Fairly straight forward quest. You might have better luck finding turtles out in the water, as the turtles on land tend to be camped to pieces. I have never figured out why so many level 60s love to kill those turtles...

BTW even if you don't fish, you still need to do this quest. The fishing rod sells for a good bit (can't remember specifics beyond 1+g).

I would say keep the rod, chances are you'll probably start fishing out of boredom! (and from the money you can make from fishing at 70!);D

Quest rewards are soulbound, so alliance has to stick with the big iron pole.

If you go straight North from the town you will see the turtles, they are hard to miss.

Nice, this quest was very easy- the turtles are right there on the shore. There's also a pretty easy quest to kill an elite turtle from the same guy. The reward is a "limited edition" fishing pole that adds +25 to fishing. I think it must be Horde only.

Someone somewere said that this fishingrod could be disenchanted, and that it would drop a Golden pearl around 40-60% droprate. This however is NOT true, this item cannot be disenchanted.

Is this fishing pole only for horde? Can alliance go kill the guy to loot it? I really wouldn't mind getting it as a backup weapon since I have maxed out my fishing skill so I can hit pretty well with my fishing pole. And it'd be a defense if I ever get ambushed in the middle of fishing.

And here I was wanting to have it just to feel like I am a better fisher than I am now, My fishing skill sucks! Too bad it's only Horde. I thought it would look pretty neat to have a green item fishing pole in my pack

Talk about prejudice. Why is it that Horde gets this and not Alliance? Balance, my foot.

Maybe with the new fishing event in the next patch, things will change.

my question is this, whats up with the arcanite fishing pole, Ive heard many things about it. Is it only 1 per a server or can many peps have it, if so what lvl.

I've got this one today. I haven't done anything with it though but I love it. I often need to fish for alchemy potions so I can use a good fishingpole.

I've done this quest at level 46. (shaman) It's no problem if you take the level 49 turtles, level 50 is a bit harder but also possible.

This quest is worth doing even if you don't fish. The pole will sell for 2g78 at a vendor and while killing the turtles there are chances for nice drops. (I found a black pearl doing this quest)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that says Bind on Pickup, and aren't like 99% of ALL quest-given items BoP? I can't think of any quest I've ever done where I got the item and immediately took it to the AH...

"Skill while hitting with fishing pole is unarmed."

Not very observant. If you bothered to look (and assuming your fishing is 300+) you will see your melee attack is actually based entirely on your buffed fishing skill. That's right kids... with this pole, and a Aqua Fish Attractor applied to it, you will have a melee att skill of 425. Know anyone with 425 UA skill? Thought not. On my lvl 60 rogue, that's about 90-95 DPS in a melee fight. How sad would it be, to get ganked with a fishing pole?

Unarmed indeed.... *sniff*

Ok just to end the confusion once and for all...

As a few enlightened individuals below have said, your attack skill when using a fishing pole is your fishing skill, including buffs. If you have a 425 buffed fishing, then you have a 425 attack skill using a fishing pole as a melee weapon (check the paper doll attack skill rating to see this). Your polearm/axe/sword/unarmed/etc skill has NOTHING to do with it, it is ONLY based on fishing skill.

So yeah, once you hit 44 and get this, you could have a 425 (or higher with enchants) attack skill. This isn't that massive of a weapon, but hey, it's decent, and how hilarious is killing things with a fishing pole? :)

And I guess I am not the only allie who would be willing to pay a lot of gold to get one of these (and of course not to be foolish and try to use it as a weapon)

No wonder we allies always lose, if we have only our +20 fishing poles and you get these IMBA +25 fishing poles :)

If you're rested you can get up to 950xp per Snapjaw kill x 15! My lev 48 Hunter earned another 4700xp on completion got probably the best fishing pole in the game! Now I'm only 60% away from levelling to 49 - after 1 quest! Sweet! This quest is a must! All the snaps are easy pulls for a Hunter - just pet tank, trap etc. Takes 10mins max. Stay sharp though, Gemmertia lev 48 elite roams the same area and the snaps will just spawn right over the top of you. A great grinding spot just outside of Revantusk. Enjoy.

Soloed as a 48 warlock. easiest one I've done in awhile.

XP was 4700.

The turtles were 49s and 50s.

49s gave 299 XP. 50s gave 314 XP.

Also took on Gammerita, for "Gammerita, Mon!" He's a 48 elite. That kill was 560 XP and the quest gave 4400 XP.

Good way to get Zesty Clam Meat needed for Cooking quest in Tanaris. Also recommend selling it on AH.

Did about 80000 XP here to make level 49.

At 49, the 49s are 290 XP and the 50s are 304 XP.
Gammerita now is 534 XP.

During this time I got 1 Iridescent Pearl, 2 Gold Pearls, and 2 Black Pearls.

At Vendor:
Speckled Shell Fragment x5 = 45s 15c
Thick Scaly Stail x5 = 7s 75c

Went back as a 50
49s are 274 XP
50s are 295 XP
Gammerita is 506 XP

With rested bonus they were:
548
590
1012

At level 51 "normal" XP was
49s = 257
50s = 279

Skill while hitting with fishing pole is unarmed. Have none of you that posted ever swung with a fishing pole or gotten ganked while fishing? If not equip your pole and swing at a critter or something non threatening, first message in chat is: your skill in UNARMED has improved to x.
