People put bad information here, and make us lose a lot of time.
To make things clear about the dark portal, you DON'T need to kill doomguard as someone posted here. As you can clearly read in the quest, who you need to kill are the felguards!

For the part in Jaedenar go to the second cave, right above the "N" in Jaedenar on your map.&nbsp If you try to run through the cave you will only find 3 or 4 Legionairres and the drop rate isn't that great, I was lucky and got mine the 6th kill, but others have spent much more time in there waiting for respawn.&nbsp So here is some help that I didn't know until after I completed this quest.&nbsp You will get a drop for a Blood Key, this starts another quest for the Night Elf that is in the cage at the beginning of the cave.&nbsp By taking this quest you will see about 10-12 legionairres.&nbsp Bring a friend though cause this isn't easy, or rely on Banish if you're by yourself.&nbsp I did this at 53 then got help from 60 warrior.

there are two caves at jaedenar. the first one is the one you would have gone in. that one is called "the deceivers shrine" or something cant remember. but instead of going in there, go past it and up around to the right. you will see another big cave/door. they are in there and that place is called the jaedenar hold. Legionairres are massive lv55's down the bottom of that. You can't miss them.

This took a bit of care but I was able to get the essense to drop from the felguard that patrol the portal by

waiting for them and their felhunter pets to get a good distance from the level 57 guys

banishing the felhunter

sending the voidwalker to fight the felguard and loading him up with DoTs

fearing him once he came after me (which wasn't too long)

banishing the felhunter again as he was probably back on me by this time

reapplying DoTs on the felguard and running like heck to get out of there

Eventually the felguard dies and the felhunter gives up the chase and I could simply go back and loot the felguard.&nbsp I tried fighting the felhunter once but didn't get very far since he would resist quite a lot of what I could throw at him while burning away my mana.

The essense dropped on my third attempt at this.&nbsp The first time I tried this I was a little too close to the 57 and he came after me too so I just ran away.

Now I still need to get the other two..&nbsp made one quick try in felwood but didn't have enough time to prepare and had to run when three felhunters came at me at once in the cave.

Just a note... be careful when you get the piece from Felwood. Hubby is a 'lock and I was helping him, and you go into a cave (as a previous poster said). Also in that cave is an escort quest... and part of the escort quest summons three doom guards.

These can literally spell your doom if you aren't paying attention. As a note, there's a small strip of water that bisects the cave with two oozes in the water. Those three doom guards summon into the chamber before the oozes.

Other than that, the quest was pretty straight forward.

Spent over an hour today farming felguard sentries in Blasted Lands. They are lvl 54-55, patrol the area around the Dark Portal ( SE corner of the zone ), each one is paired with an equal-level felhound. Easily soloable at 53 ( petattack & dot the sentry, banish the felhound, repeat until everyone's dead ). Just one problem: they don't drop the essence? I killed no less than 20 pairs, to no avail.

OTOH, Azshara essence dropped from ~5th satyr ( middle of the northern coast in Azshara ), and Jaedenar essence dropped from the very first legionnaire met ( they live in a dungeon, so it takes some work to get to them in the first place ).

You'll find the Felguards patrolling around the edge of the Dark Portal, which is at about 58,53 in the Blasted Lands.

Since the BC was released, there are fewer than there used to be, because now the Portal has been opened, and where there used to be a tonne of Felguards, there's now a destroyed Alliance / Horde camp :)

Be careful not to aggro the random humanoids that are standing around the edge of the portal - you literally cannot kill them unless you have a specific quest, so if you get aggro, all you can do is run until you lose it.

I'd say this quest is a bit tough on a level 50. Anyway, did it at 50 with some help in the end. Had some luck with the drops The Legionaire dropped on the first one and BTW they are in the northern cave there.
Azshara is definetly the easy one.
Blasted lands is the hardest where the 55 doggy keeps breaking and resisting the banish - I had no idea you can break early from banish.
Try to look for the 54 ones for a more reasonable fight.

I have no idea how you guys had the patience to wait and not do this at level 50.

I don't know why you are saying that it is so hard to get this item in jaedenar, i had it on my first kill and had absolutely no problems getting their. So either im very luck or you are just all very unlucky :D

I did this with my first 'lock about 10 months ago and enslaved the felhound that accompanies the sentries in the blasted lands and it worked like a charm. Tried it last night with my latest 'lock and still haven't gotten the drop after at least 6 kills. Doggone fels will only stay enslaved for a minute max - this char's lvl 52 and the hounds I'm trying to enslave are 54. A minute enslave is probably generous too - typically by the time I had a couple of dots on the sentry, they were both running at me to start pounding. The sentries are mainly 55 - although I saw one 54. Unfortunately that was just when my router decided to die. Guessing I'll be making a corpse run tonight after the new router's up and running.

Got the drop off the Legashi on the first one. Came right after a 60 NE Rogue had jumped me just as I attacked the first Satyr. If my felhunter hadn't died, I'd have gotten both the Rogue and the Satyr. Once the felpup was dead, I just didn't think fast enough to enslave the Satyr I had been attacking to use against the rogue. Cheap mofo's - most of a lvl 52's spells are resisted by a lvl 60. Even so, still managed to make her sweat for the HK a bit.

