Ancient Equine Spirit

Acquire special horse feed used for feeding a spirit horse. Merideth Carlson in Southshore apparently is the source for such food.

Travel to the Dire Maul dungeon in Feralas and slay Tendris Warpwood. Doing so will free the Ancient Equine Spirit. Feed it the special horse feed, thereby soothing the spirit. Finally, give it the Arcanite Barding so it may bless it.
Arcanite Barding
Manna-Enriched Horse Feed
Provided Item:
Arcanite Barding

Description

Your barding needs a special form of blessing, one from an appropriate spirit. In Dire Maul is such a spirit, the Ancient Equine Spirit. It is currently held by a corrupt treant, Tendris Warpwood. Pass judgment upon this foul beast, <name>.

Know this - freedom alone is not enough. You must soothe the spirit before receiving its blessing. For that, special horse feed is needed. Travel to Southshore first and speak with Merideth Carlson on this... and prepare for more sacrifice.

the quest is in the western part of dire maul, you have to kill tendris warpwood, (takes about 10 mins to get to him) when he dies a spirit horse appears, talk to the horse... hey presto you completed the quest....

OK.&nbsp I was very frustrated over this, but it's fine now.&nbsp There are TWO quest chains that roll into one for the epic mount.&nbsp In order to get the Ancient Equine Spirit quest you must also finish a separate quest chain called "Exorcising Terrordale".&nbsp I tried to do the Exorcising Terrordale quest before this one and ever time I killed a spirit I DIDN't get credit for the kill.&nbsp After doing the blessed "Arcantie Barding quest" Lord Grayson took the barding from me and didn't give me the Ancient Equine Spirit quest or give me the barding back.&nbsp I then re-tried the Terrordale quest (and got credit for the kills) and turn it in to Lord Grayson and he then gave me the barding back and the next quest - Ancient Equine Spirit.&nbsp Hope this helps others.

If you have a higher-level character and a friend who is willing to group with you (doesn't need to go with you), you can solo this quest by putting your Paladin just inside the door and clearing the patrols then Warpwood. The equine spirit will come out regardless of whether you're on the quest or not. Log off of the other character and switch to the Paladin and run in. The equine spirit will still be there.

No, you can not solo this 60 elite tree.&nbsp We tried to do it with a party of 3.&nbsp Myself (a 60 pally), a 60 druid and a 57 rogue.&nbsp We got owned.&nbsp However, we got the help of a 60 priest and we were able to kill him.&nbsp The priest and the rouge died in the process and I had to use lay on hands and a major mana pot to pull this off.&nbsp I also switched to my 1H Axe of the Deep Woods and a 2000+ armor Observer's Shield for extra armor.&nbsp I usually use a 2H weapon (retribution pally).&nbsp The druid fought in bear form.

Also, the tree is very easy to get to and you do not have to fight any mobs before hand.&nbsp The tree will be directly in front of you when you enter the instance.&nbsp Just sneak past the patrols by staying to your right.&nbsp Then hug the wall, cut a couple of corners and you will see a ramp going down to the tree.

I also had a problem with the pesky disappearing barding. I finished all the quests up to the Dire Maul part, and had the enriched horse feed in my backpack. I started looking around for the barding, which other paladins told me I must have in my inventory in order to complete the DM part, but, alas, no barding! Off to IF I go thinking maybe I had stuck it in the bank. No dice! No barding! 400g down the tubes! But, if this happens to you, do not panic as I did. I opened a ticket and a very helpful GM told me to abandon and retake the Anchient Equine Spirit quest, which I did. Viola! Unblessed Arcanite Barding is magically in my inventory. Horse feed is still there too :) Off to DM I go! Moral of the story: If your barding disappears, just abandon and retake as previous posters have advised. It worked for me, and it can work for you.

But Lord... it was scary.

Duo'd this with a 60 druid while a 60 Holy Paladin (37/14/0). Be sure to kill all of the patrols in the courtyard just before Tendris Warpwood's room so he will have no reinforcements when he calls for them. A challenging and long fight. Max hit on me with Devotion Aura up was around 900. Druid healed only when absolutely necessary and went bear form if she stole aggro until I could regain it. I had to shield twice during the fight to bandage.

Make sure you have about 50 gold and 20 Enriched Manna Biscuits from Chillwind Camp in order to get the Manna-Enriched Horse Feed. You'll get it from the stables in Southshore. The quest link for the feed is http://classicdb.ch/?quest=7645

Just so you folks know as of 1.10 tendris will summon all the alive protectors to his aid when he is attacked. My group found this out the hard way as 5 59 elites and a horde of 58 elites they aggroed on the way in caused us to have a quick trip to the graveyard. so Clear the courtyard of all the protectors ( the big 59 elite trees) before you attempt to kill tendris

Tendris Warpwood is in DM West. The west entrance is the door on you left hand side. You need a key or a rogue with picklock skill >:P

The boss is pretty easy, even the mobs before the boss is more difficult. When you enter, its the first boss in the END OF THE BIG COURTYARD.

Simpelly kill it, and talk to the horsy that wanders around in the boss room:D

Just spent all the gold and time to finish this long quest line.
me (63 pally), 65 pally, 70 Lock... Did DM in like 15 min.... if u dont have key or cant pick the lock... die in front of door (we used devine intervention not damage taken) and rez on other side and open door. EASY.

In the basement we simply judged the spirits... Drank when we werent in combat and Killed the Dark Reaver... was actually easier than I thought..

I spent about 460g... much cheaper than buying one... and it is so BAD ASS!

god knows what blizz were thinking when they changed how Warpwood fights in Dire Maul, he used to be quite a soft boss, easily killed 4/5 man, i know this because i help a guild friend do this part of the quest last week.
went there last night to do it for myself and bang, he calls for help and 4 58elite trees come. how the f**k is that right? from 5v1 to 5v5, this is supposed to be the easy part, god only know what theyve done to the scryer part which i now doubt i will get to, 500g spent and nothing to show for it

the easiest way to do this quest im told is to do it with 4 pallies and a mage or a priest...for priest its easier at some parts and for mage its easier at some parts...i guess if you like healing more you take the prist and for more dmg you take the mage...when i do this quest ill try and grab a priest

This guy is in a lower room on other side of large courtyard when you enter the west wing of DM. You must clear the large trees patrolling the courtyard before taking on Tendris cause he calls them. Small treants not necessary to clear. Has a powerful punch so make sure you've got good armor.

Blizzard changed some things in 1.10 for this quest (may have been an earlier version I hadn't done this for a month or two before tonight). You used to be able to run past the patrols, get right to Warpwood and take him down. Took maybe 5 minutes. Now, he calls out for help and the tree patrols from the previous hall all come down and help him. So it seems you now have to clear the patrols from the hall before you go after Warpwood. We found this out the hard way :-)

I only had the barding. Was a little fast and didn´t read the quest text :S
But this is the really confusing part. I handed in the barding to Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker on its own. No horse food or anything else. But i didn´t get the next quest either and now the barding is gone. Talked to a GM and he said I am supposed to follow the other paladin quest Emphasis on Sacrifice. So now I´m totally confused. What do I do now?
