off with little trouble. Did this with 11 people. Alliance was killing the 60 elite mob at Marris Stead when we started this, and came to try and screw the quest up for us. After we finished, we killed them :D

I don't know what we did that's different, but our standard 5 man group (Warrior, Shaman, Priest, Warlock, and a Rogue) didn't have much trouble with this quest. It's not like we did anything special, either. Things appeared, we killed them with the friendly NPCs. We hung out with Davil until we killed Horgus, then hung out with Redpath until he needed to be killed. A raid? Not necessary by our non-MC-geared group. We've done it...I think 4 times, now. Just not all that difficult.

Oh, the priest is healing specced, the warrior is defense specced, the rogue is combat specced, and I'm not sure about the warlock or the shaman. Don't know how much of a difference that makes.

You are all horrible, especially the person who said you had 11 people and still wiped.

I just did this as a priest (21/30/0) in full tier2, with a warrior (full prot spec) in full teir2.

2 people. I died twice, but my tank lived the whole time, tanking basicly everything that came at us.

So, if you are doing this with any kind of gear in a raid of 5 6 7 10 11 14 w/e people, and wiping... well... you're probably alliance.

Much of what I'm posting now, other people have posted already, but adding just a few more pointers.

Did this raid after doing Quest: Order Must Be Restored (Raid) at the Marris Stead nearby, it required 20+ people and many had to leave quickly (and they did!).
We had 11 lvl 55-60 (1 'lock, 3 priests, 3 warriors, 1 pally [me], 1 mage, 2 rogues), plus one shaman who decided to help us out.

Throughout the battle, we had about 10 Alliance ghosts to aid us, about half elite and half non (I think). These do NOT heal to 100% when out of combat, as all other mobs in WoW do, and it seems you CANNOT heal them.

TIP: these ghosts, and the Undead ghosts for that matter, are really hard to see and even harder to keep track of during the battle. Make sure everyone presses "V", which enables names and health bars to be displayed over NPC mobs. I don't think we could ever have completed the quest without it.

Second, by the nature of the battle, players will find themselves conveniently OUT OF COMBAT repeatedly. It helps for mana users to have a few powerful drinks or mage crystal water to quickly recharge during the battle, because it is a long and protracted one.

Third, *Don't forget that the graveyard in the area is conveniently located near Darrowshire.* If you go down, especially when trying to tank the mobs away from Davil and Redpath, just release and rez. No biggie.

Fourth, it helps if more than one person in the raid brings their Relic Bundles. Should your group fail any of the objectives (and the quest), it makes reorganizing and restarting much faster.

LASTLY, if anyone in the group has a Seal of the Dawn or a Rune of the Dawn (from Quest: The Active Agent), make sure they equip them. Every mob you will fight is undead, and the extra attack power and spell damage will definitely be useful.

People have also suggested that, since the more people you have in your group, the more mobs spawn (and therefore the longer it takes), you can have as few people in the questing group as you want, and have others help. I personally think this takes all the fun out of it, but then again, it's also fun to screw over Blizzard's plans and designs. Your choice.

The battle has three stages:
1. You have the 10 or so Alliance ghosts, plus Davil Crokford. There is NO Captain Redpath during this stage.
Undead (hint, pallies!) elites appear about two or three at a time, and in separate locations throughout Darrowshire. The Alliance ghosts may separate you do not need your entire group protecting Davil, but just make him a priority. Remember, he (and Redpath) CANNOT be healed!
After about 4-5 waves of regular undead ghosts, Horgus the Ravager will appear along with a whole lot of elites. Our group was hard pressed to stay alive during this time, but with mana users recharging, we made it through, focusing on Horgus.

2. Davil eventually retires, and Captain Redpath appears. Just make sure he stays alive long enough for the quest to trigger his corruption.

3. Kill Redpath the Corrupted.

Speak with Davil Lightfire, Joseph Redpath and Pamela Redpath after the battle and pick up the three extra rewards behind her house. QUEST CHAIN FINISHED!

From a Druid, Ashrock of Asa Tru Guild on the WoW Druid forums:
---------

In Eastern Plague Lands as you come into the zone from WPL after a short way in you will see a small little bowl to the south of the road if you look on the big map, that is Darrowshire. Once you get into Darrowshire find the Inn type building. North West of that there is a ruined home. That is were you find Pamala Redpath a little dead girl who wants her dolly. You get 3 pieces of the doll (to make the doll) from inside the inn, you have to fight one guy per each item you pick up.

