  •
Ashenvale Outrunner slain (9)

Description

We received reports that Ashenvale outrunners left Silverwing Outpost not long ago, and now sneak near our territories in the forest. We don't want them gathering intelligence on our defenses!

Sneak through the forests south of our post here and east of the Alliance outpost of Silverwing. Find and slay the outrunners, then return to me.

Good concentration of them around (70, 76). They mostly stay close to trees. Just listen for the "stealth" sound and keep hitting tab to select them as soon as they are in range.

They are simply stealthing around x=68-76 y=68-74.
For those of you without cosmos that is basicly the area between the road south of Splintertree Post and The Dor' Danil Barrow Den-a little on eithier side and also, surprisngly, I found Sharptalon hanging around.
And the NPC is out in front of the tower at the beginning of the small path into Splintertree. I hope this is clear enough to anyone working on this quest. Please lt me know if it isn't.

This quest is rather easy. Just stay south of Splintertree Outpost and slay all that you see. Every few minutes or so you'll run into a stealthy Night Elf. Tag 'em and bag 'em.

My results:
You gain 1950 experience.
Your reputation with Darkspear Trolls has increased.

Make a macro:>> /target ashenvale outrunner << and spam that while running close to town. you'll target them automatically when you get near one. ^^

Youre not able to "track" them as far away as youre used too as a hunter. They appear a couple of yards away from you. Though they arent that hard to kill. Had the job done in 5 min. 22 hunter.

The cords (70, 76) are indeed confirmed, its cravling withem there.

Coords for Ashenvale Outrunners in stealth are correct 68,76 & 69,76

...but be careful. I was ganked by Alliance in that area on 2 seperate days. I am a tempting squishy warlock target, but dang.

This is a really fun quest, I thought. It was simple to find the little buggers...but it was more difficult to actually hunt them.

There are slimes all over the area and those things have a way of creeping up on you. You cannot see the elves...they are invis...you will hear a sound when you have come within range of one and you can see a faint shape of one...usually moving. If you get to close they will attack.

Because you cannot see them from a great distance and you are sometimes surprised by them, you cannot always choose the best place to fight...and this opens you up to attacks from slimes that are creepoing around the trees and small hills and rocks.

So, the point is, it takes some prowess and a tactical approach to finding and fighting them.

Oh, and the elves are touch archers...I was sending my pet in and then shooting from a distance...the elf would run from my pet to get in ranged weapon distance and begin firing at me again.

The slimes cast a spell that slows attack...and movement by 75%...so getting one of those can make retreat impossible and making a stand difficult.

No...you can be in stealth. You will hear the stealth sound of when you enter stealth...that will tell you to look for them. It might be easier to see them since i'm level 24. They are found really close to splintertree. I found that there is a tall hill/tree near the bridge SE of splintertree where they (at least like 5) definetly spawn. Just keep running around in stealth if you have it, and listen for the "stealth sound". took me about 15 minutes to complete. they seem to pop quick

It only took a level 21 mage going solo to finish this quest..and the npc for the quest is a bit earlier on the road that leads to splintertree. watch out for the other monsters in the area though, such as that bird, something-talon...was a bit hard having that one on your back while killing off the outrunners ^^

Also look at my image , when approved.
Very close to eachother, u wont get an add , mayby a slime but thet's it.
The elves are stealthed so u gotta watch out for them.
Be carefull cause a lvl 30 bird wanders there sometimes.

beware 2 things

1) Night Elves have Shadowmeld and are invisable when they are standing still

2) That feathered mennace Sharptalon he is level 31 and his path covers the entire area u wanna fight in. If u stand on the path and aggro him u can run in to splintertree and let the guards take him off your hands for 10 mins

I think the quest is bugged... I took the quest, killed one Outrunner, left for a while, when I came back to kill some more, it doesn't add to the last I killed.

I killed 5 or so, but it still got stuck at Outrunners Killed:1/9

I was also lvl 28 mage :D Ran across that quest in my quest book when I was finishing up the old quests I had yet to do.

And yes the dratted bird killed me too. And I was sooo close to kill him too.

The loc below, 74.70, is correct. In the area is also an undead camp (75.71), probably for alliance quests and I just hang around that camp and let the outrunners find me.

If you look carefully can see a faint impression of them moving around.

You can also hear them cloak. The cloaking sound they make when they cloak/hide. But some of the undead in camp do that too so don't get mixed up.

Macro /target ash and they will be easier to spot unless it targets a dead 'un o)

I always have a target macro button in my UI, then just edit it to find certain npcs.

I killed sharptalonwitha lvl 28 druid, worth killing as he drops a level 20 quest, which is always worth it.

If too low level lure him back when u start to get low on health to the gaurds in Splintree Post, they should help you out )

On the south side of the main road going to Splintertree Post, between the post and the guard tower west of it, is a log almost parallel to the road. If you stand on that log facing south, there is an Outrunner spawn point right in front of you. They pop every 6 minutes or so, and they are not invis when they pop, so you can get them before they stealth-invis.

I did this at 22-23 as a shaman. The Outrunners are 23-24. Hit them with Lightning Bolt for opening damage, then use Flame Shock: the DoT part keeps the mob from re-invising. Frost Shock is good, too, because these guys will disengage from direct melee to back up and bowshoot you. You can slow 'em with Frost or stun 'em with Stomp if you're a Tauren, but keep them in direct melee with you or your pet if possible, because their bow damage is pretty good.

There are slimes/goos there too that will proximity aggro you on the log occasionally, but you can zap these in between the Outrunner spawns to keep up the pace if you're not patient. Don't go too far south, because the named level 31 dragon for the 4 nameds quest paths through there south of the log, going east-west and back.

To start the cycle, move a little south of the log so the Outrunner can backstab you. Then nuke him/her and kill. There are actually two spawn points here, one right in front of the log about 10 yards south, and another to the east by some rocks. Since these mobs stealth-invis, you don't want to move into aggro range of two at once, unless you like dying :-)

this quest is quite hard, i suggest u stick to one part of an area..

1)stay as far away from the sharptalon,he's your cause for your great amount of deaths, stay out of his sight.

2)i suggest sticking to one part of an area, those slimes can cause trouble at a wrong time,

3)clear out the lands,so you'll be safe from aggro, and your road back will be safer,it'll be slow but worth it.

4)the elves are stealthed, but will be visible wen they attack you,a bad time when clearing out lands, gets you all of a sudden.

if you decide to folo my advice,u shud be quite safe,at least a death or so

my score,deaths:5(thks to the stupid talon!)
if your doing the shredder manual quest thingy,it'll be quite good, manage to find three or so pages of the manual. xp:1950(i think)

If you just run a loose circle around the camp of forsaken you shouldn't have any problems with aggroing anything but Sharptalon evey 5 or 10 min or so. His path crosses the back side of the camp up the hill.

I finished the quest easy but I went back to splintertree post and can't turn it in... the dude isnt on my map and i cant find him... anyone know where he is?

The main difficulty is the adds from the slimes and wolves. Also be vary of the lvl 31 gryffon that paths in the same area. You can also do this from the undead tent area, they are neutral to you but will attack the elves.
