Soft-shelled Clam Meat (10)

Description

You have the look of a fisherman, <class>! I love to fish - been fishing all my life. The best bait to use is soft-shelled clam meat; the fish just can't resist, you know what I mean?

Up north you will find a wrecked ship off the coast. Soft-shelled clams are littered throughout the area. If you bring me back 10 pieces of soft-shelled clam meat, I will give you something in return.

I found the ship at 3333

Bubbles can be found just north of the ship and at 2538

Bait was found at 2547 2340 24,43 2936 and at local wildlife in the area.

In addition to killing the mobs listed that drop the Meat, you can loot underwater clams that are in the area. There are 34-35 mobs in the area that you'll probably have to kill to be able to loot the underwater clams.

There are also a number of water logged chests if you're a rogue looking to level up your lock picking skill. Becuase of swimspeed this becomes a slow quest.

This quest is also very near https://classicdb.ch/?quest=6143 for the Horde, so you might just want to hit them at the same time.

Watch out for the crawlers on the ocean floor. They won't aggro on you (unless you attack them), but they will destroy the giant clams you need to open in order to get the meat. They run fast once they've zeroed in on a clam, so attack them before they get near it.

Location is correct and its true that enraged reef crawlers eat the clams, but if you kill them, you can loot the clam meat back.

I was doing this quest and an Enraged reef crawler ate the clam I was going for, so i decided I would kill him for it and when I did he dropped the clam. I continued killing a few more in the area and I found that they also seem to drop the clams.

Wreckage is at 32,32

Soft-Shelled Clam are scattered up and down coast around wreckage. Engraged Reef Crawlers also drop them (and steal the ones from the sea bed).

We did this last night as level 33 warlock and priest, and I think we did get the a little of the troll rep you asked about, but can't swear to it as I wasn't thinking about rep.

The map and descriptions above are great. We did it the hard way, exploring the western half of Desolace for the first time. We got as far as the fortress before we saw a way to get down to the beach (could have swum up from Shadowprey Village with only a few attacks, actually). My wife, on a better computer, could see the shipwreck from the hills overlooking the beach, and with Eye of Kilrog I finally saw it myself, as well as the path down, a bit south of the fortress full of Burning Blade.

Someone mentioned the naga if you take the easiest path down to the beach by the shipwreck, you should be able to stay to the south of them out of their way. Otherwise, it is just a matter of fighting shellfish that usually do not wind up attacking you two at once, and taking the clams after clearing usually one angry shellfish. (Though we did see a level 41 elite giant walking around underwater nearby at one point in our half hour or hour gathering 20 clams).

Don't get discouraged if someone else is farming them or the crab-creatures eat one the drop rate after they are eaten isn't 100%, but we did get one or two clams from the (lower-level) crabs who eat them. More importantly, they respawn about as quickly as you can swim around the area around the ship.

This was nice with the neverending-breath spell of the warlock, and an underwater breathing potion would work just as well. There is also, however, a bubbling air vent near the ship and one of the clams. You can breathe there instead of having to surface. I also found it useful to open the clams and loot the meat as I went, or the program doesn't keep track of how many you have.

Nice XP and reward for us, as well as filling out our map with the centaur village (Maraudon?) and fortress on the way.

This quest is retarded.
The Enraged Reef Crawlers around this area at first glance appear to be completely harmless, being "yellow", AKA Netral/Non-hostile.
WRONG.
Those little bastards scuttle around, and whenever they come inside thirty-odd yards from one of the Soft-shelled Clams lying around the bottom of the ocean, they haul ass over to it and destroy it.
Unless you happen to have Aquatic Form or a metric %^&*-ton of Swim Speed Potions and an Elixir of Water Breathing, do your blood pressure a favor and skip this quest.

This ship mentioned in the quest is acctually much closer to Ethel Rethor, keep going west from the road near there and it should be a little southwest once you get to the coast, it sticks out of the water a bit

There are actually clams on the sea floor even before you reach the ship when you come from Shadowprey Village. There's already one at 23,49 and other ones on the way to the ship. There are less mobs here, but also less clams.

This quest wasvery easy for me as long as you don't draw a big mob. Just take it slow and use any frost resistence you have. Kill the crabs too for more meat. I just found two clams close and they spawned really fast. Never found a ship though.

Easier way to get the 10 clams is head to 25,48 along the coast from the docks. Your see a clam and a few mobs, one is close to the clam so take him out. Then just farm that single clam, it respawns approximately every 2 min.

Just as the guy said about the coords: 25,48, I'd highly recommend doing that method.

At 25,48 you have one clam and at 24,44 you have another. They're very close together and with a respawn rate of 2 minutes (seems like it's less), this is quite considerably one of the fastest ways to get the quest done.

This quest is doable if you are lvl 31 or more, just be careful not to get too close to those 2 or more levels higher than you.&nbsp Start by swimming north of Shadowprey village, and check under the water every so often for the big white clams.&nbsp You can usually wait around for the monsters to move away, then dart down and open the clam and get the meat.&nbsp Be on the watch for the crabs - they will eat the clam, so you have to get to it first.&nbsp Contrary to what the quest says - you can find these clams long before you reach the wrecked boat.&nbsp And be careful with tangling with the nagas, I was mobbed several times by them.&nbsp Being undead makes this quest quite easy - since you can stay underwater 3x normal, otherwise you may need to get some water-breathing potions cause some of the dives are deep (especially the one's before the wrecked boat).

A couple of Hints

There is a neat ecocycle going on here. The enraged reef crawlers (non-agro crabs)like the clams. The crawdad men (agro) like to eat the crabs. So the Crawdad men guard the clams and wait for the crabs.

If you kill the crawdad men, often the crabs will run in and eat the clam. If you kill the crabs while they are eating that clams, often you can reclaim the clam from them.

Also note, inside giant soft shell clams are the normal size clams. Inside those are the clam meat you need for the quest. The clams don't stack, so if you have limited inventory space, make sure to get the clam meat (which does stack) out of each clam as you get it.

There is a lvl38 Elite Dwarf giant - lol, that walks along the coast if you attempt to swim to the wreck from the quest NPC. Didn't fight him, but I know the giant dwarves can be tough with their stomp.

You can get the clam meat from the shells. I found 5 that I just circled around.

31,30
33,30
33,33
32,35
34,35

Also, if you see an enraged crawler run towards one of the shells, they'll "eat" the shell. If you kill them, you get the meat they stole.

cordnates of the shipwrech are 32,32

Right off the coast, pretty simple to find. Clams are all alone the ocean floor right off the coast. Watch out for the agro lvl 34/35, but not too bad.

According to another site, if you take too long a "monster" will come and eat them. I didn't encounter this. I simply collected the clams and opened them once I had a total of 10.

If you aren't a druid or undead bring breathing pot.
