Mathystra Relic (6)

Description

The parchment you found at the Master's Glaive is a page from an ancient text...written by elves! It is heavily cursed and tainted by the corruption of the Twilight's Hammer, but it seems the cult is using ancient elven magic to bring their old masters back to our world.

Travel to the ruins of Mathystra to the northeast, and search for ancient relics among the grass and broken stones. Through their study, we may divine how the Twilight's Hammer intends to exploit the magic of the elves.

The "Mathystra Relics" are found on the ground, so they are not a drop. You'll still have to kill a lot of Naga to get to them, but don't expect, like I did, to have the items drop for pickup.

When you find a relic, and they are scattered all over the grounds, simply right click when you get the activity icon (looks like a cog). That's all there is to it!

This can be difficult if you're low level, because the ruins are filled with high level naga, and LOTS of them. As Gaeolas said, you can get the artifacts from what look like stone wine glasses or stone spheres. There are also these little, stone caskets, like what you'd expect to see a mummy in, and you can get the relics from them.

And watch out for Lady Vespira, she looks almost exactly like the other naga, but she's an elite encounter, and can be even more difficult.

The ruins are found at the very north end of Darkshore. Just take the road all the way up.

I did not find the relics in chests. Instead, they were in objects that either looked like chalices (wineglasses) or medium-sized balls scattered about the area. There were also some objects that looked like little cat statues, but when you open them you get Cat Figurines rather than the ancient relics.

Ok - my quest went pretty easy (solo lvl 21 priest)...

I found the cat figurine at 56, 21 and once it comes to life and you kill it, you actually get a figuring that upon use, activates a cat to fight with you for 10 minutes ... i thought that was worth the mention.

Found the relices at the following co. although they're all over the place:
56,22&nbsp --&nbsp 58.20&nbsp --&nbsp 57,19&nbsp --&nbsp 57,21

Here's the bug I got ... 56,22 and 57,21 literally respawned about 20 seconds after I got them!&nbsp

This quest is easier for dwarves because that if you turn on Find Treasure you will be able to see the Mathystra Relic on your minimap.

Just finished the quest. Follow the path north of Auberdine as the person before mentioned. Once you cross a bridge, you are very, very close. As you are coming close to the ruins, you will see them up ahead looming in the distance. There will be a Sentry on the Right of the path (as long as he doesnt roam...didnt see him do that). Look at the mini-map. See the first little blips of ruins to the left of the path. There will be a 'bowl' like depression. I picked up the relics on the 'rim' of the 'bowl'. Then 2 inside the bowl. Came back to finish this as a lvl 24 NE Rogue and finished in 10 min. As a rogue, you can do this at lvl 20 as long as you are comfortable with Ambush/Stealth/Kick abilities. I attacked them by drawing them out with thrown daggers and by ambushing and never agro'd their 'neighbors' (but may be different with a lower lvl?). Going to find out what to do with the cat relics. That was funny! Oh! Remember to pickpocket before you kill them. No less than 20 copper on each kill before and then loot them again! As long as you dont mind the grind--kill them all. I picked up 6 different things to sell which will bring me about 20 silver. 20 Silver was my Gryphon jumps for the day.

If you go to the eastern edge of the ruins, you can find many relics clustered together, including a second cat figurine around 59, 15.

For those who want to minimize fighting, you can go between the ruins and the ocean to get to this place and cut way back on the number of mobs you need to kill.

This area is a much easier place to find the relics.

For those wondering, the relics come in different shapes but are basically small and white. Balls, rods, cups, etc.

The area you need to head to is north of Auberdine. Just head north on the path and keep going, its at the very top of the map. There are a ton of relics so finding them wont be hard. Everything up there is between lvl 18-20 so make sure you are in a party or at that lvl before going over there

The relics are spread all around the site, you can't miss them.

