The Den

Travel to the Den on Stonetalon Peak. Using the Gatekeeper's Key, obtain the druids' hidden items. Use these items to open the Talon Den Hoard.
Sleepers' Key
Claw Key
Barrow Key

Description

The druids built the Talon Den on Stonetalon Peak, where they keep many powerful items.

They devised a complex scheme to keep them from falling into the wrong hands.

Luckily, I managed to... extract some details from one of them.

Hidden in a small lantern at the entrance of the Den, you will find the Gatekeeper's Key--with it you will be able to open caches around the Den. The items from these caches will allow you to open their hoard, located in one of the central areas.

The first key is in the first room you cross once it opens up on the middle section where you get a fast respawning named (the Keymaster) it looks like a light source so its easy not to notice it.

The second key is deeper in on the upper level, slightly to the side of a bridge at a section where two bridges are right next to each other.

The sleepers key is guarded by 3 mobs (including a named drake when I was there) in a little sub room in the deepest part of the den.

The horde is a stone, its in the middle of the three rooms that stick out north on larger rooms in the deeper part of the map.

Very difficult. Died 3 times and it's a long walk from the graveyard.

Gatekeeper's key is outside in a lamp: 29,15
Claw key is across first bridge: 29,15
Barrow key is in the room with two bridges: 27,13
Sleeper key is in the far north west corner: 25,11
Hoard / turn in is in the north middle around 27,11

Don't forget to pick up the Gatekeeper's Key in the lantern outside the entrance to Talon Den. You need it to get the other keys inside.

If you're doing this quest, you might as well pick up Horde Presence (https://classicdb.ch/?quest=3514) by killing the Alliance Outriders in the Barrens as well. You'll complete it on the way in.

Ok, I did this as a 28 shammy with the help of a 31 warrior. Was touch and go at times but we managed without dieing once =)

The gate key thing is outside the entrance, before you even go in. Right at the entrance door, the left lantern, thats where the key is.

Follow the path down until you go over a bridge, the first thing you need to get is there. its VERY easy to miss as it looks like a sort of light thing.
Dont go down, carry on over the bridge, then left at the next set of bridges. The next key is JUST as you come off that bridge.
cant remember how to get to teh last key, but it is guarded by a lvl 30 and two lvl 28's, the 30 is a dragonkin and hits for stupid amounts of dmg, go very careful.

For those with a co-ord thing, they are roughly:
Claw key: 29,15
Barrow key: 27,13
Sleeper key: 25,11

Ok, a few posts up someone posted a picture of where the hand in is, full props to him, this is his work not mine:
http://medic.dediweb.com/stuff/wow/theden.jpg
Its in the room on the left hand side, big rock thing.

You get a leather chest piece doing mainly agility, a ring doing 2 int and 4 spirit and some mail pants doing 10 str. yep, ALL THREE along with about 2,500 xp =)

Any one saying they solod under lvl 30 is either twinked to teh max, very good or VERY lucky. i would suggest a group of two 30's shouldbe ok, as long as one heals (woot for shammy ^-^)

Oh, and the entrance is around 29,15. just to the left of the ally town, took me a while to find it =)

Happy Questing!

This quest is easily soloable at mid/low 30's unless the little dragon guy is up in the back room (level 30 elite packs a pretty nasty punch)

All of the keys are located in the little fountain's located throughout this small "dungeon". You have to get the key just outside the entrance to the dungeon in that fountain first. Its very straight foward -

Key One - Go down the path into the first circluar room, the first key is on that ledge where the 2 bears are together (right behind the level 29 mega easy elite)

Key Two - Follow the path straight through you will see the fountain to your left, you have to go over a bridge to get to it.

Key Three - Keep following down through the tunnel past where you got the second key, the path will split, you want to continue going straight, go over the bridge. You'll see a room straight ahead (a little to the left) of the bridge. This room sometimes has the "dragon" in it, in which case you'll get him and the other 2 guys, I wasn't ever able to get just him. The key is in the fountain there.

Where you use the Keys - Turn around from the last key and head to the right where the path winds down, when you see a path that you can go up that is behind you go up it, (if your fighting a fair number of dryads your in the right spot). Go up into the little room that looks like the room the third key was in, you'll see a rock to the left that will say the horde or something like that. Click that and your finished.

