Broken Alliances

Use the Sign of the Earth to activate the Pillars of Diamond, Opal, and Amethyst and obtain the Runestones.

Place the runestones in the Seal of the Earth to free Blacklash and Hematus.

Slay them and return Blacklash's Bindings, the Chains of Hematus, and the Sign of the Earth to Gorn.
Blacklash's Bindings
Chains of Hematus
Sign of the Earth
Provided Item:
Sign of the Earth

Description

The Seal of the Earth is held by three runestones, held in the Pillars of Diamond, Opal, and Amethyst in Lethlor Ravine. Using the Sign of the Earth, you will be able to remove the runestones and unlock the Seal of the Earth.

Be wary though, <name>, the black drakes Blacklash and Hematus are not to be trifled with. See them dead and return their bindings to me.

To reach the ravine, travel to the far eastern part of the Badlands. Be careful though, for the ravine is home to countless drakes.

For those of you that don't want to look up the individual pillars -

Pillar of Diamond: 84, 33
Pillar of Amethyst: 81, 64
Pillar of Opal: 72, 67

Seal of the Earth: 81, 50

Just visit the 3 Pillars first, then use the Seal of the Earth. That's the easy part. Hard part is killin the 2 mobs!

After dying three times, I was able to solo Blacklash and Hematus as a 54 shaman. If you've got the right talent spec (and 4-5 greater mana potions or better) you can take them out.

Some tips:
- It's critical to have 5 ranks in Improved Lesser Healing Wave. 5 in Tidal Focus and Tidal Mastery will also help (think "cookie-cutter NS build"). You'll be healing yourself a lot, and if you can't get your heals off while being struck, you're done for.

- I did this with greater mana potions. 700-900 isn't a lot of mana, but two for each fight was enough for me. Having better mana potions will make your fights noticeably easier.

- Knowing what to expect from the two dragonkin can help a bit, so here's the scoop: Blacklash uses a fire spell that always hits for exactly 500, while Hematus uses one that hits for 70-80 the first time and inflicts a magic effect that increases damage from each subsequent fire spell by 70-80. These effects stack, so Hematus' fire attacks will become more deadly as the fight goes on. The below strategy (necessarily) prolongs the fight by conserving mana for healing, so keep a close eye on your health as your fight with Hematus goes on.

- Fire resistance totems might help you during this fight. Their effect should be more noticeable against Hematus because of the nature of his fire attack. I didn't use them because I wanted to save mana, but you might find that they pay for themselves in the form of damage prevented (and consequently, healing not needed).

- I used a one-hander and shield for the fight. You might be able to use a two-hander, but keep in mind that both dragonkin have powerful melee attacks (I was taking about 250-300 damage per hit if memory serves, and that was with 45% damage reduction).

The strategy:
Before you do anything, kill a few of the 44-45 dragonkin near the pillar so you have some room to work with. If you use LB or shocks to fight them, be sure to replenish your mana before using your runestones. When you use the runestones, back away from the pillar immediately, or Blacklash and Hematus will both spawn right on top of you. Run away at first if they start attacking you, then come back when you've shed aggro.

Cast Rockbiter on your weapon. You can't afford to rely on Windfury's randomness, and Flametongue Weapon won't help at all (Blacklash and Hematus are immune to fire). Run just within aggro range of one (don't pull with a spell--save your mana) and pull him back from the pillar a short ways. Don't worry, you won't pull both of them.

Now, drop a Strength of Earth totem (your only use of mana other than heals). If you want to use Fire Resistance totems, cast one now as well. Start swinging away with your weapon, and resist the temptation to use shocks to deal more damage. You don't have enough mana to kill them with spells, even combined with melee. Let your weapon deal all the damage. With Rockbiter and Strength of Earth, your damage-dealing will be solid and consistent. If you have ranks in Thundering Strikes, Flurry, and Parry, you'll do even better.

