Frostmaw

Bring Frostmaw's Mane to Melor Stonehoof in Thunder Bluff.
Frostmaw's Mane
Provided Item:
Kodo Skin Scroll

Description

<name>, it is now time for you to travel to far-off lands. You are ready.

You now hunt Frostmaw, a yeti in the Alterac Mountains. He is elusive, his white coat blending into the snows of his mountain home. He rarely shows himself.

But I will show you how to entice a creature such as he. Here, take this scroll. On it I have written how Frostmaw may be lured.

Now go, <name>. Your journey is long and many challenges lay waiting. When you return with Frostmaw's mane, only then is your task complete.

This should combine all the previous comments into one meta-tip:
You get this quest from Melor Stonehoof in TB after completing [30] Steelsnap.

1- Head to Tarren Mill and make sure to pick up [33] Helcular's Revenge, http://classicdb.ch/?quest=553, which takes you to the cave at Darrow Hill in Hillsbrad Foothills.

2- Head north towards the Alterac Mountains, in between The Headland and Corrahn's Dagger. Careful for the Alliance entrance to AV, as the guards will Kill on Sight.

3- Continue north, where you should look for the Growless Cave. Kill mountain lions until you loot a [Fresh Carcass], then proceed to the Flame of Uzel, (37, 66).

4- Clear the nearby Yetis in and around the cave, click the flames so you get credit for your other quest, then place the carcass on the Flame of Uzel.

**Frostmaw will spawn outside the cave and after a few moments begin wandering in at a slow pace.

**He has 1535 HP and does approximately 135 DPS.

You should have a scroll of Kobo skin in your bag, this will tell you how to call Frostmaw.

First you must kill a lion in the area, and get the carcass.

He is to the northwest of Tarren mill, you are in the correct area if there are lots of white yetis. There will be a cave, go into the cave and clear it. Then place the carcass of the lion on the fire in the cave. That will call Frostmaw.

Despite what the Kodo Skin Scroll says, the lion you kill for the carcass doesn't have to be a Hulking Mountain Lion. The regular Mountain Lions just south of the cave will do.

Easily soloed as lvl 35 holy priest.

Follow the road going north of Tarren Mill till you hit Altarac Mountains, then go west and then south when you get to the yetis. The cave is southwest from there.

Around 38'68 in Altarac Mountains if you use coords.

Place the fresh carass (can be obtained by a lion in Hillsbrad) and wait for Frostmaw to come.

When I read the scroll for the quest it said that you need the carcass off of a hulking mountain lion however, my wife and I did this quest tonight and we found that you can get the carcass off of a regular mountain lion. So make it easier on yourself and just kill the mountain lions.

Frostmaw was easily solo'd by a 33 rogue. What I did was killed the first one in the cave. Rest to full health sap one of the two Yeti's inside. Then I killed the unsap'd one. Vanish'd came back and killed the second one. Frostmaw seem to do little to no damage to me. I sealthed as he entered the cave and Cheap shot'd him. Then I SS'd him till I had 5 Combo points. Then Kidney shot and he was done after that.

Andruski, my only warning is silence.

I'm an over-preparer, so lvl35 hunter with same pet I set up traps, etc. Frostmaw is actually pretty easy, but he doesn't show up AT the fire - he comes to the mount of the cave. I expected him to appear, and was going to trap him inside the cave and fight from outside. He shows up outside, so plan that way.

Solo'd this as a 33 hunter. Its easy to clear out the Yetis, then rest up and wait. I suggest rapid fire and hunter's mark to make it easier. And Inozamal is right, the carcass can drop of regular mountain lions (got one on my first lion).

solod at lvl 35 mage. kinda easy so i probably could have done it sooner. but yeah just kill the 3 yetis by the cave and they should respawn for atleast 3 mins so you should have plenty of time to kill frostmaw.

Tried to solo this and couldn't do it because he resisted most of what I threw at him. I got him down pretty far, but if you're a mage I'd train 34 before attempting. Not very fun when almost everything in your bag of tricks gets resisted.

I'm level 32 and I did him solo (w/ my level 30 pet).

After clearing the cave...

1.I set my pet on Stay the entrance, set him to Aggressive.
2.Put a frost trap behind pet to slow Frostmaw's approach.
3.I waited by the fire and set the carcass on, I have Aspect of Hawk on.
4.When yeti appears, Hunter's mark, pet attack, Rapid Fire, blah, blah.
5.He's down to half life and them comes at me, frost trap makes him slow.
6.Shoot him a bunch more times, he gets to me with about 1/3 life left.
7.Drop an ImmolationTrap, Aspect of Monkey, and hit Deterrance.
8.Trap goes off, smack him around a bit, Counterattacks, etc. and he's dead.

Easy peasy. He hits hard as a truck though. Almost had to use a potion, lol.
Survival spec hunter for the win.

Solo'd as level 31 hunter... Not hard at all. Just be careful, 'cause the mountain yeti's will pick you up pretty far away. Easy to aggro more than you can handle.

There's another quest in the same caves you can pick up from a guy in the graveyard in Tarren Mill. Well worth doing, as it's ending is a pretty hilarious attack on Southshore.

P.S. Didn't die once.

If you're in Hillsbrad, prz don't go through the lake like the previous poster said. xD

In case you don't know where the cave is, it's in the southwestern area of the snowy bits of the Alterac Mountains.

Frostmaw isn't too difficult, the Yetis are super easy (and fun to skin are they the only humanoids you're allowed to skin?) and I didn't die once during this quest. 32 Hunter, solo'd. The headdress is cool.

32 Pally. The main trick with a pally is to not use your seals or anything or I would've died. Devotion Aura + Blessing of Wisdom. Just grind against him, then when your at 500 below max health, holy light, keep repeating, by the time you use holy light again your mana should be maxed out and you always have lay on hands as an absolute last emergency.

To reach the cave with the flame of uzel you can simply go north from tarrens mill (the path to the left of TM) until you reach Alterac Mountains. Turn left and leave the human enemies (syndicate) behind you. Then you should see some PVP NPCs (alliance). Turn right and follow the path until you come to the snowy part of Alterac. Now you should see the cave with the 3 Yetis and the flame of uzel. Good luck!

Yeti are realy easy and I pulled 2 with no probs. Clean up cave from 3 Yeti and clean some outside. Then put meat in blazer. "boss" will come soon. he is 37 but realy easy. only in case he resist pet's Growl i use FD.

P.S. Died 3 times. 2 from realy big aagro from whole Stranbard and 3rd due alot of ogre pulling.

Solo Taruen Warrior at level 33. This was very tough, but not impossible to repeat.

1. Kill yeti in cave mouth.
2. Charge in and kill both yeti by the fire. This took me a greating healing potion. Make sure to save retalliation for Frostmaw.
3. Put the carcass on the fire.
4.When Frostmaw appears in the cave mouth, charge him to build up more rage.
5. Retaliation!
6. Sunder armor, sunder armor, rend.. etc.
7. Another greater healing portion.

I had about 120 HP at the end of this battle, and just barely managed to get out of there alive before the other yeti's rezzed behind me. 4250XP
