An Unholy Alliance

Bring Ambassador Malcin's Head to Varimathras in the Undercity.
Ambassador Malcin's Head

Description

Malcin claims he is outside Razorfen Downs. This ambassador must be slain--his mission a failure in the eyes of the Lich King.

His presence there does explain much of what we've discovered about the area--some of the quilboar have grown frightfully powerful while showing signs of the Plague in their own way. Truly that must be a sign of some sort of deal they've struck.

Find Malcin and slay him, <name>. Return to me after the deed is done.

The Ambassador is located at one of the 4 tents in the area.&nbsp He is not in the instance.&nbsp Also ontop of the hill is another npc which gives you a quest to kill those elite battleguards, thornweavers, and geomancers.&nbsp Hope that helps...

Taken from my post about Malcin:

Malcin isn't exactly easy to find... more of a pain, but the quest rewards for killing him are decent (or vendor well).

He can be found in three different spots:
1. The first tent as you enter the RFD thistled area.
2. Take a right at the first fork you encounter, and you will see two tents. He's in between them, with about eight other mobs.
3. The final is past the second - follow the path to the next fork, and hang a left. He'll be at the end when you hit the wall. Worth noting is a rare spawn mob named Ambassador Bloodrage (https://classicdb.ch/?npc=7895).

simple instruction

Once you walk in off the road go straight.&nbsp You will get to a set of tents.&nbsp Do not take the path to the left, but the one on ure right.&nbsp

you will pass a stone with red markings continue straight through this area.&nbsp I think there is only onne path to take here anyway.

As you enter the next area it will get a little dark and you will see another set of tents

Take the parth you see to ure left and follow it.&nbsp you will see a tent with 2 guards and Malcin is in between them

Hope this Helps!

Finally found him, in the back of the thorns stuff maze past the entrance to the instance.&nbsp

Even though i could see the piggys, i had to get a little closer to see him, he was not cloaked, so i don't know why that was.

I killed Malcin and tried to avoid as much damage as i could from the 4 mobs protecting him, once he was dead, i ran the 15ft to thousand neadless and the mobs retreated.

He was at 48, 91 for me. Not the above coordinates.

Edit, apparently he respawns in different places. He is at 48,92 now. So keep a lookout in all the tents. Good luck.

This is very good place to practice using Mind Control. The ambassador will spawn randomly, but always with one or two guards nearby. Mind control the damage dealer (NOT the ambassador), and hope that the two others will punch it down. In my case, the Acholyte had nearly no HP left, so it was relatively easy to take him out. If you're low on mana, make a break for it to lose aggro, heal up & then repeat the procedure to take both the ambassador & the last guard down on hp.

Well, last night I decided to try this quest. Now, even though the mobs are outside RFD, there is no mention in my quest notes that it is an elite quest, just that it is a level 36 quest. Make no mistake, though, you are gonna have to be GOOD to complete this at 36 solo. I made my way all the way to the instance zone at first expecting to see him to the right of the zone. Nope. I eventually found him on the ledge overlooking 1K needles. Basically, if you enter the RFD area via the Darkcloud Pinnacle route and then just stay right. He was down a fork to the right, which also overlooked 1K Needles. There was a hut he was standing outside of. He looked to be a robe-wearing undead.

He was surrounded by 3 or 4 friends (1 battleguard, a caster, and 1 or 2 regular warriors). I was able to solo pull and kill one of them. But could not get him solo. Finally I developed this strategy which maybe borders on an exploit, but which I consider just good gameplay:

Stand near the ledge to 1K Needles and attack the Ambassador from range. He will come running, as will his friends. If you are lucky, he will start chain casting shadow magic on you. Well, if you run all the way to the ledge (dont fall off) and then get as far from the mobs as possible, his friends will give up and return to their bind points, leaving the good ambassador standing there solo, still casting shadow magic on you. He is a 36 Elite mob, but was pretty easy. I am a 36 shaman. It took me a couple tries to get this right, but I didn't die because running to the ledge always caused the mobs to return to their spawn points.

Also, all mobs in this area are 33-36 Elites. This is not easy.

Level 41 here, rogue. I just pulled the mobs around him 1 by 1 except for the death cultist that was in front of his house. Then i sapped the cultist and attacked malcin. Just as malcin died the cultist un-sapped. Pretty simple. 48,92 in the hut.

1) Malcin only has TWO "helpers." Anything else can be pulled away easily.

2) Solod this as a 40 hunter, easy mode. Could have done it 2 or 4 levels earlier but hadn't had many chances to get to RFD beforehand.

Strategy:
Find Malcin. Track Undead picks out him and him only (as a previous poster mentioned.) Threw a multishot onto him and his 2 guards, sent pet onto 1 guard, nuked Malcin. He died within 20-30 seconds. Took down one of the guards as well before I lost pet and feigned. Eat/Drink, rez pet, send pet on 3rd helper, take it out. Loot head.

If I was lower than 40th, I would have done exactrly the same except I probably wouldnt have killed the two guards just feign let pet die, send pet onto guards, run in loot, and run away.

Easy quest, hardest part is running around RFD entrance to find him!

PS: If I wasn't BM, Iwould have nuked Malcin only and then suicided my pet a second time to run and loot, piece of cake. In addition, I never bothered to use an ice trap..

Clear the mobs around him, so when you go for him, battleguards don't aggro you.
We were three around lvl 35 who went in there and did this quest.

Start from the entrance where you're between RFK and RFD. just go straight and he's right there inside that hut. If your a hunter, track UNDEAD cause he's not a humanoid. so right when you enter the rfd entrance, just go a little straight and he's right there

the coords these people gave are wrong.

soloed it as lvl 34 undead frost mage. group of allies helped a bit by killing mobs on their way to RFD, but it only quickened the quest - could make it without them as well. i managed to draw one mob at a time from around the house. didnt kill all tho - only enough so i could shoot at ambassador without drawing any aggro. so group of 2 or 3 mobs near tent was still standing there. ambassador itself isnt very tough

I am a lvl 40 undead mage and I have been trying to get Malcin's head for much too long. I have attempted this quest at lvl 36, lvl 38 and lvl 40. At lvl 36 I tried it solo and learned my lesson quickly, even though I was very tactical in my approach to the mobs, trying to take 'em on one at a time. So I went back with a lvl 35 warrior as a helper, still trying to only attack one or two creatures at a time, but there was always a group of three that we couldn't seem to split up.

We gave up for a week or so and tried again when I was lvl 38 and my warrior helper was lvl 36 - still no luck, even though we were able to clear out much of the area. So we had to give up again.

Last night we tried again, with me at lvl 40 and my warrior friend at lvl 37. Once again we were able to clear out many of the areas, but the damn creatures respawn very quickly. We did not locate Ambassador Malcin and we died a couple of times when a group of three mobs teamed up on us.

So now I've had it with this stupid quest. I've tackled much higher level quests solo with no problems. This one is rated at lvl 35 but I can't do it solo as a lvl 40 undead mage or even with a lvl 37 warrior by my side.

Either they should raise the posted difficulty lvl of this quest to be more in line with how hard it is or they should make the damn thing a little easier. Any lvl 60's out there wanna give me a hand one last time?Screw Ambassador Malcin and this friggin' quest

Took me a looong time to find this guy. Couldn't find any good maps of this area outside the instance. After you enter from South Gold road, go into the first large open area, then I took the Right passage (south-eastish) then followed that past the open area with the big rock with the flying things painted on it, then the next open area has two houses in it, he was in the first, westernmost house. I stealthed in there, killed him and then just hearthstoned out.