When your health is knocked down to about 750, start spam-healing with LHW until you're back up to about 90%, then go back to attacking with your melee weapon. Don't fill your health back up all the way, or you'll waste mana. It's important to wait until your health gets low to start healing, because you want to regain as much mana as possible while you're swinging away with your weapon.

Once you've used mana equal to the amount you can replenish with a potion (say you've used 900 and you have a greater mana potion), use one immediately, then go back to attacking. This way, you start that two-minute potion cooldown early and get the opportunity to use a second mana potion in the fight. More mana potions means more healing, since you'll be using almost all of it for LHW.

Your SoE totem will probably expire two times (maybe three if you're not enhancement-specced) during the fight. When it expires, immediately recast it and heal yourself back to 90%. If you're using FR totems, recast them only when you recast SoE. FR will always disappear before SoE (at 54, your best FR should last 1 min., and SoE 1.5) but you'll still have FR down for two-thirds of the fight with this strategy. The idea is to minimize the amount of time you're not regaining mana while giving your melee attacks that extra punch you'll need to win.

Follow the above, and you can pull it off. Each one will take 4-5 minutes, perhaps a bit less if you're enhancement-specced. (My Rockbiter wore off just as I killed each one, so I'm judging the length by that). Be sure to bring a few drinks with you, and 4-5 extra mana potions (just in case something goes wrong and you have to try again).

Hopefully this will help someone (especially those who can't get groups together out in the Badlands--I never have luck forming groups there).

You can obtain this quest at 40, but the dragons you have to defeat are level 50 elites. The area where you fight them is also filled with a good number of other 40+ elite dragons. Bring a group prepared for a fight similar to a boss at the end of an instance and you'll do fine.

Also don't wait too long to finish this one, as the rewards are great for a character in the early 40s, not so great for early 50s. Note that if you don't intend to use any of the rewards, you should grab the chestplate, as it sells for nearly 2.5 gold.

I just soloed this as a level 48 Beast Master Hunter.

Here is what I dwowhead:1,id:

1)- Cleared all mobs in the area around the stone.
2)- Summoned.

2).1) Dismiss your pet , since when the 2 dragons spawn you will have agro , even if you FD the agro will go on the pet and he/she will die . That way you save yourself some time.

After dismiss , summon and FD.

2).2). Hematus is really the more easy one of the two dragons. I

killed him with simple "pet tank , I dps" tactic. The only thing is that you can pull out (pressing passive on the pet bar) the pet so it goes out of his range , when the dragon is casting. Use Mend Pet to keep your pet alive.

2).3). Blacklash ... Now he is really a pain. He hits harder and mooves faster.I started with same tactic , thinking it will work as well... But Blacklash insert's way more dmg and even if you have Mend Pet all the time healing the pet , it will die again. In short here is what i changed:

Started with a pull with Serpent String , kiting him for full duration. Then pet started to tank , renewed Serpent String and put Mend Pet on.At this dragon you should AWAYS pull out your pet when he is casting , that way you save some seconds in which your pet get's healed without recieving damage. After he is done casting use Rapid Fire + Beast Within. (Note IF you have Imp.Mend pet tallent + Endurance training that might be just enough to get the pet strong enough to tank him full time. However I didn't have them)

When he got on 10% he killed my pet and I was almost oom , I was out of kiting space as well (some nasty respawns got on) he rushed me and landed 3 hits on me, but as you know when mobs get under 10% they get really slow , so I ran in his diraction (because behind me there were respawned elites) ,he landed the 3 hits (I almost died) , then I just put Aspect of the Cheetah and killed him.

===============================================
Note 1: I doubt that you can solo this with any other class then Hunter and Warlock , so you better get a grp with you when you do that quest.

Note 2: If you aren't BM spec , forget doing solo this quest

Note 3: Aways watch your mana pool. I had 2k mana and after a few failed tries I found out that my mana is enough only for mend pet +serpent string's and one Beast Within + Rapid Fire

Note 4: He has a very long despawn time so you can take your time trying on him. However the mobs around the stone respawn faster and can easely wipe you.