You get all three rewards, I didn't write them down, they were crap at 35, A caster ring, I think some pants and something else. Ends up selling for close to a gold if you sell it all so it was worth it in my opinion (when you factor in all the other drops as well)

There is also another quest for the Talon Den where you have to kill "the leader of the Talon Den", Rynthariel the Keymaster.

Quest giver: Kadrak 48,05
Location: Barrens, Mor'Shan Rampart (Border of Ashenvalle and Barrens).
Quest title: "Horde Presence".
Link: https://classicdb.ch/quest=3514

You get given Kadrak's Flagwhich you have to place in the Den. I have had this flag before and had no idea where "Talon Den" was. I dropped the quest and flag, and was able to pick them both up again much later after i had found the Den.
"Rynthariel" is the 5th mob you encounter inside, and you place the flag by right-clicking it inside your backpack and then left-clicking on the screen. I just placed it where i killed her (just before a bridge).

---------------------------------------------------

Prerequisite: Before you can do "Horde Presence" you must complete:
"The Runed Scroll" which is a Barrens associated quest.
You need to kill the four level 25 elite Alliance Outrunners in southern barrens to get this quest. They drop a scroll which initiates the prerequisite quest "The Runed Scroll".

Quest item / giver: Runed Scroll
Location: "near Camp Taurajo".

For not rogue (or cat druid) soloers like the 32 warior, thats impossible. even as rogue i had a lot of difficulties (lvl33) because of the lvl 30 dragon that shoots 440dmg lightning stuff. there are 2 lvl 28 with him, and all are elite. dont tell me you can take on a 30, a 28 and another 28 elite with a non-twinked 32 warior, thats just not possible with the lightning. and for those who said they pulled 1 at a time, some places its impossible. as a rogue i could sap so it was ok, but you should be at least lvl 35 if you try to solo this.

As an answer to the "Easy" post 2 post above this one, at least dont pretend u had no difficulties passing thu with a 29 and a 27, thats impossible. And dominating a place full of elites of ur lvl that aggro in pack, thats a lie.

If You read the above posts with the pictures you should be able to complete this.

Here is the Down and dirty on how:

The first key you need is right at the entrance in the lamp to the left.

Go straight in using Track Humanoids.&nbsp Make sure you spot patrols&nbsp before moving in.

Pick your fights so you are only killing one at a time.&nbsp This may require frost trap to pull them back from the path in.

As you go down you will come to a room with a chamber&nbsp in the center you will see a little fire holder (looks like a bird bath) as you mouse over you will see the gear tool tip.&nbsp This is the first key.

Go straight across (not down) to the second chamber with bridges and take the bridge to the left that cuts back a little you will see the second fire holder.

Continue straight down the corridor to the next bridge.&nbsp At the bottom of that bridge you will see a chamber straight in front with 3 mobs (1 is 30+).&nbsp The third key is inside.&nbsp At this point send cast aspect of the cheetah send in pet run in and grab key.&nbsp Now if you wasted no time you can run back the way you fought in and make it to a point where&nbsp you will lose aggro.&nbsp Placing the pet on passive as you run&nbsp out may save you pet (mine didn't make it).

Once you have the final key you head back towards&nbsp where you got the third key fight your way down and left and you will eventually reach a chamber with the horde stone. Hearth Stone.

While t is possible to solo&nbsp I recommend a group to make it go faster.&nbsp But if you are up to the challenge it can be done.

Remember to apply liberal use of Scorpid Sting and Rapid Fire. Take a stack of Juice to replenish mana.

As of 2.3, this quest is not specified as a group quest anymore. The normal mobs have been changed to non-elite. It can, however, be still challenging to do this quest alone. There is a weak elite mob guarding the first bridge (Rynthariel the Keymaster, http://classicdb.ch/?npc=8518). There is also a high chance that a rare elite mob (Nal'taszar, http://classicdb.ch/?npc=4066) spawns directly next to the last chache. This means there are three mobs right next to it: two non elites, and this level 30 elite. His chain lightning hits very hard, so be careful. As a paladin, I died four times at this spot.

