If you are not the first person to bring me 40 fish, my apprentice here will still reward you with money for each 5 Tastyfish you bring her.

One of the best places to fish is Yojamba island.

Set your Hearthstone to Booty Bay and go to Yojamba. Around the entire island there are about 8-10 pools and in all my weeks fishing, no one ever goes there.

I've already won the competition twice and multiple times I've already got 40 fish before anyone else has.

Yes, you need enough fishing skill to be able to fish in STV waters. I believe that's somewhere around 150~ fishing, but the more you have, the easier it is to catch the fish.

I won the contest yesterday in arround 17minutes... I just started moving from the bridge near Booty Bay @ pretty boy duncan upwards to the North.

I usualy found a new pool within 50-100 yards. 1 time I had to bridge 250ish yards I think but there wasn't really alot of competition. At least not from Horde side since like 10 Alliance were ganking everything on sight :>.

1 note tho. Having a scout riding ahead looking for the next pool is always handy.

Tried this quest today and was a bit dissappointed to be honest. It's basically a ratrace where a group of players run up and down the coast racing to fish in small discolored circles in the water. The circles move evry so often so it's a hectic ratrace instead of anything really resembling a rl fishing tournament. I'm sure it's fun for those who enjoy that type of thing, but it's certainly not for me. My biggest enjoyment of fishing is that I don't feel pressured or crowded while doing it, but this "tournament" removes that stuff from fishing and turns it into, well, a ratrace.

alright so I'm working on getting my fishing skill up so that I can do this... both for the pole and for the trinket... I'll prolly take the trinket first cuz... hey... no matter who the hell you are if you're not a shaman it'll make it easier for me to get away from you in the water :p

I'm alliance... and every horde in STV is scandalous it seems... level 70s chilling outside nessingwary's expedition and killing the level 30s and camping em... it's weak and pathetic and you should be ashamed of yourself if you do this. Maybe I should go to barrens and start picking off your lowbs just cuz I can.

Doing this undermines the fun of the game and for a new player in a pvp server that's a bad thing. In a PVP server you need all the players you can get or the game isn't as fun. So stop running off the people who aren't very good at it yet.

I'm going to get the big iron fishing pole from desolace for the competition. Seems like the +20 to fishing (while small) would be a good place to start.

PS

Don't kill people equipped with fishing poles ya loser!

This quest promotes very rude behavior, everyone racing around stealing peoples "schools", so rude. Then these players seem to think it's alright to do it all the time so then come over and steal your school of fish well after the tourney.

No idea on the level req, but I won this the first week on a new BC server at level 30. Did it in just under 30 minutes, had to avoid mobs a lot and use +75 lures on my wimpy +5 pole, but with only 225 skill at the start I never saw any "got away" messages. So if theres no "quest" level requirement, it could be done at whatever level you can train journeyman (75-150) fishing at. Which is 10 I think? You'd need a team to keep mobs away of course.

Theres was maybe 1 other person fishing the first sunday on a brand new BC server, since 99% of the "serious" players wouldn't dare to stop leveling long enough to hit ~150 fishing. (lol) Although some of those "serious" players were buying up all my cooked deviates like hotcakes, since I saw them in pirate/ninja form all the time at the AH's. The modest time I spent skilling to 150 paid off in spades, both gold and these.

Won it the next week at level 49, in 24 minutes flat )
There was some competent competition then, though still low numbers compared to an established server.

I heard from someone who had their 40 fish but forgot to set hearth in BB, he showed up about a minute after I won. I would say thats a requirement to win if theres anyone else seriously trying. The other requirement would be understanding that you recast until its in the pool, I heard lots of people complain in general chat that their drop rate was 1 in 5, if it lands in the pool its around 90-95%, the rest is usually one of the alchemy fish, stranglekelp or a blue if you're really lucky.

I did get really lucky with a string of 7 or so pools in a row and lots of bouncing bobbers right after casting...the last 25 fish came so fast. A little non-combative fun and thrills on a sunday :)

Well this is usless for a level 60, no offence to Blizzard but WTF is wrong with them?

A lower level would benefit much more from these things, let's say level 40? or 45...

I think as a priest it is much easier to get about with levitate, so far I have been all over the place and opened most fly paths at level 35:) I do use a lot of feathers but hey you can farm them from moonkin or whatever teh bear-birds in Auberdine drop them every time. Plus I'm a tailor so I made that silk belt that gives 15% swim speed.

