Mage Summoner

Slay Sarilus Foulborne and bring his head to Sentinel Velene Starstrike in Silverwind Refuge.
Sarilus Foulborne's Head

Description

There's only one undead mage in the Barrens capable of defiling this many water elementals. He's also the only one foolish enough to try. Sarilus Foulborne is probably sitting at the top of Dreadmist Peak, laughing at me.

<name>, you must go into enemy territory and destroy this miscreant. I have had enough of his idiocy and we must show him what happens to those who annoy the Sentinels.

Destroy him and bring me his head. Be wary though, the Horde may be watching for you.

Ok. there has been a bit of confusion on the coords for this and the actual ease of this mission. here's the basic walk-through on how to get there.
From astranaar, follow the road that leads you to the barrens, keep to the main road here, to avoid mobs.
When you see the horde guards, cut left, there is an unguarded entrance to the barrens, a wreckage of a wagon, smoke billowing out, REALLY hard to miss.
For those of us on PvP servers, i suggest keeping off the main roads to avoid conflict.
To get on top of the mountain, to the southwest side, there is a ridge you can walk on top of, located at 46: 23
Once on top of the mountain at 48:19, clear out all acolytes. Careful with pulling or you'll aggro Sarilus. Rogues, mind numbing poison here is your friend, mages and hunters, use frost traps to keep the guy still for a beating. anything you can do to slow his movement or casting time is really useful. (as i rogue i sapped/ gouged him to certain Dewm) it's not TOO hard to do, but definately a challenge.
I highly suggest bringing a friend who can make the little coward stand still and take whats coming to him.

If you start in Astranaar, head east on the main road. Toward WSG. Head down that road toward the entrance to the barrens. As you pass down the road you will come to a gate with Horde guards. At this point just swing over to the left of the gate with the Horde Guards, and you'll see the hole that you can waltz right in.

Getting to the top of the mountain you'll need to make your way up the southwest side. Take a close look, and you'll see what appear to be ridges covered with little patches of grass. You'll shimmy up between those and the lighter gray embankments along the sides of the mountain.

Keep making your way to the top and you'll come across a bunch of lvl 11-13 horde acolytes. Try and pull them one by one and they'll go down quick. Make your way to the top and you'll find the guy in possession of the head you need. Trap him if you can. If not, you're gonna be chasing him all around. His little minions can get you if you don't take him down fast.

Took me so long to find the mountain he's on i didnt get to him until I was a 33 NE hunter. Disregarding the coordinates people give I'll try to give a rather more straight forward discription of how to get there.

From the Ashenvale entrance to the Barrens that the Alliance has to use, just go straight South until you hit a mountain. Go up the mountain and you will find a plethra of angry orcs around 11-12 lvl. Kill all them and keep climbin'...at the top you'll find Sarilus who was lvl 25 for me.

I wouldnt know how fast he heals b/c it only took me about 5 seconds to tear him in two, but i guess he could be annoying to lower levels because he can summon a water elemental.

I found him very easily. Go east from Astranaar until you reach Silverwing outpost where the road turns south. Follow it south until you cross into the barrens. Directly ahead on the right is a gate, go left instead and through the broken fence.
Follow the road south until it turns left. There should be a mountain in front of you. Run straight at it and up it. It looks steep but you CAN climb it. The mage is at the top, on the back right hand side.

As for killing him. I'm a level 24 druid (feral specced) and I went along with a level 24 warrior. It was EASY. If you hit him hard and fast and ignore the minions they dont have time to heal him (plus they are only level 19 most, so really easy).

My warrior friend did almost nothing. I used my cat form to lay into him with some high DPS and damage over time. When he tried to run (which he WILL - a lot) I transformed back into caster and hit him repeatedly with moonfire. Down he went.

Got 2550 exp for it. Item may be crap, but thats not a bad amount of exp.

Hope this helps. Remember just hit him as hard and fast as you can.

2550 xp at level 28, easy solo as Sarilus Foulborne is level 25. BTW, the quest reward (Light of Elune) is a single potion, so be sure to save it for when you're in a pinch.

When you arrive at the peak, stay to the edge and take out the Bruisers and Acolytes before you take on Foulborne when he starts to run around, they'll be a pain.

As a Paladin, I suggest throwing down Consecration and keeping your melee strikes focused on Sarilus even 64 damage is enough to take out his Level 1 Elemental servants.

The descriptions above were great.&nbsp TY all!&nbsp On my way down, after completing the quest, I found a better route to the top that bypasses the irritating 10-11 lvl acolytes.&nbsp Take the Gold Road south to the road marker pyre at 49.14, turn right and go up the finger ridge right there.&nbsp It will take you to the top.&nbsp There is a small flat spot before the peak, just bear right scrambling upwards and you'll reach the top mere yards from Sarilus Foulborne.

I did this quest complete with a lvl 26 Draenei hunter and a lvl 25 cat pet.

For folks without coordinates that marker pyre is the fourth one south of the broken wall and the second on the left.

Its a good thing you people are'nt 911 dispatchers with the directions you give.