Once you pick up all three pieces right click one and it turns into the doll. GO back and talk to Pamela, she then sends you to find her Uncle Carlin, found at Light's Hope Chapel (Flight Path), and her auntie marlene? who is found in the inn type building near the cemetary by Uthers tomb. She send you to get a ring off a tomb in the graveyard right outside. Go to the little intersection there and it is NW from the center of the intersection just a tad. You bring that ring to cromie.

Cromie is the little gnome found in the Andorhal Inn, top floor back room, she and a night elf are back there. She sends you to another building in Andorhal (I believe) it is near the center of town by the Litch. It is a town hall type of building, long front room with pedestal/podiumn in the back, lots of books on the floor, open them until you get the Hisory of Andorhall (Name?). Each book that doesnt have it spawns 2 non-elite 56-58 ghouls. You kill one and the other dies, so focus on one.

At this point I believe you go back to Cromie, who fixes up the Book and send you back to the uncle at lights hope chapel. He gets excited about history and send you after a broken sword and a skull.

The skull is in a tiny little lake in the middle of WPL. Read the quest on this one it is VERY descriptive. The skull is at the bottom of the lake, you will see undead ghosts (Go figure that for odd) and human ghosts fighting eachother eternally. At their feet is the skill, you have to get close to even see it.

The sword is in the Pestilent/Infected scar, forget the name either way it is the DEEP one (farther from lights hope chapel). Look for a glowing little item with those same (as in the lake) non-aggressive ghosts standing around by it.

Head back to the Uncle. He then sends you after two more items. Davil Libram, and Redpath's shield. The shield is in front of a barn in some placed called Gahrron's Withering (Spelling?). As a druid you might have to kill one Mob to get it.

The Libram is in Hearthglenn Town hall. Personally Stealthing doesn't work and I have points in improved prowl. You cant get anywhere with it, they see right through. I took one paladin with me and it was NO problem. If you want you can have the paladin run in, get aggro and run out, meanwhile you wlak in loot the book and run out, the paladin uses his shield you use cat-> dash, and you're done.

Ok, so back to Uncle Carlin once again with these two new items. He is still excited about history.

I believe at this point you need to get the skulls (Resonating skulls) from Scourge Champions who fought in the battle of darrowshire, kind of cool, int he quest vengeance aspect here, the quest overall is pretty sad, the little girl doesnt even realize she is dead yet, killed by the undead. Anyway. This portion of the quest SUCKS. READ the quest again this time for the locations of the Scourge Champions. They are 58-60lvl mobs. They are found in areas surrounded by LOTS of other mobs so you do have to be careful to get single pulls.
Now for the reason this sucks. You have to rely on drop percentages TWICE to get one item. First that a fetid skull will drop, and secondly, that once you test it, it will turn into a resonating skull instead of bone dust.

I started this quest by dropping the bundle of relics in the town square but did not complete it. How am i supposed to start it again without a bundle of relics? Chromie does not offer me the bundle again and im not sure if i want to abandon it as some quests you can not get after abandoning it. /cry what should i do?

Be sure to have as much players as you can gather, anything will help. First of all, always keep around the entrance and don't go to the mobs, since friendly npcs will fight them. After a while, elites will appear which doesn't matter, since on your side elites will appear too. After that, Davil will appear. Be sure to JUST defend HIM, and don't do much else till Horgus is slain. Horgus can be nasty, with a lot of AoE, but just yell 'ALL ON HORGUS' and he'll go down pretty easily. After you've slain him, Davil may die which is no problem anymore. After a while, Redpath will appear. Be sure to defend him, just him, again. He'll act annoyingly, going to every side of the battlefield, but be sure to follow him and you'll do fine. After a while, some undeads in red clothes will appear, be SURE to kill them first since they're really hard. After that, Redpath will become corrupted. Nuke him under heavy fire, and your job's done. Immediately leave raid group so you can talk with him (and Davil, if you would like it) and then go to Pamela. Pamela will give you a key for behind the house, jeust walk around and see a chest next to the chimney. Cha-ching, three blues.

I went to the trouble to find a group for this (I actually got lucky in this respect, as a large guild on my server was doing it and let me tag along), took forever to complete it, only to NOT be able to complete it. We won, Redpath appeared... but I couldn't talk to him. Someone suggested leaving the raid group, so I did, as did the other person who couldn't complete the quest. While I was making my way back to talk to him, the other person did, and he proceeded to go into a scripted sequence, and disappear. What a waste of a good opportunity.