Note 5: I'll say again ... Imp. mend pet + Endurance training will really help a lot in this fight

===============================================

I hope I was usefull ;)

P.s. I rly took this quest as a challenge for my hunter abillities then a hunt for exp/money :) I also managed to get some nice worn dragonscales , which I needed bad for my Dragonscale LW quest (and items)

Whew just managed to solo this as a 47 Affliction Lock. As the previous poster said, activate the pillar and run off to leash the 2 50 elite dragons. After that you can pull them one at a time without them aggroing each other. They both hit (melee) the same for about 300 on cloth.

Hematus (easier of the two):
For some reason this guy seemed to move a bit slower than Blacklash, and as such was much easier to kite. He also stops and casts Flame Buffet every once in a while a good distance away from you, again making him cake to kite. Flame Buffet hits for about 80 damage and adds a stacking debuff increasing fire damage taken by the same.

Blacklash (harder!):
Blacklash seems to move slightly faster than Hematus and his Flame Breath ability is only cast at a much closer range for 500 fire damage. This means he's much more likely to have caught up into melee range before even casting it. If he can chain daze you, you're pretty much going to die. I managed to survive 2 dazes by using a healthstone after the first, then healing pot and deathcoil after the 2nd.

Since both are immune to CC and slows (at least Curse of Exhaustion), you're going to need to run in as straight of a line as you can and just refresh dots and use instant casts to keep them from leashing. Quite literally I was halfway between their spawn point and Kargath when I killed Blacklash, and I only stopped because I had 2 mobs blocking my path in front of me. I then draintanked Blacklash from 15% to dead spamming my lucky Nightfall procs.

Good luck!

Duoed at 47 (44 Shaman as pet healer), soloed at 53 while farming dragonscales (leftover spawn from some hapless Dru who couldn't complete the quest & left the dragons to their own devices).

Important preparation: a) respec your pet: max life, max fire resist(!), rest armour (forget Bite etc unless you have a Gorilla or Vulture -> Screech/Stomp generate additional aggro), b) get a major mana pot or five, c) clear at least a part of the area of the 44/45 guardians (add = you'll die).

Duo Strat: Release dragons, run away, FD, get up, retreat, wait for FD cooldown to clear. Pull single dragon FD when dualpull & start over. Single pull successful, send in pet, hit Bestial Wrath to generate humungous initial aggro, start firing. Shaman propped up totems & otherwise didn't do anything EXCEPT heal the pet when your healer starts dealing damage you're in for a beating (healer draws aggro = baaaad thing...). Use Multishot whenever available & refresh Serpent constantly.

When you overaggro for the first time, FD IMMEDIATELY & you can lean into the dragon with impunity for the rest of the fight (1st thing after FD: fire off MS, engage Rapid Fire to whack out more ouch). Result: After about 2 minutes & a mana pot, the first dragon went down. Cleared respawned guardians, waited for Rapid Fire cooldown to reset, pulled 2nd dragon (who had eaten a 5x Warrior in the meantime who thought he could solo him :)), lather, rinse, repeat. Just make sure your pet never goes down with the above fire res respec, it shouldn't need healing to the extent that the healer draws aggro.

The above duo should work with any BM-hunter/healer combination as long as the hunter hits often & hard enough so that pet aggro over time doesn't go below heal aggro.

Solo strat: Pull, send in pet, BW, give him all you have, FD to reset aggro, wait for pet to die (happend at around 20-25% for me), then do some old-school kiting, kite the bastard for another&nbsp minutes & let him slowly die from Serpent Sting & the odd MS i could pop off between Concs. If he closes in, Wing Clip. Key points: Drink a mana pot early, when pet is still doing okay so that the potion timer resets when you're kiting him (-> second potion). Was a fun run, even if all I got was rugged leather from skinning :).