I couldn't solo this as a 33 Druid - although I may be able to do it at 34.&nbsp Everything is fine except the last encounter for the Sleeper's Key - you are fighting 3 elites at once.&nbsp I have no idea how someone was able to pull only two of the three - they are packed in a tight little room together.&nbsp I cleared out the whole area outside their room and tried about 4 different ways to pull two of the three - sleeping the dragon, spells, running away, edging up on them - nothing worked.

Save yourself some grief and do it with a friend or skip it - by the time you are able to solo it, the rewards aren't that great anymore.

OMG, I just finished the 2nd part of this chain, dying once in the process, and I'm abandoning the 3rd part.

I'm doing it with a BE mage, mining/jewelcrafting.&nbsp Can't use either of the pieces of armor, and the ring is a freakin' piece of crap that's similar to a ring I made at level 10-15!&nbsp I can't believe they just forgot about updating this chain for the expansion, because the quest-giver is a BE!

Even if I had a rogue, warrior, pally, or priest, all these crap rewards aren't NEARLY worth the effort.&nbsp It's not like they have to be uber-rewards (although it'd be nice considering it's an elite quest), but at least make them on-par with rewards from other quests around level 30!

I don't get it, is Blizzard even paying attention to this crap any more?

I did this one solo about two lvl's ago because now, i am a lvl 36 warlock.&nbsp If you attempt this alone as a lock, make sure ur soul pouch is full because you will for sure need ur shards and also that u are high enough lvl to bring down lvl 27-29 elites.&nbsp Being a 34, the creatures here were too low lvl to create shards from.&nbsp Went into den with 20 shards, came out with two.&nbsp I only died once, but luckily i had soul stone resurrection to overcome the death.&nbsp U can use whatever strategy ud like here.&nbsp Personally, i took on single enemies with succubus, and in areas with multiples (meaning 2-3), i pulled out my voidwalker to do the tanking.&nbsp single enemy wise, i used succubus cuz if the mob ran and aggroed another, i could seduce the additional aggro and kill them later.&nbsp vw made a good tank and could take dmg well from mobs when there were two present...mainly around the key areas and the stash of goodies at the end where there are three enemies (this was probably hardest part of whole quest).&nbsp again, u can do this quest to ur own liking, this just worked for me...&nbsp enemies respawn fairly quick in here so be sure to keep a good pace of killing, eating, drinking, etc...dont diddle around for too long.&nbsp bring lots of potions, food, drink, shards, bandages and keep ur healthstones and soul stones handy.&nbsp good luck!

This quest was surprisingly possible for myself and my travelling partner.&nbsp I am a 29 fury warrior and she is a 29 resto shaman.&nbsp I can honestly say there is no trick to this quest, other than knowing where you are going and knowing how to use your character.&nbsp I found a few tips that really made the trip much more tolerable.

1) Bring a reliable healer.&nbsp Mana will be tight, especially if you only take 2.&nbsp You can't afford to waste mana.

2) Sunder Armor, the more, the better.&nbsp Sundering will keep your healer safe, and when an elite is down 900 armor, they die a little easier.&nbsp :P

3) Shield bash the dragon in the sleeper's room to stop his lightning attack (you'll save yourself about 1/2 your health at level 29).&nbsp If you have to wipe here, make sure to take out the dragon.&nbsp He won't repop if you run right back.

4) We took down 3 suckers at once (it was REALLY close), so don't be afraid of 'em.&nbsp Just watch your pulls and happy hunting!&nbsp

On a quick side note, the centaurs (or whatever the hell they are) will auto-rush if you pull them the females are a little trickier because you need to get into melee range and back up.&nbsp I've never seen a druid rush, save to go cat and attack the healer.

Hope this helped!

SKIP THIS QUEST!

It's ridiculously overpowered for the level it's given, and the rewards given do not outweigh the risk of dying.&nbsp Granted it's just death, but running back across essentially the entire zone to get here is a waste of time and irritating.&nbsp

I'm a 30 Imp. Sap Rogue, and I've had a hell of a time doing it.&nbsp These guys are particularly tough mobs, they just have a ton of HP for their level, close to 2k.&nbsp So killing them ins't hard, it's killing them before your sap/poly/ice trap or whatever wears off and you've got two.