Here is how to find the Peak:

Take the eastern road from Astranaar and take the southern path that takes you into the barrens. You will come across the huge gate that is blocked by guards. Follow the gate along the left untill you get to the smashed portion of the gate that you can easily pass through. This will put you on Gold Road. Follow the road south and continue on. There will be mountians to your left and right which is what confuses everyone at first, ignore these mountians and continue south. You will see a HUGE mountian appear in the background directly in front of you. Just continue south and you will run into a ridge that you can run right up the side of. Keep going up... you will pass some striders and some camps. Ignore the people at the camps if you can and keep following the ridge up, the ridge will zig zag as you get higher. Pass more minions untill you get to the very top, you will see your target crouched over near a small hut. Have at it!

I beat him alone with my lvl 24 Druid. I used cat form and Prowl to sneak up behind him. I then used Shred to give him a whallop and get things started. I then kept following him around in cat form and used Claw each time I got to him. He summoned some elementals but I completely ignored them and concentrated on him. I changed to normal form once to heal. I killed one elemental that got in my way, they die with one hit! I just kept following him and whacking him till he died. The minions scattered about did not attack me. I did use an armor scroll so I would suggest the same.

hope that helps!

Solo'd this as a 22 Demo Lock. This was not an easy fight - as it wouldn't be seeing as how he's level 25. It is doable though.

Located him at the very peak of the mountain, about where you'll see a green dot/pool on the map. Or if you're using a coord mod, 48,19 as onegirlarmy pointed out.

As Childermass stated before - this guys runs around *alot* ... and if you can't trap him or slow him down, he's bound to run into alot of the other mobs. It's a good idea to clear the top of the platform of Acolytes/etc where he is first, and than the ones right below him (or vise versa).

Another thing, he summons water minions. They're only level one, but he can summon up to 3-4 of them. Also, I may be wrong about this, but I *think* if you don't kill them quick enough - they heal him. Couldn't scroll up far enough in the combat log after to check this.

Was able to do this using a Voidwalker as the tank. Just have him chase him around. Dot up Sarilus as much as possible in the beginning (Curses, Corruption, Immolate, etc...). Have to wand the Water Elementals and cast shadowbolts, searing pain, etc... whenever you can.
It requires alot of multitasking (but as a lock you should be use to that by now), but it is possible - at 9% HP, I just shadowbolted him down.

2550 xp @ level 22, 350 Rep with Darnassus

Goodluck. :)

start climb mountain rib at 48,13
and after go to 48,18;instead of run into and spend time cleaning mods, you walk around under the peak, stop at 48,19

now you must be behind Sarilus Foulborne and very close to him.

then locate him by TAB key. When you aim at him, fire and turn back to run but not too far ,make sure he run after you.
Then you can solo him without cleaning any mobs on the peak.

I'm a lvl 25 Priest, holy spec.

I was really stressed before the fight having read how hard it was going to be. I Shielded and he resisted my starter - Holy Fire. Thought I was toast, but those pittiful minions are lvl 1 and none of them ever got through my shield. Never lost a hp! I just pumped spells on the guy until he died at long distance. He didn't even move. After that the minions died from one hit each.

Not even a sweat. Considering I have almost only spirit gear this would have been even easier with shadowbuild and int gear.

The minions did heal the poor guy a tiny bit - like 15hp or something per heal. It's nothing more than pittiful.

Plus, finding the place was easy as well. Go to Barrens, take left through the fence at the Barren boarder instead of charging in on the ? guards. Just continue in a straight line to the mountain and up the ridge to the top of the mountain and kill.

Easy, but quite fun.

You'll find yourself right in front of the guy, take his head of in 5 sec, and you are done.

Another way to get to Ratchet: Go to the gate as described above and try to walk as far in as you can. Horde-guys will follow and kill you but you will find yourself in a graveyard in The Barrens! Revive, and from there it's an easy walk to Ratchet, just keep running south-east. You will encounter only lvl 11 or 12 animals, no problem! Once there don't forget to pay the flightmaster a visit.

Solo'd as a 24 Druid, took about 10 points of damage before he died.

To make things easier, kill all his level 10-11 minions around the summit, and then take him on, although I doubt that's even necessary. Once you get that done, he can run around all he wants.

The level 1 elementals hit me twice before dying from Thorns damage.

When your position is sorta south of the road, look up the mountain and you'll see some torches meaning there's a road up the mountain.

Being Alliance on a PvP server, and this was my first time to Barrens , I stayed away from the main road. Of course that caused me to miss Dreadmist and yes, I did end up going to the Crossroads hehe.

I was in the same boat as alot of you. His location is on the Gold road coming into the barrens from ashenvale. You follow the road and do not go off the road. Once the road opens up to a vast plains and starts heading to the left, stop! Look to your right and you will see a ridge finger that runs up the edge of the mountains. Follow the finger up, it is scalable. once you get to the top, there is an encampment with lvl 11-12 acolytes, and then the mage is in the middle. Wipe off the acolytes and then target the mage himself. Only target the mage and no one else and he will die quickly. Solo'd as a 29 Druid.

It took me some time to find the peak in the first place but made it along just fine. After you get in to the Barrens, its the mountain with the lvl 11ish Burning Blade Bruisers at the base. The camp looks like a black spot on the mini map. Take the left leg (facing south) of the mountain--its the longer one to the left of the camp.

I died on the first try, but only after I killed him because I took a nose dive off the side of the peak.
