This quest is a pain if you rely on shadow damage the gnolls seem to be about 20-25% shadow resistant.

You can also find some lower level gnolls at 73,43 who also drop the pendants.

I only had to kill 14 gnolls to get my 10 pendants. I'm level 21, so I stuck to the 22's and 23's.

At 75,53 you will find somewhat lower level mobs (21 - 24) which seem to have a much higher drop rate of the pendants (for me, I got 1 pendant per mob).&nbsp Whereas the other mobs in the area seem to only drop it 1:3.

Good luck!

i found a spot for shadowhide gnolls really separated and no lvl 25's... it's at 70,47.

go into that valley and there's a super high drop rate with easy kills.

As a previous person said, I got 2 pendants for every 3 kills, from ANY of them, none in particular. They all seemed to drop about the same as any others. Got some decent exp. because most were 21-26.

While doing Solomon's Law there were a number of drops of the magic pendant. I could only pick up 1 and it indicates it starts a quest but nothing happens when I click it so what does it do?

sheesh!

this quest is tough.&nbsp doable as a 21 mage, but i pity a warrior trying to do it.

most of the mobs are grouped together, etc.

The previous poster is right...I did it with a level 23 rogue and it's simple as long as you pick your targets. I got 10 pendants in 17 kills too, so the drop rate isn't bad at all.

The best mobs to kill are the L21 and L23 gnolls that are camped between Stonewatch and the Tower of Elagar. That's where the pendants drop fastest.

I've done this quest a half a dozen times between multiple characters.&nbsp I've never had more problems than I am currently.&nbsp We had a trio last night that farmed them for almost 2 hours.&nbsp I only got 4 pendants, the other two poeple only got 1 pendant.&nbsp
&nbsp This morning I woke up and continued to farm them solo.&nbsp I've farmed them now for 3 more hours, gained a lvl from 24-25, and haven't gained a SINGLE PENDANT ALL MORNING.&nbsp I've killed 150+ this morning and gotten nothing.&nbsp I know these are the right mobs, and I'm in the right place 'cause I've done the quest MANY times before. . . just for some reason I have the worst luck in the world, or the quest is broke.

EDIT:&nbsp I tried again the next day with a friend, killing the same mobs, in the same place and I got all the pendant drops within 30 minutes.&nbsp So the quest musta just been broke for the day or something odd.

I believe (call me crazy) that the drops are commensurate with your level.&nbsp In most quests I often find that I get a few quickly then the count suspends for a while, then I finish up.&nbsp Which leads me to believe that the quest becomes more difficult the lower level you are.&nbsp As you rise in level the quest gets easier.

My theory.

Lots of ways to get there. Take the north road and you will have to deal with a few L20 orcs, but it's easier to find the gnolls that way. Take the south road and you will have to shoot the falls (one-way) and scoot around some camps of orcs and murlocs, and sneak up on the shadowhides from the rear (Southeast).

Conveniently, there is a little camp with a leatherworker and skinning trainer in the extreme East of the zone. The "keep" is impassible -- it's swarming with Elite low-20's mobs.

As a Druid 21, I grouped with a Pal 24 for about 10 minutes and pulled 4 Pendants. He had to leave.

It is true what saikobunny says - my drops came from Brutes, the Mystics are nothing more than XP and money with the rare Green drop.

I will be going back to finish this. Hope fully I can find someone to join me.

I agree. North of Tower of Ilglalar (sp) and the lower level gnolls had a better drop rate. I did this solo as lvl 27 rogue and just stayed on the fringes pulling the strays. I don't think it took more than 1/2 hour. About 1 in 5 dropped the pendant.

The gnolls in question drop this very rarly, or at least when I went with my party. After about 45 minutes of constant killing we had found 3 pendants. The XP was good and the drops were decent, but we gave up on this mission and desided to come back to it later. If you don't go so deep into the area, you can find spawns of 1-3 gnolls which are going to be the easiest to defeat.

I did this last night..

18 warlock
19 Pally
29 warlock
25 cleric

Well after 2 hours of trying the warlock logged and arrived with his 59 mage ... quest complete =)

BTW dont bother until you 20ish because I bet 90% of my spells were resisted .. even my pets taunt didnt work. Besides all that the low lvl aggro was huge .. I sould have just stayed on the road.

Easy as. If you get this quest, make sure you also get the "Luitenant Fangorn" quest from the guy next to the guy who gives you this quest.

Personally think the best place to hunt these guys is go north from the village, turn into the mill, and keep going like in Fangorne.

All the shadowhide gnols have insane shadow resistance (about 3 out of 4 Mind Flays are resisted). As a shadow priest I found realy fast that Smite and Holy Fire work way better than Mind Blast/Mind Flay.

The Pendants are dropped by all sorts of gnolls, not just the Brutes. I did this last night with my L24 paladin (levelled up to 25 midway through), and I found them on Rabids, Brutes, Warriors, and Slayers. They seemed a bit more common on the higher-level mobs (24-26) than on the 21-22's.

In my experience, the drop rate wasn't bad at all. I think I got a Pendant roughly every third or fourth gnoll on average my first Slayer also dropped the Glowing Shadowhide Pendant (so I'll need to get to those quests next). In about 20 minutes of solo killing, and another 15 teamed up with a mage who wanted help, I got the 10 Pendants. Not too hard a quest, if you pull carefully and watch your aggro management...