Soloed them at lvl 48.&nbsp They are imumue to bash and helm of fire(no suprise).&nbsp Summon them and run away in travel form.&nbsp Go back and single pull with starfire, wrath and moonfire.&nbsp In bear form use feral fire, demoralizing roar, swipe and at 60% health frenzied regeneration to almost full health. Wait till 60%, again shift out, bark skin and heal to full health. Cast moonfire maybe innervate then finish in bear with almost full health. I had on 45 FR, 4819 health, 26% crit, 26% dodge, 7241 armor, 72.6 dps with only food buff. I think the mobs only have about 10-12k health.&nbsp

We did this quest with a level 47 shaman, level 43 resto druid and a level 43 warrior. The shaman summoned the dragons and we all then ran away. Once they had stopped chasing us, we went back and pulled them one by one, with relative ease. The shaman main-tanked, with the warrior off-tanking. The resto druid (me) healed. It took quite a lot of healing but I just kept using 'healing touch', and used Innervate halfway through. It was really pretty straightforward although they did take a long time to die.

Just finished the quest with a 50 Warrior, 50 Shaman, and 46 Rogue.

If you have less than 4 people you'll need to fight them one at a time. Clear the drakes around and north of the pillar first. If you have a Rogue or Hunter, have him summon the dragons and Vanish or Feign Death Otherwise just summon & run until they de-aggro.

Blacklash has a cone AoE fire breath attack that does a good deal of damage, so have everyone attack him from behind. A fire protection potion on the tank isn't a bad idea either.

Hematus has a DD fire attack with a debuff that causes more fire damage, which is dispellable.

Like the other elite drakes, both of them are immune to fire. They are also immune to stuns and poisons as Vasarious stated.

I had to do it with a 57 shaman, 60 mage, and me, 55 shaman. We weren't doing it very seriously, so the shaman died once, right after we killed one of the dragons, and the mage was close to dying from the other dragon, but I took aggro off at just the right moment, and I tanked the other dragon..they have a spell, Flame Buffet, it stackable, increases fire damage taken. It was stacked to do 150 fire damage + their flame breath. How nice it would have been to have a priest or warlock w/felhunter ...

Don't be too afraid of these dragons. Did them 5 minutes ago with 4 level 45s, with sub-average gear: warlock, priest, mage, warrior was all it took. Us casters went over to the ledge closest to the pillar where you spawn the two mobs, and we let the tank spawn them we let them kill the tank when they spawned, priest rez'd tank, and then pulled one single. Priest got aggro once and died, but soulstone took care of it. Tank was able to keep them away from us other than that.

No need to wait until your lvl 50 if you want to group this.

Soloed this as a lvl 50 Hunter (Beast Master). Quite easy. Kill the elite dragons on one area so you can fight without extra agros, make your pet stay a distance away from the seal of Earth, then summon the Bosses, run away from them and faign death. Recover your health, make sure your pet is happy, and you have all the buffs you can (I used pots for agi and int, and scrolls of agi, str, and sta on pet).
Pull one Boss then send pet using bestial wrath+beast within, then use serpent sting, rapid fire, and arcane shot until bestial wrath dispells. Keep using normal shots whenever possible and serpent sting as necesary, using mana mainly for Mend Pet. After killing the first dragon just wait for rapid fire to refresh and repeat the above.
I only failed once, because I didnt notice my pet had fallen to contempt. No big deal though just feign death, rez pet and wait for coooldowns. (buff pet again if you can, I couldnt, didnt have any scrolls left)

Being a lvl 43 Rogue, this was an extreme challenge. They would come solo, but had at least 6k HPs. My regular attacks were doing no more than 16 dmg as well. My specials were at full effect though. My kicks did not interupt the flame breath. My DoTs worked.

Lots of confusing info on this one because of recent changes:
(1) the dragons Blacklash and Hematus are level 50 non-elites;
(2) although they appear simultaneously you can fight them one at a time - they were not aggressive when I fought them
(2) the Seal of the Earth is guarded by level 43-45 elite dragons;
(3) Solo'd easily as a 56 Hunter. The elite dragon guards ignored me I guess because of the level difference.
(4) A decent 6800 XP and 350 rep with Ogrimmar even at this level