Kusaur, the Legashi encampment is located at the coordinates 51,19. The first one I saw was a lvl53 rogue and it gave me 2 runecloth.

Felwood - 51, 19 is in the north end of the Irontree Woods - no Jadenar around - did not see the Jadenar Legionairres in Jadenar - am I missing something?

I wish my level 20 lock was 50, I really do........ I WANT MY INFERNAL AND FELGUARD!

One note -- I came across this quest earlier and did not realize it was for my Infernal summon. This starts in Felwood, at Niby and Impsy, who you can easily find by following the road through Felwood to the Bloodvenom Falls area he's just off the road to the north of there. Had died on way there. Res'd at graveyard and headed SW, towards the 61.26 coord reported here. Killed first satyr I encountered and got my Fel Essence.

I am level 51 at this time.

For the Jaedenar Legionnaires I went into the cave called Shadow Hold. As statet below it at the top of Jaedenar near the yellow pool.

You have do enter the building at the end of Jaedenar... Legionnaires are in the tunnels.

To get the fel essence in felwood. Go in to the jaedenar tunnel (the one at the top near the moonwell with yellow water) follow the tunnel all the way until you come to the room with the remains of trey lightforge on an alter in the middle surrounded by warlocks and a named succubus.

Pull the succubus in to the corridor and waste her then just to the right of the door is a Jaedenar Legionnaire (big blue demon looking guy) pull him in the corridor and hey presto your essence!

Easy! In the tunnel the rooms co-rds are (83,50)

u obtain this quest at lvl 50 not 51 to clarify

Very easy to solo as a 53 Warlock. The hardest one which wasn't even too bad was in Felwood, took me 4-5 kills to get the drop. The other 2 dropped the first kill :) I found mine at

Felwood 51,19 is in the middle of Irontree woods and NO Jaednar legionnaires

For once, I didn't find the previous posts on this quest very helpful. The most difficult task in this quest, by far, was obtaining the shard from the Jaedenar Legionnaire. I suggest you wait until you've obtained the other two shards before going after that one (even though its the closest one to the quest giver). If you cannot obtain the Azshara and Dark Portal shards with minimal difficulty, you will not be able to get the Jaedenar shard and can save yourself a lot of insane wasting of time that you could be using to level up instead. The easiest by far was the Azshara shard. The satyrs that drop them can be picked off individually and are scattered around a wide area. Hopefully you will be powerful enough to handle an add because it may be necessary. As reported below, the drop rate is not all that bad and in all likelihood you should get one within four or five kills (read below).

When you travel to the Blasted Lands, you will find that the Dark Portal Felguards agro somewhat stronger than the Azshara satyrs and all travel with Felhounds. Banish may or may not work on the Felhounds, so be prepared to take on both in every fight. DO NOT take the narrow canyon passage that leads to the Portal or the Felguards will find you as opposed to the other way around. Cautiously enter the foothills and you should be able to choose your targets wisely (you will see the Felguard/Felhound pairs patrolling the area). Be advised that you can easily agro a nearby duo during your fight, so use caution when choosing when to engage. The Felguards can move pretty quickly. I learned this the hard way and lost two Voidwalkers to sacrifice so I could run to safety without getting killed. Like Azshara, unless you are unlucky, you should get your shard within the first few kills.

Finally, the Jaedenar Legionnaires are much more difficult, not because the are more powerful, but because they are rarer and are protected by Warlocks. To make it more difficult, you have to pick your way through the camp to get to the second underground complex and then to work your way down to get to the Legionnaires. As reported below, the drop rate here can be very bad, so the equation of difficulty is made worse by low spawn rates, few targets and many bad guys to wade throught to even get the chance of getting a shard drop.

I made the mistake of persisting in trying to do Jaedenar first and got punked in every way imaginable. I don't advise trying it as a level 50 Warlock. Too much aggravation by horrible bad luck, respawns, no drops and untimely death. Psychologically its better to work up to it, because then you know you've got two thirds of the quest done and it gives more incentive to finish it off. The other thing for me was that after killing many many legionaires over the course of several visits to Jaedenar, after I went out and got the relatively easy drops at Azshara and the Blasted Lands, when I returned to Jaedenar, I got the Legionnaire drop on the very first kill. Coincidence? Hmmm!

Easily helped my lvl 51 Warlock farm for these was lvl 55-57 Priest. Only took 10 kill tops at each of the mobs for it to drop. Very easy. The lvl 55 Elite at the end wasn't hard at all. Just keep him soloed

Why dont you idiots tell people something useful? Like where they are. No one cares how easy it was for you and saying something is on a beach is just as specific as the jackasses that right the quest in the first place.

Easily soloed this quest at level 52, most parts where easy just banish any demon add and its easy, badlands was definately hardest part dropped off 6th or 7th guy.i completed other quest too and got the robes of servitude, very awesome.

When u are killing the guys in The dark portal watch out for the Servents of Razelikh. I dont know what was going on, but when a lvl 57 one attacked me i took him down to 35 health and he wouldn't go any lower, just kept hacking on me. I had all my dots ticking and he didn't ever die. Also, the felguards have a horrible droprate for the fel essence. I killed 20-25 before i got it.