Like I said, this quest is simply not worth it.

I will not divulge the locations of the keys, since they've already been outlined in several other posts. Mostly, I'm going to post my strategy:

At lv32, the aggro range is fairly small inside the den on the lv24-lv28 creatures. The lv30s pose a bit of a challenge, but you'll only see one or two of them (mainly the dragon at the Sleeper Key location). This makes it easy to single out your targets in one-on-one combat.

I am a Ret pally, but this combination should work for any build. I would rush in and judge Crusader. If it was a melee mob (the Keepers), I would generally try to drag them from their spawn point by simply running. If they were a ranged mob (the Dryads) I would take 4 paces to be just outside their melee range but not quite into their thrown weapon range in order to pull them a few feet at a time. Spellcasters (the Druids in Elf form) can be pulled either with Arcane Torrent or using Divine Protection as you run away. Their spells will do no damage to your bubble, and so they will chase you to melee.

Once the mob is in place, use Seal of Righteousness (I was using 1h and Shield for the extra AC--survivability) and judge/refresh at will. Make sure that once they are below 50%, however, that you do not judge Righteousness. You need to be able to have Seal of Justice handy for when they reach about 20%. When they get that low, or if they run early, judge Justice and they will either come back to you or stay where they are at. Finish the job.

In the case of the Sleeper Key and the dragon... I killed one of the Keepers with him first. It took a potion, my bubble, my Hammer of Justice, and a fair bit of judgement-switching to pull it off without dying before I could get him, but it worked without terrible difficulty. I ran back to my corpse. By this time, my bubble/pots were recharged and I was ready to take the dragon. I resurrected outside the Sleeper Key alcove and healed/drank to get ready. I then rushed in and used the same tactics for the dragon, only trying to silence him more often than the Keepers (Chain Bolt = hurt!). Once he was down, the Keeper was easy to outlive, even without any mana. I didn't have to use Lay on Hands, so keep that in mind if you think you might be able to take all 3 of them in one shot. With Spiritual Attunement, my LoH gives me back about 250 mana (almost enough for a Holy Light).

As for the 3 Dryads at the Hoard... you can pull 2 of them without the 3rd. Burn them both down. I used LOS by ducking around the corner to pull them to me (and judged Crusader for the pull, since it reaches farther than my aggro range in there), but the bubble tactic would work here as well... you could even use Blessing of Protection instead of Divine Protection, since they do not deal any spell-related damage. After those 2 are down, the 3rd is a snap and the Hoard is yours.

Hope this helps.

I did this solo at lvl 32 w/ my shammy, pretty easy, just kill everything on the way in and take 'em one at a time, if they run nail 'em w/ frost or whatever suits your fancy.&nbsp Even getting tag teamed by two is not a problem so you're fine.

When you get to the last key, here's a trick i did since fighting a LvL 30 along w/ a pair of 27 elites isn't easy for a lvl 32: First i cleared the area of enemies including the patrols, i gave myself a wide berth.&nbsp Then I ran up and aggro'd the 3 of them and proceeded to run down the hill a little, once there, i dropped a stoneclaw totem and the plan was to let the 3 of them get stuck w/ that for a sec, then drop and earthbind totem as i ran back to get the last key which woulda been followed by me running after grabbing it.

I tried it 3 times and got the timing down that it woulda worked on the 3rd try, but instead, in my effort to place the stoneclaw totem *just* far enough away that i could still make it back to the key while they were slowed by the earthbind?&nbsp Instead the stoneclaw only taunted the lil' dragon feller and the other two guards ran off so I then killed the creature before going back to finish off the other two. Either way would work, just be sure you got a lot of room to work w/ and you're set.

I soloed as a lvl 31 frost mage and it was pretty easy.

All you have to do is follow Cyane's instructions and you're good to go.

As a frost mage, when you get to the turn in Hoard, there's 3 dryads surrounding the Hoard. So, what I did was first frost nova, then sheep one so that two would be there. Then I just kinda went down further from them so they wouldn't be able to throw their spears, but still able to do frostbolt. It's pretty much easier that way. Remember to use mana agate, its your friend!

But I was kind of in dire need of health pots and mana pots at that point, so I would say it would be wise to bring some.