If you kill some of the lizards in the area, they are bound to drop some shells. Save one if the relics are bugged, opening a shell gets your normal pose back. works for me.

oh and yeah, not all relics are bugged

I just went home on my lunch break and did this in 20 min. All the Relics are close by so you dont have to walk deep in the ruins. Some of the statues even have two relics inside so you dont have to look that much.Once you got one walk away and go back to the same statue, there still might be another inside. I'm a level 18 Druid and it really wasnt hard at all.

Oddly having issues getting this quest. I'm currently a 20 druid. I've done all the prereq quests. When I came back from the book with the page and gave it to onu he didn't offer me a new quest. (This one) and I've had friends get this quest and then try to share it with me and says it's not available to me. I don't understand is there something else I might be missing? I've done almost every quest for darkshore.. Is it possible it doesn't give me because I cannot use either weapon? only thing I can think of.. I could use mace with training which will be my next try is this possibly the reason though?

Stealth is VERY handy if you have it. As a druid (cat form stealth) I was able to get close and grab most of the relics by only killing one (or even none) nagas.

BUT BE AWARE: Some of the relics will get you "stuck", that is, in that mode where you are knelt over trying to open it and you never stand up again (nor get the relic). I had to logout and back in to get unstuck. If you find a relic like this, just move on to another relic and leave that one alone.

QUESTION: Does anyone know what the "Cat statuettes" are for? While I was searching the area, I found at least two of these little cat statuettes. They look like they would be a quest item, but I've never seen a quest for them.

This is soloable w/out kills as Rogue 17 in 30ish minutes without problems:

1. Sneak around and identify a relict (they look like vases and other stuff lying on the ground, *not* the chests as allready mentioned below)

2. check out the patrol area of the mobs that guard it.

There is one relic that spawns on the northeast corner of the ruins that is "unguarded" for a short period of time (meaning that the mob will be too far away to take notice of you while you open it & steal it)

Identify a relic that is guarded by 1 (and 1 only) mob. Sneak up to him, sap him and take the relic run away, rinse and repeat :0)

3. if you get caught, hit evasion and sprint away from the ruins, preferably to the beach (they will not follow unto the beach, and there are no aggro mobs there, except the 1st mate).

Something interesting happened while I was doing this quest. I had just completed The Blackwood Corruption, and as I was running around killing Nagas (I was level 18 and had a 17 warrior with me, so we did pretty well just cutting a swath through them), every so often a Blackwood Warrior or Totemic would pop up where I was standing and wander around. They were green and harmless, and it always seemed to happen after killing a Naga. It didn't last very long, but it was still bizzare.

Also, in this area there is a named Naga with a silver dragon border. She's a 22 sorceress and drops a pretty sweet dagger for this level, 11.1 dps.

I was able to solo this quest as a level 19 NE Hunter with my level 18 Moonstalker pet.

I just followed the road north of Auberdine, past the Tower of Althalaxx. From, I headed towards the shore, which is where I pretty much stayed, with the exception of a tiny departure to pick up a couple of other relics. I was able to pull one mob away at a time and I never had to fight more than one mob at a time. I actually had one relic respawn on me pretty much immediately, which made me happy. :)

The Naga that you must fight range from level 19 to 21 male warriors, and level 20 female mages.

I was able to walk very carefully around the outskirts of the ruins, among the buildings and I only ever fought one naga at a time.

I walked in the area to the northwest of the main ruins. The relics look like small statues (smaller than a gnome). Several looked like stone chalices, one like a small statue of a person fallen on the ground, and a few looked like balls. Scan around the area with your mouse - they show up with the open gear mouse icon and with the words "Mathystra Relic".

I went around one depression and found several, then went down into the depression and found a few, then I came out of that and went into another depression directly out of it (to the northeast of it) and found the last one I needed (a sphere) as well as a cat statue and a battered chest that had a magic item and silver.

I believe that some classes could solo this quest at levels as low as 18.. like hunter or warlock, using the pet as a damage sink and using ranged weapons to draw a single one near you.

A party of two level 17s could also probably do it: IF they were coordinated and careful enough not to get more than once at a time, and if one could absorb damage and one could do ranged damage and/or heal.
