Highperch Venom Sac (10)

Description

As you may know, wyverns are often tamed by orcs for use as mounts. But what is less known is that the venom of a wyvern, in some circles, is more valuable than the beast itself. So if you're not afraid to do a little wyvern hunting, then... I have a job for you.

There is a place called Highperch in the land of a Thousand Needles, west of here. The Highperch wyverns have a potent venom. Potent, and valuable.

  • You get this quest in Theramore.
  • What you got to do is head north on the road and simply follow it until you get to The Barrens.
  • In The Barrens you head south until you get to The Great Lift.
  • In front of the lift there are two horde guards, lvl 25 and 30.
  • Step into the his to get down from the mountain (wiiie) you have now landed in Thousand Needles.
  • Now go cross across Thousand Needles and up the hill to Highperch.
  • You will find some Highperch beasts there who will drop the Venom Sac's you need.
  • Coordinates(Thousand Needles): 11,35.
  • The beasts are at lvl 28-30
  • This is my drop rates after finnishing the quest:
    Highperch Wyvern&nbsp 44%
    Highperch Consort&nbsp 30%
  • I didn't meet any horde at all.
  • The Highperch's doens't drop any good items except the Venom Sac
  • It took me about 20min to get the Venom Sac's, not included the travel time.
  • The Highperche's are melee, but they cast Poison.
  • It surely takes time to complete the whole quest, not fun at all.
  • Some nice xp as always though :)

The wyverns are kind of in their own area, on the west side of the zone. Hug the south wall headed west and look for a gap in it. The gap is up in the wall a ways, so can be easy to miss if you aren't looking for it.

Head through the gap, and you are in a region with the wyverns and nothing else. It's pretty easy to see how they move, so you can handily avoid adds. Mobs were level 28 and 29. Drop rate wasn't great.

This quest's directions are pretty bad.

Highpearches have their own subzone in northwestern Thousand Needles.&nbsp If you look on your map it's the obvious protrusion area off the west edge of the zone.

Beware- Horde has a similar quest here and you are almost certain to encounter lvl 30ish PVP.

Make sure you go all the way in, up to the back then climb the ramp to the very top part.

There is a rare beast plus a great chest with gold bar and lots of goodies at the base of the pillar.

I just kept clearing the area out. Every time I cleared it I ran back to the top of the ramp then turned and ran back in. Every time but for once there was at least one respawn when I got back in.

Mind you, the drop rate still sucked, but I did get the chest twice while there.

There is a horde guy (quest giver I guess) who just stands there. Leave him alone he gives no xp and doesnt drop a thing.

You will find the entrance to the plateu at 14, 33 in Thousand Needles. Just run up the ramp there and you will find the Highperch's.

It's SW in Thousand Needles, not NW! Also, spend 1h trying to find it just because it's on high lands. You'll see on the map a gut shaped area, you'll have to climb a path to that place.
After geting the venom sacks you can return to Theramore flying from a nearby elf camp. It's at the western border with Feralas.

not bad exp if you can just suck it up and run down there during off hours -- im a 32 hunter, got about a bubbles of exp so far and a bunch of skinning points if your a skinner, id say just run it, at least you can sell the biz afterwards

ok for those without co'ords if u have FP to thalanaar go southwest hugging the wall till u see a tauren totem pole keep hugging mountain and look up as u go u will see path...if u come from the lift go as straight across as u can to get to other side (avoiding or fightinh anything in ur path stuff) once u hit wall go a little north grab FP then follow previous directions.&nbsp Drop rate was about 50/50 but if u r skinner woot, if not just enjoy the xtra xp

Pretty easy. If you can fly to Thalanaar, just hug the cliff as you run to the cords, I didn't fight one thing that way until I got there.&nbsp My drop rate was about 15% when I finished but they are easy kills with some good XP and the spawn time isn't too shabby&nbsp for how many of them there are.

I also found a solid chest that respawned pretty quickly with gold bars, plus a mithril vein if you are a miner. Blizz must have improved the drop rate as it only took me about 20 min to get them all.

The drop rate for me was great! First nine dropped easy hasd to kill 5 to get last one but thats like any other quest in the game.
little disappointed that it didnt lead to a chain quest cause the item was lame.Just be sure when you come off the great lift from the barrens to get the journal laying on the ground nearby. This quest item get turned in at feralas which is north of highperch and there is a flight path in feralas where that quest gets turned in so its not a total loss

With all the time it takes to get to Thousand Needles, and the low drop rate, as well as nothing much else to check out in Thousand Needles for Alliance, this is probably the biggest waste of time for a quest there is.&nbsp

Do yourself a favor and just pass on this quest.&nbsp There's not enough XP in it to justify the time.

...the first time I did this quest, the drop rate was horrible. Tonight, I discovered Highperch (where the wyverns are) at exactly 11pm, and collected my last venom sac at 11:12 pm. Not bad at all. Of course, this was as a 32 warlock, so I had virtually no downtime between kills, but the drop rate was very good for me: approximately 15 kills, and one of the drops was from a patriarch, so they do drop them also.

I'm assuming it's a given that you're going to get targeted by Horde when you go here? Is there a quest here for Horde players too or something?
I attempted this as a lvl 30 Hunter, which should've been easy, but I kept getting targeted by Horde the minute I came into the vicinity. I'm going to have to bring a party with me to do this one, I'm thinkin...
Any suggestions?

Drop rate is like, 1 in 8 wyverns. :P Griffin eyes drop almost every time :P It may be that only the Highperch Wyverns drop them, no HighPerch Patriarchs or Consorts etc.

As you enter the area if you turn to the left, the pod against the wall has a trail going up to another area with more griffons and a named griffon, as well as a tauren for a Horde quest.

This is a good area for iron and sometimes a mithril sighting.

Was sorta hard to find.
Heres cosmos 12.34,12.34 once you locate the totem you need to climb the winding path way to the top of the mesa its at the mesa top.
There you will find a new world of these things flying around gracfully.
They're an easy pull one at a time.
They are agressive if you get to close to them.
Watch for the hyena packs on the way there. And there are plenty of lvl 27-28 cougar on the way as well once you leave the great lift.
Happy Hunting

This was easy. If you have previously done the quest " Reclaiming the Charred Vale" then you should have the flight path to the moonwell on the border of Feralas and Thousand Needles. Just fly there and follow the border (rock wall) Southeast. At the first totem you reach you will find the path leading up to Highperch. I found the drop to be about 30%, but I then found another path marked by a totem in the eastern section of Highperch that leads up to another section with one level 30 Tauren. I found a 100% drop rate up there. I killed the Tauren just for fun, he resisted many of my spells, but did hardly any damage to me as he only hit me with his staff.

If you don't already have the flight path mentioned above, I suggest getting it while your there. To find it from the Great Lift, just follow the road west toward Feralas, at the border (lush green woods) turn south and it's right there.

As for being targeted by the horde, they shouldn't be able to kill you unless you are playing on a Pvp server or you had previously entered a Horde encampment to flag yourself as pvp.

Doesn't this sound remarkably strange; the first quest in a very popular leveling guide has had the NPC moved? I also heard that the NPC has been moved to Auberdine as well though I am not going to bother. With the new leveling speed I am going to skip the guide's 30-31 grind. Dismiss this quest and go straight on to the Mirage Raceway imo.

no faction adjustment
