The Hero of the Day

Bring 1 Deeprock Salt and 5 gold coins to any Holly Preserver machine, upon which you will receive 5 Preserved Holly.

Description

Listen... I'm not really supposed to be telling you this, but since you're the hero of the day and all...

There's fresh holly everywhere this time of the year, but it never lasts. We've got a machine that preserves holly - it never goes bad! We use it to spice up the holiday... and profits during the summer!

I'll let you use the preserver, but only if you're a master cook. You'll need some deeprock salt and two, three, oh let's say five gold. It'll net you a nice batch that's yours to keep.

It should be noted that turning in Metzen the Reindeer nets you 5g 70s at lvl 70 so in completing this the goblins are getting most of their money back.

you have to do all the other holliday quests and be a master cook.&nbsp i knew getting cooking up to 300 would help some day

Yes, you need exactly 300 cooking.
No you do not get any experience or reputation for completing this quest. I did it today (12/16/2006).

On the horde side you will find the machine directly to the right of the quest giver who is right outside the AH in Og.

I don't recall if this quest is repeatable, but it becomes available to Horde & Alliance after you complete the quests to free Metzen the Reindeer.

Also note the quest text states you must be a master level cook in order to complete this quest. 5g + 1 Deeprock Salt will give you 5 Preserved Holly... thats the kind that never expires and can be used year round.

"hero of the day" may imply that you can only do this once a day. Im gonna check tomorrow and see if it works.

if anyone has ANY information on this it'd be much appreciated...i'm willing to lvl my Cooking to 300, but i'd like to know who to get the quest from, where the machine is and all that lot

I was the only person on-line in guild that could NOT get this quest, couldn't even see it. I was also the only one without 300 cooking skill. So it takes a high level cooking skill not sure if its 300 or not. ~ K

it turns your mount into a reindeer until you dismount

the stuff you get from this is not soulbound, is permanent and only has 5 charges however, if you /kiss one of the Winterveil Revelers at any of the inns you can either get Fresh Holly (5 charges, Soulbound... Expires in 7 days) or Mistletoe (increases spirit by 20)

I did this, you get it from the same smookywood guy in IF after doing the Greench series.

The machine is right behind the smookywood cart in IF.

***THIS QUEST IS NOT REPEATABLE YOU ONLY GET FIVE HOLLY***

(at least, I was unable to do it twice. thanks blizz!....morons)

Edit: I have had 300 cooking for a while. Saving all 10 holly I have to sell in the summer at huge markup.

This quest is not repeatable, and the reward is also not soulbound.

Doing this does not require Fresh Holly from Winter Revelers. Also, I was able to do this quest at 357 Cooking.

i think i have to agree with nose fruit. You get 5 preserved holly for rescuing metzen. and if youre 300 cook, they let you use the holly preserver machine for 5 more, so a total of 10 preserved holly. However this machine does NOT let you do it again, which I assume is a bug I hope they patch over. I tried the machine In TB and Org, neither will let me do it since the first time I did it. I already sold 2 of my preserved holly in the first few hours of christmas time before other 300 cooks new they could do it, leaving me with 8 until they fix this or the stuff all goes away...