BTW where do you start the quest?

It took me over 4 months of Tourneys, but i finally won one.
The Grasshopper has become the Master (Angler)!

Some tips from a Master Angler for those frustrated from not winning (tested)

- Fish! Fish like the wind!

- Set your Hearthstone to Booty Bay. This will get you back faster once you get your 40 Speckled Tastyfish. Don't run, don't ride, don't fly. Hearth! Also, don't dawdle while turning in the fish. Right after I turned in my fish, there was another player right behind me. He was the first loser that day. ) Speed is paramount!

- Be ready. The tourney begins at 2:00 P.M. server time. Be setup and ready to go before then. If you start the tourney late, you will not win. (Although at 23s per 5 Tastyfish, and by selling reagent fish (Firefin Snapper, Oily Blackmouth, Stonescale Eels) you can still make some money for your efforts.)

- It helps to be higher than level 40 for two reasons: The mobs won't aggro you quite as far away AND a mount is almost a must to get to the schools.

- Fishing skill.... by the time I won, my skill was 300 plus modifiers (up to 30). You need to be high enough level to fish in the area without seeing, "Your Fish Got Away" every other hit. So, a high skill is important, but I don't know a 'good' level to suggest. If you have +Fishing bonuses, use them.

- Bait.... Basically, don't waste precious fishing time by applying bait. This ties-in to the above--have a high enough Fishing Skill that you don not need to rely on bait. Bait increases your level so that you have more time between your Bobber jumping and you clicking on it. It does not improve your chance to get a bite, nor does it improve the chances of the types of fish that you will catch. If you want to use bait, apply it at 1:59 P.M. (server time) just before the tourney starts. If you are applying bait, your bobber is not in the water.

- Casting... When you cast, make sure your bobber is within the School of Tastyfish. Sometimes, because of the camera angle, it looks like it's in, but if you move the camera around you will see that you are not. If in doubt, recast. It takes less time to recast than spending the 'channeling time' and coming up with a Mithrilhead Trout or Spotted Yellowtail to realize that you were off.

- Assign the Fishing skill to a hot key so that you can cast/recast as quickly as possible.

- Location... You can find Schools of Tastyfish anywhere along Stranglethorn Vale except in Booty Bay. I suggest islands or peninsulas because you increase your shoreline in a smaller coverage area. Try to keep travel time to a minimum. If you are running/riding to locate the Schools, you are not fishing. Also, try to find a spot where not too many other players are fishing. If multiple bobbers are in a school, it makes it disapear faster. Look for the next school.

- Know the area It helps to know the general spawn locations of the Schools. There may be add-ons that show schools, but after a few fishing outtings, you will be able to know where the schools pop up.

Other notes:
I was (finally) able to win the tournament by using the above strategies. I did not use any mods or add-ons--it can be done without them. I have no suggestions for any mods or addons.

If there are unscrupulous members of the other faction that like to pick on unarmed fishermen, and you get killed you probably will not win the tourney. If your ghost is running back to your corpse, you are not fishing.

It seems that there are a set number of schools that spawn and a slightly higher number of spawn locations. When one school is depleted, another will pop in one of the other locations. Hopefully, it will pop close to you. If several players are fishing the same school, it will go away quicker. Look for the next spawn.

All tourneys start at 2:00 server time. Most are won by 2:35 - 2:45. You should be getting about 1 Tastyfish per minute (average) or better. You will catch things other than Tastyfish, just loot and recast. You should have 40 Tastyfish before 2:40.

Even if someone beats you to the turn in, you can still get some $$ from your efforts by turning in stacks of 5 Tastyfish. You will also probably catch some 'reagent' fish or Stranglekelp which are used by Alchemists. You can either sell these (Stonescale Eels gennerally go for 1g each) or make reagents if you are an Alchemist. During my time doing the Torneys, I was able to catch all of the rare fish, so I had gear with +Fishing Skill.

Besides the 3 Rare Fish that give you +Fishing gear, I also fished up the Rockhide Strongfish--a fish that can be used as a mace! Imagine whacking opponents in Battle Grounds with a fish!

Happy Angling!

P.S. If you play Horde toon, you can get Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 which is a good Fishing Pole. It doesn't have as high of a Fishing bonus as the reward from this tourney, but id does have more DPS. )

The trinket is FUN!
