Fiery Blaze Enchantments

Acquire a Black Drake's Heart for Sigrun Ironhew.
Black Drake's Heart

Description

As an apprentice to Feranor Steeltoe, I learned his special technique for imbuing weapons with fiery enchantments. Last I heard of him, he was working at a smithy with a hunting party up in Lordaeron.

I can't tell you too many of the details about the process, but I can tell you it requires blood from a rare, still-beating black drake whelp's heart. I don't have much to do waiting for word from Ironforge. If you bring me a heart from the whelps in Lethlor Ravine, I'll show you my skill!

As a side-note related to lore, Feranor Steeltoe is the dwarf guy in the second mission of the human campaign in Reign of Chaos.
He asks Arthas to kill a black dragon, Searinox, and gives him a fire orb, which acts a little like the reward of this quest.

I wouldn't put this on your main weapon.

It has an AoE effect and it will awaken anything around you that has been sheep'd, sap'd, or put to sleep if your weapon proc's with this enchantment.&nbsp You want to piss off your entire group in a dungeon, then go ahead and slap this baby on your main weapon.&nbsp You'll be lucky to find a group again.&nbsp The drop rate for this thing sucks and I wouldn't waste my time on it.&nbsp I got it today after killing about 80 whelps.&nbsp Now I've decided to just let it sit and rot in the bank unless I find a good secondary weapon to put this on that I would only use in PvP or soloing.&nbsp DO NOT PUT THIS ON YOUR MAIN WEAPON AND GO INTO AN INSTANCE.&nbsp YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

There is a valley of whelps you can farm for this quest drop. The drop rate is pretty low so it can take a while if you don't get lucky early on. Valley entrance is around 68,52 and the mobs are non elite 41-43. Only reason it's marked as elite is because there are elite dragons nearby but you don't need to encounter them for this quest.

This item should not be mistaken for Firey enchantment.

I've also heard that this one is bad for instances, since it procs a AoE attack, that will hit sheeped/trapped targets, and will break them.

The drop rate isn't the greatest, but it does drop. I got mine from the elites, not the whelps - but it drops from them, too.

At level 48, this quest was green, and yielded 3900 XP and an "increase" in my Ironforge reputation.

About 20 whelps, no drop. After 40 elites, it dropped.

The quest is an elite quest, so it makes sense you need to kill elites to get it.

Bad advice on going for the elites.&nbsp There's only a .4% increase in the drop rate over the whelps.&nbsp Those of you that got the drop after one or two elites were just getting lucky.&nbsp

I personally killed 7 elites without getting the drop before going back to the whelps.&nbsp The .4% increase in drop rate doesn't even come close to justify wasting the time and risk involved in killing an elite instead of a normal mob.

Got it off the Larger Elite dragons.

First off, you can find the elite dragons in Lethlor Ravine, all the way on the easternmost side of the Badlands. When fighting one of them, make sure you have some sort of heal ready, as they do nothing but breathe fire all over you. They never stop doing it either, and needless to say, it hurts. That being said, it'd be in your best interest to have some sort of health regenerating implement on stand-by.

I didn't really count but think it was less than 10 (never saw the elite guy) before I got the heart.&nbsp Of course then I had to kill a few more to get back out of the area.&nbsp :)

I killed several at the north entrance, then followed the coords and went to the southern entrance. Dropped on the 4th or 5th one (pulled two at once).

It took me 3 attempts to do this. I literally killed at least 50 of the 41-43 and about 20 of the elites...I did get a dark whelpling drop though. If you are a skinner/leatherworker it is worth your time..tons of thick leather. just be patient or lucky. very easy to solo as a 47 hunter.

It speaks a lot to the drop rate on this quest that I got a Tiny Black Whelpling before I got a Heart. I still haven't gotten a Heart from killing them, despite probably 100+ kills. I'm not sure it's really worth it at this point.

Kill the scalding whelps till you get the heart. I suggest grouping to kill vast numbers. One dropped and both members of my group could loot it.

Spent like 2 hours killing whelps all across the area, went to 68,52 as stated and got it on the 4th whelp. That area seems to be the best spot for the drop.

Killed about 25 small welps as a lvl 42-43 warrior. Great xp with rested bonus, but no great drops and no heart. I have to go back with friend to try out the elites. Flaming sacks are nice for the the dragonbreath chilli though.

Can anyone explain this enchant? Does it overwrite, is it any good? etc

Edit: after a bit browsing :
This enchant is a aoe spell that does 15ish dmg, being useless cause it breaks all cc spells and overwrites ur perma enchant.

Got this on my 6th whelp. I didn't even try for the elites. I was a lvl 40 Paladin and the 3900XP and Enchant was very nice for my level.

Note to Paladins: Fire resistance Aura works very well here, cutting damage down loads. Helped me alot.
